Cataclysm Beta: Select guild raid achievement requirements reduced

Once Cataclysm launches, there will be a whole new set of achievements just for guilds, only compounding my poor, crippling obsession. A metric ton of them are for completing old instances and raids as a guild, and grabbing those points requires 80 percent guild participation. Under the guidelines laid out earlier in September, that meant you'd need to take along at least 20 guildies to conquer Serpentshrine Cavern (a BC 25-man), even if you could easily complete it with fewer.
Well, for those of us who are obsessed with collecting achievement points, there's good news -- Blizzard just cut the required participation rate for all the old school Burning Crusade raids. On the official forums, blue poster Mumper confirmed that they're treating all old 25-man raids as 10-mans -- instead of needing 20 guildies to take on Lady Vashj and Kil'jaeden, you will now only need 8.
The full blue post is after the break.
We just made a change to all of the old 25 player raids that allows guild achievements to be completed as if they were a 10 player raid. This means you will only need 8/10 instead of 20/25.
Get hyped. =)
Get hyped. =)
The change really only applies to Burning Crusade raids like Serpentshrine Cavern, since those are the only 25-man raids currently in the game without a 10-man version. This move follows what Blizzard already did for 40-man raids like Molten Core, which similarly only require eight guild members for the achievement.
The news is especially good news for smaller guilds, who may have a lot of trouble herding a large number of players into an old-school raid that offers little reward beyond achievement points. And since most of these older 25-man and 40-man raids can be run with far fewer than 20 people, the high requirement was nothing but a burden, anyway.

I joined WoW late, so i was never able to finish a raid. Ever. And i never got to see WotLK raids. So hopefully now i can raid some of the older raids with my guild. the hardest part seemed not the actual raid but finding a group to raid with when everyone is doing end-game content.

I hear you man, I'm in the same boat. I think this is a grand move.

Agreed. I came about a year ago and I didn't have time to do raids because of my constrained schedule and because my free time never lined up with my server's raid times and raid nights. Also, when everyone else was doing ICC, it's harder to gear up so I just decided to gear up as best as possible via the dungeon finder. When Cataclysm comes, I'll reevaluate my schedule and see if I can finally start raiding.

Even tho Ive cleared through most of the old content before, I think this is a great move. Ive always enjoyed going back down the nostalgia road. And as uve said its a great move to able people to experience all the great old content.

Same here, I started playing in late BC, played for 2 mo. had to quit for awhile and only installed WotLK about 2 months ago. So I also missed out on all of the BC raid Content, matter of fact I'm starting a guild with one of my low level alts and old content raids are one of the things we'll be working on.

All the news of guild achievements has me hoping to hit the older content and run some of the raids I missed. There are some really cool people in my guild, and rampaging through vanilla and BC content with them sounds like a blast. And it gets us nifty stuff in return!

@Fox Van Allen:
I'm sorry, but you have the wrong link for the most mind numbing achievement...

"They Love Me in That Tunnel" was a breeze in comparison
Thayer Sep 24th 2010 9:46PM
You can actually do both of them together, or at least mostly.
Miah Sep 24th 2010 9:57PM
Oh god...Wintersaber...but I love my purple-white kitty.

Those Timbermaw party hard. Fiyah-watah!
Fox Van Allen Sep 24th 2010 11:56PM
Well, technically that's a feat of strength. I was searching in my head for something that gives you achievement points.
But now that I think of it, though, each and every one of the PvP battleground factions ... those are the TRULY evil achievement grinds.
Saeadame Sep 25th 2010 12:56AM
Agreed on the PvP factions =.=;; You get like 1 point of rep per kill it's redic.
Bapo Sep 25th 2010 2:34AM
Except for Alterac Valley rep factions... those were easy. If you were on the winning side consistently
Arch Sep 25th 2010 2:54AM
The pvp achivements is by far the most time-consuming achivements ingame..Battlemaster, and AB + WSG rep farming..maybe spent 3-4 hours for the timbermaw rep (yes I know it was harder before, but still nothing compared to the above)..compared to the battlemaster which I spent, help me god I dont even wanna know the number of days Ive spent for that. -_- But it feels great when uve achived it..
Blayze Sep 25th 2010 5:40AM
I asked Blizzard during one of those Dev Chats if they were going to make the Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin rep grinds easier (Such as, y'know, updating them to Alterac Valley's level) and they flat-out said they liked them as they were.
TOO BAD THEY'RE TERRIBLE.
Where's the rep on kills? On flag returns? On base assaults? On defences? On FC kills?
Bronwyn Sep 25th 2010 8:17PM
I did this the easy way. I started out horde, and when I decided to transfer I spent a few weeks doing the Venomhide Ravasaur quests. Then I faction switched and BOOM instant winterspring frostsaber MWAHAHA.
