World of WarCrafts: Custom World of Warcraft harpy figure
World of WarCrafts spotlights art and creativity by WoW players, including fan art, cooking, comics, cosplay, music, fan fiction and more.
It's Monday, which means you get some interesting WoW-related crafts to distract you from the Monday blues! Speaking of blues, today's creation is all about the color blue -- a custom-made action figure portraying one of the more annoying denizens of The Barrens. Cincicustoms from the Staghelm server managed to whip up this custom harpy figure in record time, all the while putting in an incredible amount of detail.
Check out more about the creation of this work of art after the break.
The harpy figure is absolutely stunning, and the amount of detail that went into the finished product is amazing. "I would say from start to finish, it took about 8 to 10 hours to make including prep work, sculpting, painting and sealing," Cincicustoms says. "The feathers were sculpted with Ave's Apoxie Sculpt, which is a very strong, air-drying epoxie clay. Each feather was made one at time, and I used a combo of dental tools and a knitting needle to sculpt them. It took awhile, but it was actually pretty fun!"
The figure has a lot of articulation as well -- the chest, shoulders, mid-arm, waist, hips, mid-thigh, knees, mid-calf and feet all have full articulation, making the harpy completely poseable. This is pretty amazing, especially considering how much of the arms are covered by feathers. The harpy was originally a WWE Diva figure, which was then sanded down and modified. Cincicustoms has a tutorial of the process available on deviantART as well, for those curious about how the figure came together.
One question was left in my mind, however -- out of all the characters and creations in the world of Azeroth, why a harpy? "I really wanted to do a female from WoW, but something a bit more obscure," Cincicustoms explains. "I remembered back to the good old days of rolling newbie trolls, tauren and night elves and remembered my strange obsession with the harpies. The more they killed me and screamed into my headphones, the more I wanted to take their loot! So I made this to remind me of those times, and to show my fandom to one of my favorite games of all time."
Nice work, Cincicustoms -- and be sure to let us know if you have any other WoW projects under way!

Those are some rather large breasts.
charlie Sep 27th 2010 6:20PM
Agreed. Exaggerated for typical Wow player base. Kids, in real life, they aren't as big as her head :)
syfie Sep 27th 2010 6:36PM
@ charlie
Well it's not real life ;)

Um brother... sorry to say, but you've got to get out from behind that computer more often. ;)
vinniedcleaner Sep 27th 2010 7:01PM
The article did say it was originally a WWE Diva figure, so maybe that's where the big breasteses came from....
Jayson Sep 27th 2010 7:08PM
What a butterface
CallMeIrd Sep 27th 2010 8:11PM
I think my mind went 'breasts' before it went 'harpy'.

I honestly didn't notice the ridiculously oversized breasts until I had read the article, looked at all the pictures, and only when I saw people mention it in the comments did I look back and realize the woman must have lower back muscles composed of some titanium alloy.
I think my Straight Male qualifications may be called into question.

"The more they killed me and screamed into my headphones, the more I wanted to take their loot!"
I know some loot-crazed divers who would like your philosophy.
SillyString Sep 28th 2010 2:36AM
I wouldn't mind this harpy dragging me away for breeding purposes.
Coldhearth Sep 28th 2010 3:58AM
Was just about to make a breast comment and realized that it's already been covered in the comments. Carry on then...
... HUGE TRACTS OF LAND.

That's one of the breast...er best custom figures I've ever seen. It's clear he spent a lot making it, instead of nipple...er nickle and diming it. I think there are a lot of stories like this, and I'm sure it's just the tit...uh tip of the iceberg. Please expose more.
The attention to detail, I'm sure, comes from hours of intense study. When I was a teenager, I spent a lot of time ( A LOT! ) trying to get my hands around a project like this, but I just couldn't get past first base. In the end, though, I was just groping around in the dark.
Okay, that's enough of a trip down mammary...um, memory lane. The occasional article is a nice feature, but just be careful not to do too many like it. I'd hate to see you milk the story.
