WRUP: Everyone else gets drunk while I get beat up edition

Last week, I wrote a little story for WRUP. This week, I just spent three hours smashing myself into Wintergrasp and lots of random BGs after nearly a year away from PvP, meaning that my nerves are frayed, and I learned that yes, I have forgotten pretty much every lesson I'd ever learned about the subject. So instead of telling an amusing anecdote or making up fanfic about Lisa Poisso doing battle with an eldritch chocolate monstrosity, I'm just going to get straight to the meat of what folks are playing this weekend. Mostly, it seems like everyone's doing Brewfest, having a great time. And at least two of us will be outside in the fresh air.
Me? I appear to be playing the role of Kazuyuki Fujita's skull. In between rounds, people complain that it takes me too long to die. I laugh bitterly. At least my fist weapon looks cool.
- Dan O'Halloran: WoW Cataclysm beta, Vindictus beta, WoW PTR, deleting FFXIV beta off HD, LotRO Vol. 3 Book 2, WoW live version. Oh yeah, also soccer practice, basketball practice, soccer game, Great-Grandma's 92nd b'day and, uh, sleep. Yeah, I remember that.
- Adam Holisky (@adamholisky): No playing for me. Katie and I are traveling down to Minneapolis to see The Scottsboro Boys at The Guthrie. Will be my last out-of-azeroth/BlizzCon experience for the next few months, so looking forward to the time away form the computer! But I don't really need to play much right now either, since I just got the Brewfest title on my shaman. (I've decided I'll do the world events for the next year, let's see if I keep that pledge or not ...)
- Kelly Aarons (@Cadistra): Got Brewfest last year on Cadi, so I'm just going to try for the kodo. Must own all kodos ... I'm also nearing the end of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, so there's that. Afterwards, it's heading to a Science World exhibit with a friend, and comics!
- Joe Perez (@Lodurzj): Preparing for heroic Sindragosa-25 next week, playing some Halo: Reach and some more Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. Since Lodur already has the purple drake of gaudy win, I'll be trying to get motivated to get the protadin into hellfire so I can shoot through the levels up to 80, but levels 50-58 always seem so soul-sucking, and she's stuck at 55. Maybe I can con a guildie into a few BRD runs!
- C.Christian Moore (@TheArenaGuy): I've actually got a very hectic weekend coming up. Studying ~10 hours a day, going to work out Saturday morning after Scars of Mirrodin midnight pre-release (Magic: The Gathering nerd here) for my one gaming experience ... then back to studying. I wish I could sneak in some time for WoW, but my schedule will have none of it.
- Mathew McCurley (@gomatgo): Friday night is another stab at Ulduar 25-man drakes. Pray for me, if you're the praying sort. Saturday ... uh ... I have no idea. Sunday is the Atlantic Antic in Brooklyn! Yay! It's a giant street fair down Atlantic Avenue. Everyone basically moves their shops outside and its a ton of fun. Good food. Real good food ...
Seriously, guys, I'm getting the heck beat out of me here. I'm getting hit like asteroids from space being ridden by a race of sentient atomic bombs that just found out I've insulted Robert Oppenheimer. Which I would never do, by the way.
- Robin Torres (@cosmiclaurel): I'll be at the WoW Insider It came from the Blog Brewfest 2010 celebration -- and so will everyone else, right? Right?
- Daniel Whitcomb (@danielwhitcomb): I'll be doing heroic runs on the beta servers, mostly.
- Lisa Poisso (@emused): I really, really, really want to get a good, deep bite of the latest novel on my reading stack, and I hope to find enough time to get Prupher through The Barrens and out into the cool forests of Silverpine. I try to keep my butt out of the office chair on the weekends -- but if I have time, I also have some ideas for screenshots to use in upcoming articles that I'd like to roam around and take in the beta. And then there's that bottle of wine ...
- Basil Berntsen (@outdps): I'm forgoing talking about hunting in game to go hunting IRL.
- Matt Low (@matticus): Like C. Christian Moore, I too will be nerding it up and attending the Scars of Mirrodin pre-release events.
- Christian Belt (@ihatewarlocks): I can't stop playing Recettear, for the life of me. I know there are bigger, more important games out there I should be playing, but I can't stop diving into roguelike-ish dungeons for loot with which to stock my item store. If there is a god, we'll get a PSP or DS version of this, so I can play this thing when I should be working, or sleeping, or driving, or operating heavy machinery.
- Eli Khoury (@Jagoex): I have had a decent amount of luck this past week, getting the Brewfest kodo (I got the ram last year) and knocking one of two remaining achievements towards a Bloodbathed Frostbrood Vanquisher out of the way. I'll spend this weekend trying to hammer out the last achievement, and hoping that luck will have nothing to do with it.
Actually, I'm starting to remember the prot PvP mantra: annoy, annoy, annoy. Keep the enemy focused on you and unable to focus on squishier targets. LIke, for instance, putting Belt and Khoury right next to each other.
- Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey): Writing up a storm, and working on LK-25, hard mode, aka dying a lot. Hooray! (Kill me.)
- Gregg Reece (@undeadfish): I'm going to be playing ... nothing! I'm going to be out in the woods for most of the weekend with no internet and virtually no cell reception. If I'm not back by Wednesday, McCurley can have my column.
- Allison Robert (@AllisonRobert): Going to start assembling dungeon guides for as many Cataclysm instances as I can, getting through some heroics, and hopefully leveling archaeology a bit more on the beta.
- Rich Maloy (@stoneybaby): Friday I'll be doing something I haven't done in two weeks: writing all about enhancement shaman. Saturday, the girlfriend is dragging me around to sample sales -- this is her version of epics. Pray that there are boyfriend couches. My bonus answer: deep fried Oreos.
- Fox Van Allen (@foxvanallen): Civ 5, Civ 5, Civ 5, Civ 5, Civ 5, Civ 5, Civ 5, Civ 5, Civ 5, Civ 5, Civ 5, Civ 5, Civ 5, Civ 5, Civ 5, Civ 5, Civ 5, Civ 5, Civ 5 and if there's still time, Civ 5. I may also choose to eat and sleep at some point this weekend, but signs are currently pointing to "no" on that one.
- Michael Gray (@writegray): I will be playing the "lay carpet" game. Woo. Wahoo.

