The Queue: Dala-ran out of portals

The portals are gone! Run for your lives! Actually, I don't really care -- that's what mages are for, right? To boss around and hound for hours until they take me to the Undercity? What's that? You want a tip? Oh, come now, it's just pressing one button, and I'm thrifty and mean. Start casting, slave! Hey, it's Queue time!
Pyromelter asked:
What's going to happen with soul shard bags, like the Abyssal Bag? It's 32 slots so I can't image they'd just convert it into a normal bag, but I haven't heard what will happen to them.
So far, soul shard bags are turning into regular bags of lower slot count. You obviously won't be getting a 32-slot bag out of the conversion, but hey, you're totally getting more bag slots! Like, real bag slots! That can hold items! Isn't that awesome?
Quill2006 asked:
Sooo ... regular or collector's edition? Which one, and why? I'm torn.
I've been buying the WoW Collector's editions since the beginning, so if I ever stopped, they would look weird on the shelf. Blizzard has me, for totally cosmetic reasons. The collector's edition has got:
- art book, 176 pages
- Lil' Deathwing in-game pet
- Cataclysm soundtrack
- Deathwing mousepad
- WoW TCG cards
omedon666 asked:
Upon looking at the worgen female screenshots, I noticed some circular icons next to the customization options, focusing on her two faces. Is this a toggle between the two forms? Can we actually customize our worgen's two forms separately now?
Currently in beta, the choices you make for one form affect the other form -- kind of like how tauren/night elf skin color affects the color that your bear or cat comes out as. This could change, but we don't currently have that information.
JiBJUB asked:
What's with just the one "t", Mat? Please 'splain. No -- not enough time. Please sum up.
My mother liked one "t" instead of two, for purely cosmetic reasons.
Devo_AS asked:
Will those silly people that don't purchase the expansion get full access to the new (and improved?) post-Cataclysm 1-60 Azeroth?
If you do not purchase the expansion, you get access to all the new content in old-new world Azeroth. You will not, however, be able to create worgen or goblin characters, potentially may not be able to fly in Azeroth and will not have access to the new 80+ content.
Michael asked:
Hey Mat! Long time reader, first time questioner! I have officially begun Kyle Watch! With the coming of the new Azeroth, I was curious if we've gotten any word from the blues if the various make-a-wishes and memorials would remain after the sundering. It would be a shame if the game, with such a rich history of recognizing the memories of the players and creators, were to lose these small touches. Having them in there is one of the major factors of my continual play. It made Blizzard awesome.
I don't think even Deathwing is evil enough to hit these memorials and monuments.

On the topic of soul shard bags, hunter quivers/ammo pouches are also being turned into bags. The TBC quivers have become 18-slot bags and the WotLK quivers have become 20-slot bags. Additionally, the epic quiver from the level 60 quest has become a 24-slot bag!

Really?? I hadn't even noticed, but you're right! Glad I went to the trouble to make mine.
Hiwa Sep 27th 2010 4:33PM
My lock's soul shard bag hasn't converted to anything but a waste of space. What gives?
Drakkenfyre Sep 27th 2010 5:31PM
Some of the conversions are ridiculous.
An 8-slot quiver became a 6-slot bag? Really?
Jorn86 Sep 27th 2010 5:47PM
Only one shard bag is getting converted per character. Maybe you had several?
pancakes Sep 27th 2010 8:12PM
Are they just turned into plain old bags or do they retain their names? I want to wear my Abyssal bag in cata as a sign of pride, and so that I can look down to my bags and be filled with joy.
Drakkenfyre Sep 28th 2010 12:07AM
I fail to see why I was downvoted.
You can't have free 32-slot bags going out, yes. But changing an 8-slot quiver into a 6-slot bag? Isn't that a bit much?
Hih Sep 28th 2010 4:58AM
@Drak: I think the reason you got downrated was because... well... Who the **** even uses 8 slot quivers anyway? You're QQing for absolutely no reason whatso****ing ever. "Oh no! This quiver that only the newest of newbies even uses is getting "nerfed"!" I must complain!"
Drakkenfyre Sep 28th 2010 2:05PM
My point is is for newbies it removed two slots for no reason. It isn't a QQ. It's a "Did they really have to do that?"
It makes sense you don't get some 32-slot bag simply because you grabbed a quiver before the change, and you now have a bag bigger than every other bag in the expansion. But for someone who is new to the game or has a new character, if they buy or make an 8-slot quiver for themselves, at that level 8-slot bags are the standard. Why remove 2 slots? And it isn't just the 8-slots, as it goes up I think they remove slots from all of them.
Again, towards the higher end this makes sense. But at the lower end it doesn't.
Blizzard said, "We are turning them into large bags."

