I love Gnomes, but I'm so dissapointed with the direction they took both the retaking Gnomeregan event and the new starting zone. I mean, we're still at this? It's like Blizzard can't come up with anything else for the Gnomes to do so we're just stucking trying to retake Gnomer and defeat Thermaplugg forever. The Gnomes FAILED their mission in the pre-Cata event. It was just depressing to play through. They don't even succeed in this starting zone! They should have retaken the city in the pre-Cata event and then had a fun, quirky starting zone based all around making new inventions, having them blow up, trying again... just fun and silliness. Looking at the Lost Isles and Azshara as a Gnome lover, I'm very tempted to just play Goblins instead. There has been a massive effort to give them a fun, quirky story with tons of silly inventions, while the Gnomes are literally doing the same thing they have been doing since Vanilla, just closer to the door. /endrant

So, basically what you're saying is QQ, goblins got the cool starting experience that I think that gnomes should have, and now I'm mad at blizzard, and if blizz doesn't do what I want, I'll roll a goblin instead!

No, he's saying it's disheartening as a gnome fan to see the excessive lengths Blizzard has gone through to make awesome feats of engineering and pure awesomeness for the goblins, and know that this sort of thing has been possible for them to implement for years, and they've given NONE of it to gnomes. It would be nice to see gnomish engineering elevated to the level it deserves. If I were new to the game, and making an engineer, clearly I'd take goblin specialization, because gnomes aren't capable of much of anything with their technology, while goblins reshaped an entire zone.

Sadly, I have to agree. The gnome storyline had a very nice development during Wrath (they were machines, not stone people or rock giants but actual super-intelligent robots!) but it just seems as if nothing has trickled down from that. I won't go into spoilers too much with Cata content but regarding gnomes a lot of it is the equivalent of treading water, the addition of their own version of SI:7 is cool but yeah, don't expect too much. I love Blizz for Operation: Gnomeregan but it didn't quite lead to what I would have preferred. Ah well.
