I absolutely use WoW to keep in touch. I have one friend in particular who joined the Army a couple years ago, but got hurt during basic. While he was stuck in the hospital on base for 6 months, he played WoW. Since we all already played on the same server (this was pre-RealID), it was easy to keep tabs on him. Now that he's out of the army and at a different university, we still use WoW to keep in touch. Since we're both altaholics, RealID has made things even easier.
