Cataclysm beta removes portals from Dalaran and Shattrath

This is not a terribly surprising move. With the Cataclysm expansion focusing on the old world, the Blizzard developers no doubt want the old Azeroth to feel lived-in. As long as Dalaran (or Shattrath) has convenient portals to every old-world destination, players would continue to set their hearthstones there for ease of transportation.
However, transportation around the old world is not as limited as it was back in vanilla days. Some of the new zones like Deepholm have portals back to Stormwind and Orgrimmar; those capital cities themselves have portals to Deepholm and others that are not yet active. We've also seen signs of new portals being constructed in the Twilight Highlands.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will destroy Azeroth as we know it; nothing will be the same! In WoW Insider's Guide to Cataclysm, you can find out everything you need to know about WoW's third expansion, from brand new races to revamped quests and zones. I love that "It only takes you a minute or two and a handful for silver to port me to Dalaran" argument (not exact words of course).
Well it only takes you a couple more minutes and a little more silver to hop a boat and fly to Dalaran yourself. Getting a port is a convenience, but by no means is not getting a port ever an inconvenience.
I have no problem giving out ports on my Mage if I'm not doing anything else, but I don't feel obligated to drop what I'm doing just to save a stranger a couple of minutes.
@Falcon6: I feel sorry for your inbox

Jesus Christ, this little debate of yours is still going on?
*Sigh*
@SnackPatrol
To me it looks like you just love to argue (we call 'em trolls here, in the interwebs, btw) and yes, yes, you're making valid points here, I get it. You're just expressing your views too aggressively. a Little kindness goes a long way, y'know.
Hell, if everyone would be KIND or NICE we wouldn't even have this "thread".

Luminaire,
I'm guessing no one's gonna mind you saying that. What SnackPatrol fails to recognize is that his abusive tone and demanding attitude is what is getting him downrated. We all like mages who freely give out ports when they can. Those folks are nice. What we don't like is someone who acts as though mages are somehow obligated to give ports to any one who ever asks.
SnackPatrol is like a crazy guy on the street screaming, "The sky is ****ing green and anyone can see that. You can't disprove me and if you disagree, you're a ****!" Sure...a few people in the crowd might try to prove him wrong, but as he continues to swear and scream at them, people will eventually just start ignoring him. Eventually, it becomes much more fun to just laugh at the idiot than to try and convince him otherwise.
It takes a special breed of person to think they're automatically right because another person refuses to refute their arguments in the exact way they'd like. We can all sense it now...SnackPatrol is preparing to launch into me because -- God forbid -- I haven't bowed down to his whims and specifically countered every "point" he's made.
The cards are all laid out and it's quite clear that this guy wouldn't care about what I had to say anyway. His sky is green and that's all there is to it.
The funniest thing will be when Holisky finally shows up to ban him, because he'll be so filled with rage and superiority because we obviously just couldn't handle the truth! But he won't be able to tell us what cowards we are!
Oh well, at least he'll always have Reddit to complain about being downrated on: http://www.reddit.com/user/SnackPatrol
My favorite part is that the most recent comment continues his trend of thinking he's the absolute authority on everything in the world, "Uh huh, make a subreddit then label the genres wrong more. Makes sense. Downvote this one too, dick. [...] So are you going to allow inclusion of actual Pop Punk bands now or are you gonna be a dick and refuse to admit you're wrong"
clundgren Sep 27th 2010 12:31PM
Arguing with a troll is fail. Move on, folks.
Swifteye Sep 27th 2010 12:32PM
@Snackpatrol,
While I imagine you're going to jump all over me for "putting words in your mouth" or whatever, I just have to say this.
I'm not pointing out any one specific post of yours, I'm saying the overall FEELING of your posts (whether or not you intended it thusly) is that if ANY mage EVER denies a port for ANY REASON (other than the very few you personally deem "acceptable") even ONCE, they're automatically a selfish jerk for the rest of their life.
I have NEVER accepted gold for a port. I have run out to the middle of BFE to save someone begging me for a port multiple times. I have gone to people way more often than they've come to me, I've dropped groups, surrendered my place in LFD queues, done absolutely EVERYTHING in my power to be a happy, helpful mage regardless of the personal inconvenience to myself.
But I do remember one time when I'd just had an argument with my boyfriend IRL, I was on the verge of tears, someone whispered me for a port and I just logged off without saying anything.
Well I wasn't in the queue at the time, I could've spared the time but just didn't feel like it, but the point is I COULD have if I wanted to... and I didn't... so now people are gonna think I'm a dick for the rest of my life, regardless of how much good I've done or will continue to do in the future?
THAT is the meat of my opinion. You're offending the crap out of people by automatically judging them very harshly on one very specific action, and it's not a terribly respectable opinion, quite frankly. And I think more people would be willing to agree with several valid points of yours if you weren't (SEEMINGLY, again, not trying to put words in your mouth, just letting you know how you come across to others) bending over backwards to insult us and try and make us feel like horrible human beings just because we might have denied ONE portal request while granting 999 others.
P.S. (cutaia) is a deity among commentators; you're not earning any brownie points by going after him specifically. Just sayin'.

"The funniest thing will be when Holisky finally shows up to ban him"
Do I know how to call 'em or what? :D

@SnackPatrol:
Don't you need to get back to trade chat or something? They're going to miss you there.
Mayhew Sep 27th 2010 1:20PM
Well it looks like SnackPatrol's posts are gone now, but I'll just say this, since s/he is probably still reading this thread:
Go read "Atlas Shrugged" and then get back to us once you're done with that.
That is all.
