World of Raids going offline in favor of MMO-Champion

Now, Kody, a World of Raids administrator, has announced that World of Raids will be going offline and that most of the page views will automatically forward over to MMO-Champion. At the same time, MMO-Champion will receive a facelift by the same designer who created the Wowstead design. According to Kody, the new design will not repeat any of the "mistakes" in the WoR design, although Kody didn't specify what those mistakes may have been. World of Raids will still be providing basic coverage until the final forwards are completed and the lights are turned out.

Shame, but they were basically both posting exactly the same thing on a daily basis anyway.

NOOOOOO!!!!
Also? Totally called it.

All the wowstead users just screamed out in pain....
The wowstead upgrade was most poorly executed upgrade I've ever witnessed, and in the end we got less features and a slower webpage. My guild is currently moving away from wowstead, I really cant believe MMO is moving to it!
kraar Sep 25th 2010 6:11PM
Ooops not using wowstead but the designer. Hope MMO can survive it.

After the wowstead change went down and I've seen features I loved disappear entirely, I've been looking elsewhere too. Made a page on the side to mess around with at guildomatic which I think is where we will end up.

Clearly you don't use digg and missed the big v4 update

All three sites look pretty bad. If WoWstead had been my work, and I was making a new site, I don't think I'd be bragging about that.
It's like Bowser selling Home Security systems.

The wowstead changes were horrid. I checked out my old guild's website the other day, only to find that I couldn't log in, everything was painfully slow, and all kinds of stuff was missing. F-A-I-L.

I'm starting to intensely dislike Curse. All the world needs is another conglomerate buying crap up just to close it down.
Arturis Sep 25th 2010 7:04PM
I happen to knew some of the guys over at Curse, including the graphic designer who is working on the MMO-C redesign. They are good guys, and they work hard to make a living off of what they enjoy. Its a tough thing to take your gaming passion and turn it into a profitable business, so I think they deserve at least a little commendation on that front. The point of this comment, though, is that they are not the massive soulless corporation that people depict them as.
Noselacri Sep 25th 2010 7:30PM
@Arturis
Every soul sucking corporation has actual people working for it. That doesn't make them any less vampiric.

Except that they bought MMOC, then closed down their own pre-existing site because the one they bought was, subjectively, better (ie, more pageviews, etc). Hence the reason they bought it in the first place.

****ing Curse.

All MMO-Champion needs is a name change. It took me a while before I started reading it regularly because, given the name, I would always think "I only really care about WoW, so I'm not interested in a general MMO site."
Of course, now I know that MMO-Champion is just WoW, but that's not evident to a newcomer.
Hih Sep 25th 2010 6:40PM
Heh, that kinda reminds me of the first time I'd heard about MMO-C, which was when he datamined all the new Shattered Sun stuff for 2.4. I went to the site, looked around, and was like, "It's called MMO-Champion. Where's all the other MMO information?"
Vaeku Sep 25th 2010 8:42PM
Wait, what?
You're complaining about MMO-Champion needing a name change, while World of Raids posts about more stuff than just raids? Ooookay.
MrJackSauce Sep 25th 2010 9:19PM
I believe the side MMO-Champion is actually a play on the fact that Wow is the "MMO-Champion"
Touphemia Sep 25th 2010 6:43PM
Yeah, MMO-Champion TOTALLY needs a facelift.
/sarcasm
Corday Sep 27th 2010 9:19AM
It doesn't need a facelift, just a new skull.
It looks alright from a graphics standpoint, but the underlying layout is very poorly constructed. The sidebar is unbelievably cramped and barely a tenth the size of the content area. Content text is over 200 characters wide, but the "best practices" recommendation for optimal readability is 60 to 80 characters. Images and tables are centered under those too-wide blocks of text, causing ENORMOUS indentations and making the entire site look very sloppy. The comments page isn't threaded, making conversations difficult to follow.
It needs a lot of work.

Curse have made the right choice when choosing between the two sites. MMO-C, who used to be waaay behind WoR when posting new news, is now faster and more popular and covers a greater range.
However, Curse have made the wrong choice when deciding that they should only have one site. It's like they don't understand what a "network" actually is. The decision didn't have to be made. Most people that view WoR view MMO-C anyway. WoR was not taking away from MMO-C, except that most of the people that posted on WoR forums would never want to post on MMO-C's forums. They liked their quieter more civilised discussions.
