Cataclysm: Justice point conversion revised

- Emblems of Triumph = 11.58 justice points (up from 2.75)
- Emblems of Frost = 11.58 justice points (up from 2.75)
- Justice point cap = 4,000 points (around 345 emblems)
- Justice points over cap = 47.5 silver each after patch 4.0.3 (down from 2 gold)
We've revised the Justice Points conversion rate for Emblems of Triumph and Emblems of Frost. When the upcoming 4.0.1 patch goes live, these emblems will be converted into 11.58 Justice Points (up from the previously planned 2.75 Justice Points per emblem). Justice Points accrued above the soft cap of 4,000 will be converted to gold at a rate of 47.5 silver per point (down from 2 gold per point) when patch 4.0.3 goes live.
The previous conversion rate was intended to devalue Frost and Triumph a bit to discourage some amount of farming and hoarding of points before the conversion, but then we came to the conclusion that no matter what we do people would be farming well above the softcap, and we shouldn't try to make it more difficult for them to do so.

Thank. You. Blizz.

I'd also like to thank my crappy ISP; last night, in their infinite wisdom, they decided to spare me the pain of converting my triumphs to heroisms to buy heirlooms by disconnecting me right when I was talking to the currency vendor in the Dalaran sewers.

Indeed. Thank you Blizzard.
It seems my long-winded post on the Suggestion forum was heard!
Although I only asked for an increase in the Frost rate (I didn't like the idea of the value of my hard-earned Frost Badges dropping)...
For those who don't know, in comparision to the cost of Frost gear on the PTR and Bete servers, the old conversion rate devalued Frost Badges to about 1/4 of their worth. 95 frost badges (enough to buy the Frost chest pieces, ect), were worth about 262 JP. The Frost chest pieces cost 1100 JP on the forum, which is a little more than 4x the price. Even Triumph were essentially devalued by half, as all the triumph pieces (Heirlooms included) were in the range of 400-700 JP.
With these new rates, the value of Frost Badges are staying roughly the same (which is good), and the value of Triumph badgets is increasing by a factor I'm not in the mood to try and calculate (it would be largely subjective, based on how you'd choose to define a Triumph badge's value in relation to Frost and/or Justice Points).
While I know some people are going to be furious that Triumphs are essentially being "upconverted" to Frost (at least one subset of hardcore players are going to see this as a devaluation of their hard-earned Frost badges and Frost/ICC gear), a lot of casuals are going to be ectastatic, being able to look forward to buying complete Frost sets simply by farming heroics between now and 4.0.
I'm in the middle. While I do feel slightly irked by the idea of Triumph (essentially) purchasing Frost gear (it's unprecedented, Blizzard has never upconverted existing badges before, and it does make all my time in ICC feel a little devalued), ultimately it's silly to feel that way with Cataclysm on the horizon. Let the teeming masses have some shiny new Tier 10. Heck, it will probably give a boost to the gem and enchant market after 4.0! :D
I will say this: DO NOT BUY HEIRLOOMS BEFORE 4.0. Save your Triumph. Right now it takes 40 Triumph to purchase the cheapest heirloom, right? The cheapest heirloom on the PTR and Beta is about 400 JP. 40 Triumph x 11.58 JP per Triumph = 463 JP. Therefore, save those triumph! Heirlooms will be *slightly* cheaper after 4.0. So unless you need the heirlooms for alts you are leveling *right now*, just hold off. :)

@Finnicks
Why is it that whenever blizz makes a change thats good, some d-bag on the forums or a blog claims that THEY are the one that thought of it. It's pathetic on many levels, but here are the main ones:
a) There is no way to really prove it was your idea. Even if you did have a link to the forums, there is no way to prove it was your blogger id that posted with some random wow account.
b) A lot of times it is so obvious a change that 5 million other people probably commented via the suggestion system for the exact same thing.
c) Stating, "They finally did what I suggested!," like your interested in improving the the game, when it's obvious that your only interested in having random people on some blog think that the person behind some lame blog ID thought of something that blizz implemented. Even if it was true, it's still pretty lame to jump up and down yelling, "Look at me everyone!" The only thing it does is make you look like an attention starved d-bag.
Equally annoying and lame are the people that have to start every sentence, with, "Back in vanilla wow...(fill in the blank with lame annoying story that no one cares about)."

