The Classifieds: Tarnished for the best luck

Well, not to be sappy, but they brought a smile to my face, too.I just wanted to drop a quick note to say that the people who work as GMs are just awesome!
I'm getting married on Sept. 25 and knew that I wouldn't have much time to play the game. As a bit of a joke, I contacted a GM in game to ask if Blizzard would be getting me a wedding gift. Fast-forward to two weeks later and I finally get a chance to log in. I have a message from GM-Rhyalie congratulating me on my upcoming wedding and providing me a wedding gift of two Tarnished Silver Rings.
I thought that this was was an extremely nice gesture on Blizzard's part. I know that we often forget that it's the people behind that game that make it great, and today those people brought a smile to mine (and my soon-to-be wife's) face.

Cantchops of Saurfang (US-H) While leveling a bear tank, I queued for the dungeon finder and got Blackrock Depths. Everything went well, and we managed to down the boss to get near the finish, but wiped shortly after. Having never really been to BRD before, I had no idea where the entrance was. The others in the group were able to make it back and eventually dropped group when I had trouble. One member stayed; Cantchops of Saurfang (US-H) stayed and carefully guided me to the entrance. I'm sure hey was frustrated but I made it and was eternally grateful. -- JeffSequa of Maelstrom (US-H) While grinding Netherwing rep, I saw an egg in the mine. In jumping down to grab it, I pulled something that glitched out and kept me in combat out of my line of sight. Sequa came along as I frantically blew up another mob to try and break combat and do everything I can to get loose. After I relogged, not only had he not taken the egg, but he continued to wait until I found what was glitching me. To top it all off, he refused any compensation, instead telling me, "I hate it when people do that to me, so I don't do that to anyone else." Sequa, thanks for being a generous soul in a world of ninjas. -- Adeux <Aster Arcanum>, Maelstrom (US-H)

Employment: Guild recruiting
Is your guild ready for Cataclysm? Send in your guild name, realm, guild website and a sentence or two on your guild's focus (10-man, RP, late-night raiding, whatever) to theclassifieds@wow.com. Keep your entry to a few sentences so that readers can easiy understand your message.
Adult casual <Kismet> of Bloodhoof (US-A) is looking for adult casual players who are focused on enjoying the game and the many things it has to offer. In anticipation of Cataclysm, we've been working on achievements together and farming reputation, rare mounts and the like. We will offer a chance to run 10-mans without pressure and mandatory nights. If you are looking for fun and friendship, look us up or whisper Auxesia in game.
Casual 10-man <Awesome Sauce> of Khadgar (US-A) is recruiting for 10-man raiding in Cataclysm. We plan to level from 80 to 85 together then begin raiding 10-mans and are looking for all classes and specs. We have a laid-back attitude toward the game and place having fun above all else. At most, we'll raid two nights a week and will give every member who wishes to raid a chance to do so.
Family-friendly <Symbol of Aggression> of Frostmane (US-H) is a large and successful casual, social, leveling, sometimes-raiding, family-friendly, mature, non-vulgar-chat guild. We are always looking for more like-minded players. All classes and levels welcome as long as you're nice! Additionally, as we head into Cataclysm, we are looking for leaders in organized PvP, casual raiding and a guild website manager. Please note: mean, rude, crude, vulgar, trade-type chat will get you insta-booted -- in a family-friendly way, of course.
Icecrown Citadel 10-man <Maverick Hunters> of Trollbane (US-H) is recruiting players to fill out our core team. We are a fun, social raiding guild. We are looking for mature players with a sense of humor. Currently, we are recruiting all classes and roles. We raid Thursday and Sundays at 9 p.m. server time. We are 10/12 in ICC-10 and once we get Kingslayer, we are on to to hard modes. Contact Methyl, Aliann, Eluni or Graceia in game for more information. And yes, we have a tabard, bank tabs and Vent.
Progression team <Awakened Too Soon> of Scarlet Crusade (US-H) is looking for a few raiders to round out our 10-man progression team to kill the Lich King and build a solid raid team for Cataclysm. We are a new guild of old friends who have been playing together for a while, and in addition to raiding, we do a lot of PvP and various other forms of tomfoolery. We are especially looking for a restoration druid and a restoration shaman, but capable raiders of all sorts can message or mail Malakaar in game.

