WoW Insider's Weekly Webcomic: Safe Passage

We have now been introduced to two of the major characters, Ash'gor the orc veteran, and Mig'ai, his Darkspear shaman companion. Again, I politely ask that you just wait and see what develops in the next few weeks. The Alliance aren't all bad, after all.

Not that I didn't like Byron, but this new comic also seems very horde centric....

Well, Ms. Aarons does play mostly Horde, from what I understand. As much as I'd love to see more Alliance from her (I play both factions), I can understand writing a little more about what's nearer to one's heart. :) If I were clever enough to do a WoWish webcomic, I'd likely focus on Alliance. Sadly, I just don't tend to have ideas there.

I'd caution patience. Exposition, especially when it's occurring in one big frame, can take awhile. If the artist says it'll be faction neutral, let's allow the story to gain traction before making that judgment.

She has specifically stated that the comic would be more Neutral than the last.
I also find the line "The Alliance has also moved in on these lands, taking what they please... nice to see nothing has changed there." quite ironic, especially coming from an orc. In WC 3 you slaughter Centaur and Quilboar for the land you want, stealing it from the races that have lived there for who knows how long. In WoW one of your first quests is to kill the Quilboar for their lands, the Warsong clan is invading Ashenvale for Lumber they WANT, they are pushing into Arathi and Alterac for the same reasons. The HORDE are the ones that TAKE what they want, the Alliance just takes it back, it was never yours in the first place.

Yeah too early to tell where she is going with this. I imagine Horde members would think as expressed in page 2 even if it turned out they were wrong. Won't be until we see how the Alliance are portrayed that we can get a feel for how this is going to run.

You mean the same quilboar who have been fighting the peaceful and noble Tauren for untold centuries? You mean the centaur who nearly drove the Tauren to extinction? You seek to defend them? The quilboar and centaur have been pacified for the good of all ... and while you're throwing stones, take a look in the mirror. Defias Brotherhood, and the wrongs they suffered at the hands of the "noble" Alliance mean anything to you?

That was Onyxia's black dragons disguised as Stormwind nobles who wronged the Stonemasons who later became the Defias.
It was made clear in the comic that Varian Wyrnn wanted to make a compromise between the Stonemasons who were asking too high a price (thanks to Onyxia's spell and black dragons hidden among them) and the nobles who offered too little (thanks to Onyxia's spell and black dragons hidden among them).
While you're throwing stones, you should make sure you're aiming at the right target.

... upon reading a tad more, the whole Defias situation gets rather muddled. Lots of folks did lots of bad things and there probably wasn't enough push by Stormwind to right the wrongs. Then again, that doesn't mean you should go out onto the roads and rob every Tom, Dick, and Harry that wanders by because you feel like a victim.
Oh well, once again WoW lore is much deeper than it appears to be.
But I won't be apologizing for slaughtering those quilboar. They have the fire tar I need for my totem!

@ natsumi: if you want to get technichal it was ALL troll and quiraji land, then the trolls took it most of it from the quiraji, so it became troll land, then the nelfs took most of it from the trolls and it was nelf land, the legion tried to teke it from the nelfs, so the nelfs blew it up, leaving the only northrend kalimdor and the easter kingdoms.
easter kingdoms was troll land (amani in the north and gurubashi in the south) then the vykrul got cursed and some nelfs refused to stop with arcane practices and were exilled, so the cursed vykrul and exilled nelfs (now caling themselfs humans and high elfs respectivly) took the troll land.
on kalimdor the horde didn't kill centaurs for their land, they killed them so they would back of from slauthering taurens, also the orcs didn't know ashenvale was inhabited, so when they went for vital resources there and were atacked they simply defended themselves (although the nelves thought it was an invasion and most likely were acting in self defense too), ashenvale was a misunderstanding between too trigger happy factions, with the nelfs and cenarion getting the worst part.
although the horde does indeed kill quilboars. it is a 3 way war for territory with the kull tyras expedition the quilboars ad the horde (the horde with a very clear advantage)
the orcs did invade azeroth without provocation ad with hostile intent, our bad.
yes i'm a horde loyalist =P

Please stop using that ridiculous Troll argument...
First of all, not all lands belonged to the Trolls! There were other creatures (many of whom have evolved are are even still there) as well, and we don't know if all the Trolls had all the lands.
Second, the other races emerged from the wreckage, and started living on lands long abandoned by said Trolls. In the same way the Trolls did as well.
Who says their the first? :) There may have been a different race before them, this could for instance be the Murlocs XD Maybe we should give all the lands back to them? :)

Good comic, but the typo in the first dialogue bubble makes me sad D: Anyhoo, huzzah for Horde comics! I like us being portrayed as non-savages. But maybe a little more Alliance love too? After all, one of my favorite moments of WotLK was Bolvar and Saurfang Jr. standing side by side. "Rise up, sons of the Horde! Blood and glory await!" I'd like to think that there are Horde and Alliance members out there who are tired of fighting and just wish everyone would calm down.
