I often wonder that since King Llane had so much faith that the Orcs could be negotioated and had a "good" side to them (witness his "friendship" with Garona which in the end culminated in his assassination) what would've happened if the Orcs had simply attempted to negotiate with them and explain their situation and try and get some land someplace to settle? I think the Alliance might've been willing to listen. Many times they attempted to negotiate with the Orcs only to have their messengers butchered on the spot.
Plus, it's unfortunate that Gul'dan and Blackhand weren't willing to negotiate. Gu'dan was only interested in power for himself and Blackhand was his pawn but if Doomhammer had been Warchief from the start it might've been a different outcome...Or not.
