WoW Mobile Armory gets 3-D model viewer, activity feeds and more

Included in the update is a cool feature called screenshot mode, allowing you to take cool pictures of your characters in front of lots of backdrops, including the racial capital cities. The screenshot mode will even remove all of the interface elements from the phone, giving you a clean shot.
This update could be laying the groundwork for the newly revealed mobile guild chat service available through the armory app, potentially unlocked in the near future for subscribers to Blizzard's Remote Auction House service. Hopefully, more light will be shed on this functionality in the near future. Until then, get updating, because these new features are pretty neat. Previously, I would have had to bookmark the armory's RSS feed for my characters and open them in Safari on the iPhone, but with the new activity feeds built right into the armory app, things have gotten a lot less clunky.

We still need a legit Armory app for Android phones. Blizzard needs to pick up the pace on that one.

True, there is no official one, but at least they have the official AuctionHouse app and the Authenticator. So I imagine armory isn't toooooo long off. In the mean-time, Droid Armory is pretty good (and it has had 3D view for a long time).

Hear hear. I understand Apple's a big market, but Android is already very well-established and has huge potential to become top.
Take the first two comments for this post as a good example!

Yeah, I got the Droid one, my druid is looking worse & worse, from missing hair, to being half naked to recently a being of pure white light, except my shoulder armor & hair...

Yeah where's my androi.... oh wait, I have an iphone like the rest of the world, haha! (sorry, shameless variation of the Family Guy ipod vs. zune bit).
But I will say that on my iPhone 4 the character modeling looks amazing, way better than it does on my computer screen. Bravo Blizz!

Android version pretty please

This needs to be sorted out right quick. There are people paying the fee for the Android Version as well. Where is our money's worth?
Rhornez Sep 22nd 2010 7:03PM
thats what i was wondering android pl0x
Mark Sep 22nd 2010 7:32PM
This has nothing to do with people paying the fee. You don't pay a fee for the app. You pay a fee for the features on the app. Fee paying Apple users are getting nothing more than the fee paying Android users.
Yes the apple app was updated for 3D woooo, its nothing to cancel a $2.99 subscription for. Keep in mind the fee is also for web access to the armory.
Then again, I imagine you Android users will get an update soon enough, so stop the QQ.

Umm, the app will no longer launch after the update...iPod Touch 3G on iOS 4.1.
Jordan V Sep 22nd 2010 5:21PM
Restarting my iPod corrected the issue.

I just got this, and the model viewer is pretty cool, although it crashed for me. The models look great on iPhone 4, better than in-game (although this is just because my settings in game aren't maxed out)! There are lots of different poses/emotes and backdrops. This would be great if you wanted to use your toon as a wallpaper, as the hi-res visuals would make for a great background image. The activity feed is also a nice plus. There have been times where I have had to go to the site to check this instead of just using the app, but now you can just get it on your phone. This would be nice if you wanted to lookup somebody while you were in-game, but didn't want to alt-tab out for some reason.

Unfortunately, I'm having a terrible time getting the models to work on a plain old iPhone 3G. They flash, polys break, my belf has no hair... at best. Most of the time the entire screen flashes with glitchy static and nothing can be seen. XD
It's actually pretty entertaining. I always liked my belf's pretty hair... and now I can see her all bald-like.
robalan Sep 22nd 2010 5:21PM
Agreed. Where's the love for us Android users?
Aerodactyl Sep 22nd 2010 5:25PM
Seriously, iPhones are so 2000 and late. Need to get cracking on the Droid version...
niko Sep 22nd 2010 5:25PM
i hope they would find the dev time to make it look pretty on iPad.
universal apps are pure win imo, and if the money they are getting from mobile armory subs supports the dev time, it sure would be nice!

I had trouble with the image loading on my iPhone 3G, OS 4.0. The problem would be badly blending images. One series had my email screen on it! ^_^
Taking a screenshot was possible but painful. But in the end, I won with nifty wallpaper of my current gear replacing the T9 shot I had been using. :)

There is an easter egg to view your character as a murloc. First go to the home screen. Select "Help". Then choose "About". Shake your phone and a NES controller will appear. Enter the Konami code (up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A).
The app will then say that Murky mode has been enabled and when you view your characters they appear as murlocs and you can choose the dancing animation to watch it dance!
Kar On E Sep 22nd 2010 5:51PM
I can confirm this...awesome!!!! Wish it showed armor on the murloc, but I'll take the dance animation at least!
Thanks!! Total uprate and a high-5 for you!