These tales are always good to hear. Especially since there are so many negative ones also. For instance, back in Vanilla, I was so excited when I got the Tux and Wedding Dress patterns with my tailor and was making them for people in my guild. A woman in the guild asked me to make her the dress, and I made it for her no problem. I was wearing my tux and she put it on and we were all having a dance party in SW by the fountain. Long story short, this woman happened to have a serious crush on me (apparently for some time) and was a bit psycho. She had some program or just screenshotted EVERY conversation we ever had. After it all came out, I explained I was married and basically No thank you. That didn't stop her from being psycho though. She emailed my wife (she found on social networking site) and told my wife her and I had been carrying on a relationship with her on the game. She sent a screenshot of the dance and said we had had a WEDDING, and also chopped up conversations we had had and took parts out of context and changed the meaning. My wife was a little upset, but she trusted I was telling her the truth, and I invited her sit next to me while I played just to see how crazy this woman was. It didn't take long for my wife to see how she acted, and everything was fine.
So, moral is...be careful what you do in game, as well as anything on the internet, as it can always come back to bite you.

Sooooo jealous of you guys that have wives that play. Happy for you though! I hope your adventures together are pleasant. Mine are on hold while I pop popcorn for The Food Network.
Tanisa Sep 24th 2010 7:54AM
I will say it's a treat having a wife who also plays. It's "our" time when we run heroics (she's a tank, I'm a healer/DPS) and the in game holiday's are so much more fun when you can share them with the one you love.
Cheers,
T.

i attended an in-game wedding in stormwind a few years ago. it was pretty cool. we even gave the couple wrapped wedding gifts.
the marriage didn't last long, however. probably because a shadow priest performed the ceremony instead of a holy priest.
oh well. live and learn, i suppose.

Vrykerion Sep 23rd 2010 6:42PM
No no no. Meeting your significant other via gaming makes you a GREAT nerd.

Back in vanilla days, I was about level 50 or something on my druid and running around Searing Gorge on the Dark Iron(pvp) server. I ran into the tunnels in the middle of the gorgey pit and bumped into a horde warlock. I thought ello hear, we're in for a bit of a blow mate, but rather than flat out attacking him I just waved. He waved back and we made our way through the tunnels helping each other out by helping to kill mobs that were attacking each other.
It was a great experience as we were only able to communicate in basic emotes but I had a lot of fun.
I did accidentally starfire his succubus through a tab target error - but even then we didn't come to blows. I can't remember his name as it was too many years ago, but it was great to help instead of gank a member from the other side.

This happens a lot of pvp servers. Not everyone on them are there to pvp 100% of the time, particularly in populated questing areas. I've had similar things happen to me and it's always nice.

My now-husband proposed to me outside of the Alliance inn in Dalaran. Yes, in-game, but then he walked across the room from his desk to mine and asked in real life too. XD He gave me one of the gold wedding bands you get from the Shattrath fishing dailies.
Then we had the Pinky Street custom-making artisan lady make replicas of our characters wearing the real clothes we were going to wear, and used them as a cake topper.
That was a bit over a year ago! The only bad thing was that I planned the wedding early enough (I thought) that we could go to Blizzcon for our honeymoon - little did I know the convention would fall early that year, and it landed on the same exact weekend I'd picked for our ceremony. Ah well.
Rufio Sep 23rd 2010 6:27PM
Blizcon for a honeymoon! Awesome!
Pipsi Sep 24th 2010 1:44PM
Requesting pics of wedding toppers, that sounds so adorable!! (I wish I had thought of that... xD;)
Doc Sep 23rd 2010 6:39PM
That's weird. I am a GM that was very well known on my server and I also run a gaming site. My wife and I met in game and I asked Blizz if they could do anything and they said no... But, wouldn't be the first time I saw inconsistency there.
Nonetheless, good luck to the both of you!

I must say, the GMs in WoW are class acts... I've never run into one that was in a rush, annoyed, or in any way rude or anything like that.
Granted, I'm also a rather nice person, and I don't project my anger onto them, so that may help the matter...
However, the GMs who I've talked to (especially the ones on Scarlet Crusade... they're the best!) were always awesome, and most of them had a hilarious intro to boot.
