No family, but I do have a friend who left the college I'm at to go to a different one. We still play occasionally and I have a few friends from my college who play with me. I only know one other girl who plays, she was 'dragged in' by her boyfriend and whilst I find her on there less often than others (More to do with time than a lack of interest) we do a good bit of chatting and do some quests together. I don't think we'd be as good friends as we are if only relied on spare time at college to sit and chat (as most of that is spent doing essays).WoW can be a 'nerdy diversion' and some are probably ashamed to let their friends know, or don't want to try and explain to family members how to play. However, I think it's a great way to keep in touch and actually, some people who hide the fact that they play WoW are probably hiding it from friends who also play. I just won't clue my family in because they are all either useless with computers, unable to afford the sub or not interested in gaming/being part of the family ever.A friend of mine revealed tome once that both her parents, her uncle, sister and several other family members were all very avid WoW players, which was nice to hear. As a side note, it was nice that she, as someone who had zero interest in WoW, did not disrespect her family for all playing WoW.
