Choose My Adventure: Prupher pictorial and Gilneas excursion

Spoiler warning: Robinemia's story and video after the break are full of Cataclysm spoilers. You have been warned.
Peenk the gnome priestess is winning the polls as of this writing, but some boring human to see the new starting quests is close behind, if you want to tip the votes toward that instead. Of course, if worgen females are actually playable by Wednesday's stream, I'll drop everything to play a worgen druidess instead. Recaps from last week are after the break, but first, here's the schedule.
Schedule
- Adam Holisky as Adammentat, the level 65 tauren druid, will play on Monday at 10 p.m. EDT.
- Anne Stickney as Annephora, the level 42 troll warrior, will play on Tuesday at 1 a.m. EDT (which is Monday at 11 p.m. Zangarmarsh time).
- Robin Torres will play whomever wins the polls: Wednesday, 1 p.m. EDT. Note: This will be streamed.
- Fox Van Allen as Foxlight, the level 26 blood elf paladin
- Lisa Poisso as Prupher, the level 12 tauren druid
- Michael Sacco as Shockbroker, the goblin shaman
- Christian Belt, as Selfloathius, the level 16 blood elf warlock
- Robin Torres, as Robinemia, the level 29 Forsaken mage
- Matthew Rossi as Andrenorton, the level 17 troll mage
- Gregg Reece as Sandwichdoc, the level 17 troll shaman
Recaps
Lisa Poisso as Prupher, the proofreading druid
A prairie dog won the polls for her companion, so Prupher provided a pictorial journal of her adventures. Please see the gallery below. Also, her pet needs a name. The poll will be on Wednesday, so please make suggestions in the comments. The most popular ones will be added to the poll which will include Lisa's choices of Error, Comma, Del and Stet.
Robin Torres as Robinemia, the awesomest Forsaken huntress ever
The Banshee Queen has a val'kyr carry Robinemia to Gilneas in order to carry on the fighting versus the worgen there. Hilarity ensues. Well, perhaps not hilarity. Death, bloodshed and dire losses ensue. I don't tend to find those hilarious, but you might. The video above shows all of the antics or horror, depending on your viewpoint. Here are some notes:
- As of this writing, the worgen starting area doesn't get into as much Gilnean lore as Silverpine Forest does. So if you want to play around in the worgen homeland, you may want to go Horde long enough to complete all of the awesome Silverpine Forest quests. Don't blame the messenger.
- Spines seem to make good handles for val'kyr.
- I haven't played a hunter for very long in live WoW, so I cannot make fully knowledgeable comparisons. However, I find the Cataclysm hunter to be so much more fun and intuitive than the live hunter. Focus, no ammo and pets from level 1 all make sense to me. I think hunter may become the new flavor of the month after launch.
- No, I don't think the above statement is going to prevent people in stream chat from asking me that question again. But it can't hurt to try.
- To be clear: I don't like hunters in live. I adore them in Cataclysm and will play at least a Forsaken one after launch. In preparation, I am reading Scattered Shots more often. It's not just for entertainment anymore.
- Forsaken hunters begin with bats. Goblin hunters begin with crabs. No, not that kind of crab. Sheesh!
- I am a keyboard turner because ever since I acquired a parasite that then turned into a separate human, I have had varying amounts of motion sickness from using the mouse to move. However, I am trying out a new mouse that will hopefully fix that issue. Regardless, you mouse elitists need to mind your own beeswax. Sheesh, redux.
- Gilneas is a dangerous place for Forsaken. I guess I should have expected this.
- Despite the opinions of some, WoW Insider does not have a Horde bias. I, personally, do (though I adore gnomes).
- I am fine with the worgen models, faces, etc. They are supposed to be werewolves, after all. The above statement may affect my view. however.
- It seems obvious to me, regardless of my bias, that more time was spent on goblin and Forsaken quests than on the other races' quests. Gnomes got some good love, but really, goblins and undead are winning the fun competition so far.
- What is the "lore" behind the removal of ammo? Are we using magic ranged weapons that conjure the ammo as needed? Or does the game just assume we are doing the boring routine of buying ammo, storing it in our quivers and keeping it stocked as necessary? It's kind of like the ancient gaming concept of encumbrance -- it's more realistic to have encumbrance, but it's so very annoying to keep track of that and I'm happy we don't have to in WoW.
- I have two words for you: flaming abominations.
- In Cataclysm, quests find you!
- I never saw the movie. I'm the kind of dork that makes a reference in the hopes of seeming cool. <insert dork noise here>
- Regardless, the new quest mechanics that allow for completing and accepting quest chains out in the field are totally awesome. They explain them with lore -- "Sylvanas speaks in your mind," "the communication device crackles" -- but I am willing to suspend disbelief anyway just for the convenience.
- I am randomly directionally challenged. It's like a very slight dyslexia. Yes, that applies both in game and in the physical world.
- If you have a computer that is behind the times, I highly recommend saving up to upgrade before Cataclysm launches. Blizzard has enhanced the little details such as ground textures and water effects and they are eye candy.
- Why would a Forsaken captain be terrified by a bunch of humans? Shouldn't it be the other way around? Aren't undead resistant to fear? I'm not questioning the story writers. I am badmouthing Captain Rutsak, the fraidy-cat.
- I use VHScrCap and Adobe Flash Media Encoder 2.5 to stream.
- We didn't finish the quests in Gilneas, so the next time Robinemia is voted in, we will continue. Don't worry, I won't quest without you.
- I love this game.