Finnicks, if you've been doing ICC, for a lot of classes, the gear gotten there will be better than the frost gear anyway. It's just the usual great equalizer before Cata.

@shamman22
Anger much? Take a chill pill.
Sorry if I implied that I thought it was "my idea," or that my suggestion was the "one that convinced Blizzard." Apparently my tongue-in-cheek method of expressing joy was ill adviced.
Of course, youu seem to be the only person to take it that way and get offended, judging by the fact that my comment was 100% voted up. Maybe the other people actually focused on the meat my post and didn't automatically nerdrage out over the second and third paragraphs.

@Finnicks
The part I love most is the way you pat your own back over your "long-winded" post on the Suggestion forums with a long-winded post on this forum. You were probably up-voted for the "Indeed. Thank you Blizzard." at the start, then everyone scrolled past the wall of text following.
p.s. It was your third paragraph that made my eyes glaze over and skip past your wall of text. I didn't read the whole thing until I started to reply here.
Angrycelt Sep 29th 2010 12:38PM
Aww crap - you mean now I gotta do math to see if I'm getting a better deal now or then?
But anyway... hey, at least Blizz is realistic enough to know their player base and our min/max tendencies.
Sleutel Sep 29th 2010 6:37PM
"these emblems will be converted into 11.58 Justice Points (up from the previously planned 2.75 Justice Points per emblem)"
Yes, I can see how terribly hard it is to see that 11.58 is larger than 2.75...
jacksworth Sep 29th 2010 11:58PM
Sleutel
maybe he was referring to the gold reward, which got reduced by the same %, so no change
Deathzone Sep 29th 2010 12:39PM
Well then. (Puts on overalls and grabs pitch fork) I'm off to farm. Glad I didn't convert my emblems down for gold like some people did. :)
elvendude Sep 29th 2010 2:19PM
/cry
I traded them down about two days before the announcement.
Ashwan Sep 30th 2010 4:58AM
Depending on your realm economy, it might still make sense to convert frost emblems to primordial saronites now and triumphs downgraded to heroism to buy certain gems.
Keep in mind that each emblem worth of JP over the soft-cap will net you 5.5g
23 Frost will buy you a primordial saronite, so if saronites are worth more than 126.5g on your realm, it makes sense to sell them now.
10 triumph (downgraded to heroism) will buy you 1 ametrine or 1 dreadstone or 1 eye of zul. If any of those is worth more than 55g now then sell gems.
20 triumph (downgraded to heroism) will buy you 1 cardinal ruby or 1 majestic zircon or 1 king's amber. So if those are worth more than 110g sell those.

feniks9174 Sep 29th 2010 12:41PM
Oh i am SO getting capped before 4.0 and buying Justice gear the day Cata goes live.
Michael Sep 29th 2010 12:58PM
In the expansion you can't buy gear with a level requirement until you are that level. This extends to all items. That lvl 85 food the innkeeper has - you can not buy it at lvl 84.
Since pretty much all of the point gear is lvl 85 you won't be buying any of it the day cataclysm is released regardless of how many points you have.
Rob Sep 29th 2010 1:19PM
You know 4000 JP is about 2 level 85 blues right? So...yeah, do what you want with your badges.
My advice has been and still is, dump your badges before 4.0 hits. The amount of stuff you will get come cataclysm in no way shape or form makes up for the huge usefulness of those items now. You can turn it into BOA gear (level 1-80, but still), or straight gold through orbs/PS.
Natsumi Sep 29th 2010 12:42PM
I'm probably still going to convert my 400 or so emblems to Conquest, I have all these badges and not enough gold :p
WTB Badge to Gold Conversion in game :p
Herman Sep 29th 2010 12:56PM
50 silver a badge-5 gold for 10 badges. or you could just buy gems with those badges and sell them.
