Cataclysm Beta: Select guild raid achievement requirements reduced

Once Cataclysm launches, there will be a whole new set of achievements just for guilds, only compounding my poor, crippling obsession. A metric ton of them are for completing old instances and raids as a guild, and grabbing those points requires 80 percent guild participation. Under the guidelines laid out earlier in September, that meant you'd need to take along at least 20 guildies to conquer Serpentshrine Cavern (a BC 25-man), even if you could easily complete it with fewer.
Well, for those of us who are obsessed with collecting achievement points, there's good news -- Blizzard just cut the required participation rate for all the old school Burning Crusade raids. On the official forums, blue poster Mumper confirmed that they're treating all old 25-man raids as 10-mans -- instead of needing 20 guildies to take on Lady Vashj and Kil'jaeden, you will now only need 8.
The full blue post is after the break.
Re: Guild achievements for classic dungeons/raidsWe just made a change to all of the old 25 player raids that allows guild achievements to be completed as if they were a 10 player raid. This means you will only need 8/10 instead of 20/25.
Get hyped. =)
Get hyped. =)
The change really only applies to Burning Crusade raids like Serpentshrine Cavern, since those are the only 25-man raids currently in the game without a 10-man version. This move follows what Blizzard already did for 40-man raids like Molten Core, which similarly only require eight guild members for the achievement.
The news is especially good news for smaller guilds, who may have a lot of trouble herding a large number of players into an old-school raid that offers little reward beyond achievement points. And since most of these older 25-man and 40-man raids can be run with far fewer than 20 people, the high requirement was nothing but a burden, anyway.

I'm actually very glad to see this - It's the BC raids that I can never get anyone to group up to run since I started (6 months before Wrath!!), and that bites because now I've been through Northrend and seen firsthand all of that story, but have only read the major stuff in Outland...

I really don't understand why these achievements aren't fractional - it seems like so long as 80% of you raid (whatever size it is) is made up of guild members, you should be able to get the achievement.
Schadenfreude Sep 24th 2010 10:03PM
This. Their reluctance to just roll with an ostensibly easier across-the-board 80%-of-total-group requirement suggests that there's some kind of programming obstacle involved, and it's easier to individually set the 4/5, 8/10, etc, requirement.

Molten Core can be soloed. Blackwing Lair can be done with 3 people. I think they want "guild achievements" to actually entail getting a group of guildies together and doing something, as opposed to, "Hey guys. I just soloed MC, so don't worry about that one."

"it seems like so long as 80% of you raid (whatever size it is) is made up of guild members, you should be able to get the achievement."
Agreed, particularly since I recently full cleared molten core with just a shadow priest and a destruction warlock. Felhound for interrupts/dispels, shadowform for tanking, vampiric embrace for heals, and there you go. We wiped about 6 times, but that was more from having no clue how half the fights worked (and those damn resurrecting core hounds bugging.)

I agree with Amaxe. The Winterspring Frostsaber is the absolute WORST rep grind ever. Timbermaw is soooo easy compared to that.

Clearly you've never gotten exalted with the Bloodsail Buccaneers.
Bapo Sep 25th 2010 2:36AM
I was thinking of doing that, but sitting there... camping one mob to hit exalted, that spawns every so often... Just no... >.
cielago Sep 25th 2010 11:52AM
a bot would consider grindy to get bloodsail rep to exalted, but it wouldn't give achiev points, so it doesn't count (for purposes of this post)

I'd say that Brood of Nozdormu is up there too, especially solo. Starting at the bottom of Hated to Exalted takes forever doing just turn ins, and even the Raids (AQ20 gives Brood Rep on Bosses, AQ40 gives rep from all mobs up to a point iirc).

Does this mean that I can get 8 guildies, my friend's guild can get 8 guildies, and their friend's guild can get 8 guildies, and we all get together as 24 and get all three guilds their achieves in one go?
I have a feeling it'll be limited to one "guild achievement" credit per kill, and will probably go to the raid leader's guild, provided that at least 8 members of that guild are present.
Bapo Sep 25th 2010 2:38AM
It will have to be mostly the raid leader's guild.
Batium Sep 25th 2010 12:48AM
Interesting, I thought that as long as the percentage in the group was over 80% then you got the achievement i.e me and a guildmate 2 man ZG, 2 out of 2 people is 100% of the group, 100% is greater than 80% therefore it would count. oh well, at least I know in advance to grab 7 others when running old raids.
Snuzzle Sep 25th 2010 1:16AM
This was in fact probably the exact reason they are requiring it to be 8/10, to prevent people from going in and two manning or whatever. Heck, I could get the guild achievements on my alt vanity guild if that were the case.
Shadamehr Sep 25th 2010 1:48AM
Great move, was tired of Blizzard punishing you for being in a 10 man guild, great to see this has changed in Cataclysm :)
Finnicks Sep 25th 2010 12:15PM
Don't be confused.
This -only- applies to Burning Crusade 25-mans. You will still need 20 out of 25 guildies to get guild achievements if you choose to run Cataclysm raids in 25-man mode, or are trying to get Wrath of the Lich King 25-man guild achievements. Although honestly I don't know if there are different achievements for 10-man and 25-man when it comes to Wrath content.

Oh wow sorry guy. I read "punishing" as "pushing" and misunderstood your entire post!

I'm excited.
Marshall Sep 25th 2010 3:09AM
So I wonder if they'll do the same for Wrath raids? No doubt those will become slightly easier in T14 ilvl 500s or whatever endgame Cata will have. (I'm not suggesting that I know what ilvl endgame cata gear will be, just guessing lol)
ElrithCC Sep 25th 2010 4:23AM
Wait, does this mean Black Temple is now only a 10 man?
If so, this will be even more incentive to have my guild assist me with farming the war glaives to make my demon hunter role play complete!
