Cataclysm Beta: Welcome to New Tinkertown

Resolute in reclaiming their lost capital, Gnomeregan's exiles have begun an assault against the traitorous Mekgineer Thermaplugg. Traveling from their temporary residence in Ironforge, they are led by the esteemed High Tinker Gelbin Mekkatorque, leader of the gnomes, and seek to restore Gnomeregan to its past glory. In World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, new gnome adventurers will get to experience this ongoing struggle to retake their former home firsthand, beginning their journey in the besieged upper levels of the techno-city.
In the wake of Operation: Gnomeregan, survivors of the fallout will make their way to New Tinkertown, the gnomes' foothold outside their captured city. From there they will be called into action by the high tinker himself to help protect reclaimed gnomish land from new and imminent threats. As one of the newest recruits to this cause, your mettle will be put to the test when you face perilous trials like rescuing captured gnomish demolitionists, destroying a tunnel riddled with vicious troggs, and extinguishing toxic sludge that has begun to rise from the irradiated depths of the city.
Your most important mission, however, will be to thwart the plans of Razlo Crushcog, conspirator and ally of Mekgineer Thermaplugg. Before Chill Breeze Valley can be fully resettled, Crushcog must be stopped, and only your efforts can bring that goal to fruition. Gnomish know-how and engineering will be your allies, but your greatest weapons will be your wits and the will to fight the good fight... for Gnomeregan!
In World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, you'll encounter these challenges and more in the gnomes' new starting (levels 1-5) experience. Keep a good head on your shoulders and ingenuity in your pocket, and your contributions will help secure a proper home for your fellow gnomes.
Ready to help the gnomes retake their gnomeland?

sounds intresting anyword on the troll or that vilage that looked like the shire?
Astraeos Sep 22nd 2010 11:33PM
Village that looks like the shire is in the Twilight Highlands, and there are actually a couple of them.
Josin Sep 23rd 2010 8:43AM
I thought those were Wildhammer Dwarf settlements?
Astraeos Sep 23rd 2010 1:45PM
They are. They're just in the Twilight Highlands.

I'm kind of sad it's only levels 1-5, and then it's back into mixed territory. Would have been nice to go up to level 10, but ah well. I'm just happy to see more gnome in the game.

I'm with you there. Gnome paladins are on my list too. I finally rolled a Gnome (that sounds like a robbed him and left him stranded with no shoes and socks...) but am having a hard time with the warrior class. Hoping the Cata changes will clean some things up. I am not sure on the lore but It would be cool if they had a Gnome champion type who appears in more quest hubs as you progress deeper into the game.

I'm hoping for more phased content in later that would allow for actual retaking of Gnomeregan.
MusedMoose Sep 22nd 2010 11:37PM
Any word on whether the new starting areas are fully phased and/or you have to be of the race to do all the quests? I'd like to get my new mage to the gnomish area first thing, to start building rep with the level 1 quests, but I've not heard if it's possible to do that in Cataclysm like it is today.
Noyou Sep 23rd 2010 8:12AM
Good question. I hope all races can do them. That would save me time and energy from having to RP them :)

I get a little weepy when those poor troggs make that sad noise just before croaking. I do however think the title "High Tinker" is really wimpy sounding. Does that make me a conflicted person??
Claire Sep 23rd 2010 3:15AM
Trogg sympathizers are unwelcome here! BEGONE!
musicchan Sep 22nd 2010 11:53PM
I'm really sad they didn't mention the G-Team in the Gnomer instance itself. The whole A-team farce was really hilarious when I ran through there. hehehe, Commander Hann Ibal.

I wish these quest chains would end in Trolls and Gnomes reclaiming their cities and then they'd have actual capitol cities of their own. I've still got my fingers crossed for a later patch to do just that.
Noyou Sep 23rd 2010 5:35AM
From everything that is transpired and the wording from Blizzard themselves,
"Resolute in reclaiming their lost capital, Gnomeregan's exiles have begun an assault against the traitorous Mekgineer Thermaplugg."
I think it would be damn mean if at some point both Troll and Gnomes didn't get their own cities. It would also be cool if they could make Gnome males look a little "less creepy". Like many toons there is like 1-2 decent models.
Josin Sep 23rd 2010 9:22AM
@noyou It's the eyebrows. They have one facial hair setting that has NO eyebrows. That's creepy as hell. And it's very prevalent, oddly enough. I don't mind a lack of facial hair (though every good male gnome should have at least a porno 'stache, IMO, but a lack of facial hair AND eyebrows?
Creeeeeeepy!
Noyou Sep 23rd 2010 9:47AM
ZOmg I giggled out loud on the porno-stache comment. Actually when you got the pirate costume buff on pirate day the gnome male totally had a porno-stache. And still looked creepy :( Mekkatorque looks kick ass in the poster and even pretty cool if you visit him in Tinkertown.
StClair Sep 23rd 2010 1:21PM
The problem for the Gnomes, at least, is that they'd have to either get rid of the Gnomeregan instance (as in, "No one can ever run this dungeon again, sorry") or move it to the Caverns of Time or something. When MMOs do this sort of thing, even if it's to replace old content with new content, players tend to whine. Lots.
