Breakfast Topic: Which vanity pets have captured your heart?
I have a confession to make. I collect vanity pets. I don't mean I grab the ones from my race's capital and then the ones that go with holidays. I mean I hunt them down, build them, buy them, and do quests I would rather skip because the reward is a pet I'll probably never have out.
How did I end up this way? I guess it started in the Undercity, where I bought a cockroach. In Orgrimmar, I figured the cockroach might like a few snake friends. It wasn't long before I ran out of pets I could get that way, and I wasn't high enough level to get any pet-related quests yet. So I started pouring my gold into pets from the auction house. My gear was from quest rewards because I almost never got drops I could use and my gold was going to pets. I eventually started buying gear first, but I still have trouble forcing myself to buy enchants and consumables when there are pets to save up for.
I have two favorite pets. One is my Dun Morogh Cub, which my husband bought and rode out to Coldridge Valley to give to me. That bear has been by my main's side since level 1. My other favorite is my Phoenix Hatchling. A friend said he'd run Magister's Terrace with me as many times as it took for me to get it. I was a level 70 hunter with BM spec, and he was a level 80 protection warrior. I just couldn't put out enough DPS for us to take down Kael'thas, so we called in another friend to help. It was my first time through there, and I left with a fiery bird flying along behind me!
The one pet I really wish they would add is an Azerothian Schrödinger's Cat. It could be a reward from a quest involving gnomes or the D.E.H.T.A. The worg pup can be either black or brown when summoned, so a cat could have normal and skeletal models to switch between. Since you wouldn't know if the cat is alive or dead until you summon it, the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics implies it would be both alive and dead while unsummoned.
Do you collect vanity pets? Which are your favorites? Is it too early in the day to think about quantum mechanics?

I ended up leveling a warrior up to level 50 just to farm the exclusive horde cat to send to my shammy. While leveling him I was lucky enough to get a certain overpriced recipe that drops in the barrens. sold it for a fortune and used the money to purchase all the argent tournament pets horde side. Then I used a friend to help transfer all the companions to alliance side and with the spare money from the recipe still managed to offer her one of the pets as well.
My favourite on my shammy is the Senjin fetish. I enjoy positioning myself and the camera so that the fetish covers the face and it looks as if I'm wearing the mask.
On my mage it's Mojo that I got thanks to the bug that would give us Mojo if we /kiss a troll outside ZA. I wasnt even level 70 and traveled there on purpose to get it.

Ah, the Enchanted Broom; Fordring sure knew what he was doing when he set up that Tournament; some of the best pets in the game AND they're BoE? That sly devil.
"People will always want mounts and non-combat pets. I could offer a repeatable quest to slap a handful of kittens and people would do it if I gave them a little pet for it. And they'd drop the kittens off a cliff for a mount." -Tirion Fordring (Ask a Faction Leader)

I am definitely a pet collector; it's one of my favorite past-times in the game.
Though it might be because I obtained it recently, the Kirin Tor Familiar is my current favorite pet. It's one of my biggest pets, it looks cool, and it shows just how dedicated I am to pet collecting (it took me almost two weeks to get all those books). I also like taking out my Teldrassil Sproutling while healing, just because we look so similar; Cataclysm will be a sad day, when I can no longer do the tree form dance with my Sproutling any time he dances. RIP Tree of Life.
The Sprite Darter Hatchling will always hold a special place in my heart, though; it's just so pretty. No other reason than that; I just like the way it looks.

I like the darter because of the small chain you have to do to get it. It's like having a pet with a little story as to how you obtained it.

unless ur horde than it show how many darters u slaughtered! lol. personally i love Chuck the baby crocalisk, all the other crocalisks r cool, but chuck is the coolest imo.

I love my Kirin Tor familiar. Out of my 80 odd pets, it comes down to him, Grunty, or the Core Hound pup. Blizzard have really outdone themselves with vanity pets in the last expansion.

I'm sneaking this in on page one for all you other pet collectors. I love pets myself but never could get them all out enough for me to feel like I was really enjoyin them all. Then I found Equus Infinata. Here's the Curse link:
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/equusinfinata.aspx
It randomly selects pets from criteria you choose, and something I love best about it is that when you relog, zone into new places, land after flying, etc, it will always bring the pet out again for you. Never be petless again!
And, it works for mounts. I collect those too, and I have it set to randomly summon any of my favorite ones. (Sorry, fat elekk, you just don't fit through the door.) Riding a different awesome mount every time you run around Dalaran? Dreams come true?
I love this addon. It's extremly customizable. And I just I love seeing which of my awesome creatures pops out next!

Give me a shrodinger's cat now!

+1000 for Schrodingers cat, cmon blizz!
even though it brings back painful memories of quantum mechanics exams >
Gendou Sep 29th 2010 8:39AM
Half the time you summon it, a (smoking with green plague) cat corpse flops over instead of a live cat.
relmatos Sep 29th 2010 8:43AM
Best companion idea ever. I want one too.

Quantum Particle Physics is beyond my scope of mind.
It isn't physics, it's philosophy!
Therefore my suggestion for a pet is "Plato" or "Emmanuel Kant" :)

My hunters spirit beast name is schrodenger... I always like it when people get the reference. ..

I spent an hour and a half /bow-ing to my Pandaren monk the first night I got him. It just makes me giggle.
Josin Sep 29th 2010 10:31AM
I have to admit though, that my Sen'jin Fetish is probably my favorite, since I wrote a macro to go with it.
Every time I summon it, my character says, "Some people think I have a love of trolls. The truth is, it's just a little Sen'jin Fetish."
AileStrike Sep 29th 2010 8:12AM
I always do like to whip out my one eyed willy in raids, the one i got from the children day's event. Even if it does have a tendency to fall asleep on me when i need it the most.
Ametrine Sep 29th 2010 8:36AM
I hear they have a pill for that.
Elwoods Sep 29th 2010 10:31AM