Civ 5! Woot!
The only disappointing feature of the game is that the leaders of each empire speak the language associated with the empire... except that Augustus speaks Ecclesiastical Latin rather than Classical Latin. The horror!

I actually really like that about the game. It's really interesting. The only problem is that George Washington has a southern accent apparently... I wasn't aware that he was born in Alabama. It gets sort of annoying when you hear that southern drawl come out and all of a sudden, he isn't the founder of the United States, but rather, the Emperor of the Terran Dominion, Arcturus Mengsk... insidious, i know.

I love the language feature, but it makes me want to strangle someone at Firaxis that Augustus speaks CHURCH LATIN. Before the Church even existed!

Virginia's part of the south, right? Right?

I sent out the WRUP email chain and I forgot to respond to it. I am awesome.
I will be playing Minecraft. I've already built a stairway to heaven and filled my friend's tower with snow while he wasn't watching. It was a good day.

If you haven't seen it yet Alex, I suggest you do and hopefully attempt to help your buildings avoid the same terrible fate. Had the same thing happen to me last week or so when I made a cozy log hut when I was spawned in a winter world and thought a fireplace would be a nice addition :(

Christian Belt has the best taste in games of all of you. I can't stop playing Recettear either!! What an addictive little game...

Can someone explain to the Twitter uninitiated exactly what #FF means?
George Sep 25th 2010 1:02PM
#FF is "Follow Friday". On fridays, it is losely customary to list your favotite tweeps under a #FF hashtag, as a suggestion to your followers that they, too, follow these people.

Oh (cutaia), so behind on the times... :)

Learning Microsoft .net MVC... karma for taking the last 6 months off.
Not much time for games, I have to get myself back into the work place again.

I just hit level cap on my baby hunter Ardamac on WHU, so won't be playing him for a bit, other than to possibly level my fishing/cooking skills.
Gotta do the It came from the Blog Brewfest celebration on Sunday, though. That'll be fun, haven't hung out with them in forever!
Ricardo Sep 25th 2010 1:36PM
Recettear is totally addictive... I'm also deep into it at the moment...
I blame 4chan hehe

Is it in bad taste to mention that the my first keg shaped chest this year had the brewfest Kodo in it?
Umbra Sep 25th 2010 2:38PM
Gah. Day 1: main gets emblems, little played mage gets kodo. Day 2: main gets emblems, mage gets SECOND kodo. Gaaaaah!

My Holy/Ret Pally just made it to 60 yesterday, so I'll probably be working on trying to get her out of Outlands ASAP this weekend.
That's why they call it Outlands, and soon as you get there you can't wait to get the f' out.
Also I recently learned how to rom-hack pokemon games, so I might fiddle around with that some more when I'm not healing stupid DKs Death Gripping the tank's target away (of course, I tend to not heal them in the first place. But you get the idea).

Playing wow and hanging-out with friends is what I will be doing, like so many others I guess. Nothing special.