Keyboard turning is just fine for most gameplay Robin. If you're trying to become a Rank 1 Gladiator in 2v2, or are trying to be world first heroic end-boss, then keyboard turning is really not okay.
Since I'm not seeing you stream or talk about doing hardcore arena or attempting to join vodka or blood legion, I have to assume that keyboard turning is fine, just fine, for your play style. Having fun is more important than causing yourself to get nauseous trying to match the expectations of the hardcore.

How about Red Pen for Prupher's prairie dog, no proof reader is without a trusty red pen for corrections :D
Duulket Sep 28th 2010 8:54AM
I like Red Pen also.

Am I the only one that's kind of upset about this whole fact that some of the biggest and best Worgen/Gilnean lore is happening... FOR THE HORDE? The completely opposite faction? And completely different races?
No? No one finds that the LEAST BIT aggrivating? Because I certainly as hell do. Down vote me if you want, but I think it makes perfect sense for heavy lore Worgen/Gilnean quests to be played by, I don't know, Worgen? The Alliance? Maybe? Yeah.
Fletcher Sep 27th 2010 9:06PM
Lots of people agree with you. Myself included, very definitely. The ways of Blizzard are mysterious, inscrutable, and at times infuriating. Still, on this particular issue I've moved from frothing rage to jealous anger, and now only want to kill every Forsaken I see. As opposed to the ones I can't see as well.
North Sep 27th 2010 9:16PM
I'm and avid Horde player but I agree with you.
Although its cool to see the storyline from both sides its kinda lame that Worgen don't at least get to see the conclusion of said story.
Seeing as the new Gilneas BG no longer takes place in the city proper I don't understand why the Ruins of Gilneas City and a few outlying forts/islands can't compose the Worgen 12-20 experience.
Eternauta Sep 27th 2010 9:20PM
I'm a (mostly) Horde player and I support this message.

WTB Edit Button: *an avid Horde player
Also to respond to Fletcher I don't think this is the ideal situation for blizz. They began work on the Worgen zone first then brought what they learned to the goblin zone. Because of this the goblin zone does not commit some of the same mistakes the Worgen zone does.
Also Azshara was practically a clean slate quest wise and lore wise for the devs to work with as opposed to all the Eastern Kingdom zones neighboring Gilneas that already had well developed story lines.
Hopefully a better Worgen 12-20 storyline will be patched in later, even if it means creating a new zone.
Robin Torres Sep 27th 2010 9:23PM
Of course it doesn't make sense. Of course it is aggravating. That's why I said "don't blame the messenger." :)
jealouspirate Sep 27th 2010 9:32PM
Yeah, I have to add my agreement to this sentiment.
Look at it this way:
With Cataclysm, Blizzard has added four new races to the game. Three of them get a 1-20 leveling experience. One doesn't.
It just kind of sucks.
Dreyja Sep 27th 2010 10:01PM
You may add me to the seriously aggravated list. :)
Joseph Smith Sep 27th 2010 11:57PM
Highly aggrivating. The sad thing is since i found this out i deleted my Undead Horde for the simple need to re-roll it for Cataclysm so i can redo the starting quests and find out what happens to Gilneas after my poor puppy is kicked out to Kalimdor.
Luckily for Blizz it was only lvl 20.
Joseph Smith Sep 28th 2010 12:00AM
"Three of them get a 1-20 leveling experience. One doesn't"
It was mathematically impossible. They had to steal some levels to give to the Trolls and Gnomes.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. The Worgen starting zone is NOT DONE YET. I tested it myself, and right after you destroy the Horde airship, you are given a placeholder 'quest' that teleports you to Rut'Therin Village. I assume this 'quest' is going to be replaced by a chain. It may not contain more lore than the entire Silverpine Forest zone, but it might be enough to satisfy the Worgen appetite for some of their more rabid fans when it is implemented.
Puns aside, have you ever heard the phrase 'keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer'? Sylvanas is a big fan of that phrase, in more ways than one, hence the heavy emphasis on Worgen, her newfound neighborly enemies.
Danuta Sep 27th 2010 8:48PM
The IcftB guild bank is beyond hope. We need a "All hope abandon, ye who enter in!" sign and a lock on the door for when company comes over for dinner.
I refuse to buy more ammo. Refuse! I have a little over 1000 arrows left and then I'll be the hunter in rabbit ears hitting things with my staff.
Death Sep 27th 2010 8:48PM
I think Prupher's prairie dog should be named Oopsers.
Iirdan Sep 27th 2010 8:57PM
That "bunch of humans" is the 7th Legion, the Alliance's most elite fighting force. It's to the Alliance what the Kor'kron is to Horde - I'd be damn afraid if an entire FLEET of them showed up on my doorstep.
Robin Torres Sep 27th 2010 9:24PM
Story narc.
G2g591 Sep 27th 2010 9:40PM
NO BETA CLUB :( all of those quests and stuff look AMAZING, sure, I've been on the PTR playing with the new talent choices at level 80.... but I'm totally jealous of you guys being able to enjoy the real meat of the expansion.... sure, we get pummeled by elementals every two hours or so , and Orgrimmar gets razed... but its just not as fun the 10th time.
Dreyja Sep 27th 2010 10:06PM
For the record, I don't think wow.com has a horde bias. I get frustrated by how it's played out sometimes and really think that blizz has done a better job of Horde story from the get-go. But... not wow.com. :D
