Moments in Life is an odd little movie. A human is lingering around town and trying to find something to do with his time. First, the human encounters a priest who berates him in public. Then he comes across a tauren woman. The man feels compelled to pick a fight with the tauren, who then completely loses her mind and beats him up. The human parks his butt where he can mope, when a night elf woman offers to help out. There's a quick cut, and then we find out they spent the night together.
I don't really know what to make of the video. I think we can definitely see the earmarks of Romire's attempts to improve his skills. There are some places where I wonder if the animation went a little wonky or if there were artistic choices being made, but overall, the animation was pretty smooth. The script just felt choppy to me and a little exaggerated. Not necessarily my favorite piece ever, but I think Moments in Life shows promise for the future. That was... well, terrible. Wasn't very well made, obviously. No voice acting, the storyline was terribly plain and has no base whatsoever (whatsup with mocking a random tauren on the street and a priest telling a random stranger to sod off?), and the ending was quite obvious (seeing how terrible quality this video is in general).
-1/5 slippers from me, he wasn't even giving it a shot. In fact, he might as well just put trollface.jpg in the credits.
I think he was trying to show how a man can be beaten down (in the vid, made smaller with each humiliation) but it didn't make a ton of sense. I dunno. Apparently makin' whoopee with Night Elves makes everything better?
That made the whole thing crap imo. :D The story was kinda cute, but that's like just a noob mistake to make. Things like that are my pet peeves though so yes.
Looked like a cathartic exercise to me. I'm guessing those "moments" match events in Romire's life, with perhaps the ending he wishes he had? Filming one's fantasies is sort of a private experience, and doesn't necessarily suit itself to viewing by others.
One production note, it looked like it was filmed in wide-screen. That has the effect of making everyone look wider than they do on a normal sized screen, and is kind of off-putting. I've seen some other machinimas filmed this way, and in general I'd like to see people avoid doing it.
......So did you run out of videos to review or something? Because this one is just terrible.
I respect that the maker must not have as much experience at making WoW videos, but that doesn't excuse the complete lack of plot, and the really crappy ending. It just didn't make any sense! Plus, more than the animation being jumpy, I was really bothered by how the characters kept changing in size. It was just distracting.
All in all, I think the maker of this film has actually been done a disservice by being showcased on such a popular website such as this one. With Gray making the video sound like it may be something decent, coupled with my own expectations that videos that appear here *should* be decent, this video was a complete let down. And, feeling let down, I don't want to see any more of this maker's work or want to watch anything that Gray recommends.
That human deserved it. Yet another male human with the DBZ hair.
Seriously though, bad video. The pacing was slow as a snail, weird compression on the models, poor animation, bad transitions between scenes, B-rated dialogue or worse, and an unbelievable, nonsensical plot.
What exactly made you say that it shows promise for the future? Previous works from this author were better.
There is no good dialogue here, and it isn't well thought out at all. I question the motivation of that night elf, and submit that as sex does not make everything better. "I have and idea that you may like; follow me" what a powerful line. UNLESS there is some deep symbolism about how religion, relationships and power will beat you down but sex will make it ok, there is no point to this film, and that would be a sorry point, at that.
Half of the vid was shot in standard ratio and then reformatted to wide screen, making the people end up looking fat or squat, and the Night Elf Ears even more pronounced. It had the feel of one of those dating sim games that are out there, walk up to someone, load conversation interface, go back to game. The story was poorly written, the "action" scene with the Tauren was pieced together from model viewer (poorly I might add) and was very lackluster, the cuts in the first conversation scene were noticeable and detracted from the whole. When was the last time you were having a bad day and a random female came up and her solution to your bad day was a pity lay? Never, because women aren't wired that way.
Overall I'd give this vid an F, I've seen worse vids, but not many.

That seemed more like something thrown together to practice with the equipment than a finished product.

You need the bad (or inexperienced) to appreciate the good.

No, no; don't you see? This is brilliant! Let's put it this way:
If the makers of AXE COP (http://axecop.com/index.php/acepisodes/read/episode_1/) and TIM & ERIC (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21UP0frYg-E&feature=channel) were in charge of making GENERAL HOSPITAL (you don't really want a link to that) and they set it in the WORLD OF WARCRAFT...
Well, that either explains the paintings of Lucian Freud or you get this video.

Dear god. Why have I never heard of Axe Cop before. Thank you, Feldring. Thank you.