@hih
and i downrated you for the use of newbies as bad thing i get tired of this, everyone was a newbie at one point, and also, he has every freaking right to be upset who are you to judge him. those of you who downrated him should be ashamed >.>

With BC, came a portal/loading screen if you took a flight path from the Undercity to Ghostlands (for an example). I was told it was a way to stop people who didn't have BC from accessing BC content (or something like that). Will similar things be implemented throughout Azeroth in Cataclysm? I know you people who don't have cata will see the new changes, but as for level 80+ zones/content they can't access, what will they see?
MikeLive Sep 27th 2010 1:05PM
They haven't detailed it yet, but there is apparently some other mechanic in place that prevents people without the expansion from accessing any of the new zones, that won't cause an inconvenient loading screen for the rest of us. This mechanic will very sadly not be extended to previous expansion content, namely Quel'thalas and Azuremyst Isles.
Aaron Sep 27th 2010 1:17PM
I know I read that old world flying at 60 won't be available until you purchase Cata. So, they definitely can't fly to any new zone. Not sure about walking to a zone since I'm not in beta. Somewhere I saw that a portal will take you to one (or several) of the new zones so that could be an easy mechanic to control it as well.
V Magius Sep 27th 2010 1:55PM
I'm going to guess, they may put level requirements on the portals. It's on summoning stones and instance portals. I can't think of anything similar that had a level requirement, but it shouldn't be that hard.
Mayhew Sep 27th 2010 1:58PM
You can walk into Twilight Highlands and Uldum, but even as a level-80 toon in full 277 heroic ICC-25 gear, you're liable to get eaten relatively quickly by level 84+ mobs.
So even if they don't add extra barriers to prevent you from accessing those two zones, the inability to level up past 80 or get any of the new quest reward gear (not to mention dungeon drops) should do the trick quite nicely.
Chetti Sep 27th 2010 4:30PM
My guess is that they'd walk into an area with nothing. I had forgotten that ghostlands didn't exist before BC, so when I was working on world explorer on my main (an NE druid), I attempted to swim up the coast from arathi (or.. somewhere over there, I forget exactly) because from the map it looked like I should be able to. I also remembered there being a coast because of a lowbie BElf quest that I'd done before. But I ended up swimming around and never finding that coast, or a way up the mountains. I could get on the ground and run around, but not get up the hills. On the map it looked like I was right in the middle of the land that should be ghostlands, but I was in the water. Then I looked it up and remembered how I had gotten there before, quite by accident, following a road out of EPL. When I did that, and the BC screen came up, it dawned on me. Even if we won't have Cataclysm loading screens, I'd guess that something similar would happen, they'd see a spot where they should be on the map, but actually be standing in the middle of nothing but terrain.

"On the map it looked like I was right in the middle of the land that should be ghostlands, but I was in the water. "
Chetti,
Different scenario. Those BC starting zones don't exist when you swim out there because they are actually on different servers. While they are a part of EK, their placement in the actual map used by the game is somewhere on the Outland server. Uldum, Twilight Highlands, Hyjal, etc., most definitely will be visible and seen by players without Cataclysm. The question of how they'll be kept out of them, is indeed an interesting one.

I have a feeling that they will use phasing. They made heavy use of it in WOTLK in Icecrown, and if I remember right, I believe I read that they would continue to do so in Cat. I am not a game designer by any means, but it would seem a fairly easy thing to implement.

Oh, no you didn't. :P
