Cataclysm: Justice point conversion revised

- Emblems of Triumph = 11.58 justice points (up from 2.75)
- Emblems of Frost = 11.58 justice points (up from 2.75)
- Justice point cap = 4,000 points (around 345 emblems)
- Justice points over cap = 47.5 silver each after patch 4.0.3 (down from 2 gold)
We've revised the Justice Points conversion rate for Emblems of Triumph and Emblems of Frost. When the upcoming 4.0.1 patch goes live, these emblems will be converted into 11.58 Justice Points (up from the previously planned 2.75 Justice Points per emblem). Justice Points accrued above the soft cap of 4,000 will be converted to gold at a rate of 47.5 silver per point (down from 2 gold per point) when patch 4.0.3 goes live.
The previous conversion rate was intended to devalue Frost and Triumph a bit to discourage some amount of farming and hoarding of points before the conversion, but then we came to the conclusion that no matter what we do people would be farming well above the softcap, and we shouldn't try to make it more difficult for them to do so.

Um, last I checked 2.75 x 2 = 5.5 gold and 11.58 x .475 = 5.5 gold
Same gold per badge conversion actually.

"will be converted to gold at a rate of 47.5 silver per point (down from 2 gold per point) when patch 4.0.3 goes live."
Actually.

Boromar said same gold per BADGE, not same gold per Justice Point.
Before
1 badge x 2.75 justice points x 2gold = 5.5g
Now
1badge x 11.58 justice points x .475gold = 5.5005g
same gold conversion per BADGE

It doesn't matter. You guys didn't understand the OP.
Conquest, Valor, and Heroism badges are being directly converted to gold.
He's talking about converting his Triumph down to Conquest, then waiting for the patch to turn them all directly into gold.
What he's talking about has nothing to do w/ convert JP over the cap into gold.
I still agree that you're far better off using your Triumph to buy epic gems and selling those. :P 10 Triumph = 1 orange, purple, or green, all of which go for about 70g on my server. That's 7g per badge, which is quite a bit higher than the badge-to-gold conversion rate. :)

I am in agreement with this post. You're getting more points, showing Blizzard, are trying to increase ease of our current raiders etc.
Amaxe Sep 29th 2010 12:43PM
Well I hope my addon readjusts to the new conversions.
I'm no farmer of badges (all the ones I have were from Coren Direbrew), but I am glad they will be good for something in terms of heirlooms.

Just make the adjustment yourself. If you're using CurrencyConversion, the edits are on line 116 and 123 of the .LUA file (for the badge conversion). I think you just need to change the values that read 20000 to 4750 for the gold conversion over cap, depending on if ONLY Triumph/Frost is being revalued.

Well I'm using the Catacurrencycalculator, but I guess it is the same principle true...

Totally saw this coming. It just made zero sense the way it had been. Glad to see I was right, cause it would have seriously made me question exactly what kind of crack Blizzard was smoking if they had left it that way.
Astemus Sep 29th 2010 1:22PM
I agree. Many people in my guild were just disbelieving that the conversion rate or the item cost was final. I am glad they made this change, because now it is no longer a race to decide what to do with your badges.
Though I am a little sad that I rushed to purchase all the items I absolutely needed before the conversion. All those lazy people get to save their badges and purchase items cheaper after the patch...

Wait, I thought Cataclysm was going to be harder...? :P

And there I was spending my emblems on random things, and now they're worth something again. That'll be pretty easy to farm up with the LFG tool. I queued as a healer last night, and it still took 5-6 minutes to get a tank. And then, it was a tank in a lot of blue gear, who was still actually gearing up (had some initial rough spots, but then did a great job and finding his/her footing). Maybe this will make some queues faster again, and not ignored till the end of the expansion.

So many people are concerned about the 'easy money' from the conversion - Go Farm high end vanilla instances or work the AH..... seems some folks dont ever read Gold Capped or something.... : /
I'm looking forward to it for the chance to gear up some of my toons in the T10 gear just before cata...... and heirlooms. loves them heirlooms.
clundgren Sep 29th 2010 1:29PM
Agreed. If you think that running current instances for emblems to turn into items that you can sell is an efficient way to make money in this game, you really have to go read Gold Capped right now.
Now, soloing old instances for lewtz to auction is a whole other story...
Rob Sep 29th 2010 1:36PM
Doesn't the "easy money" work out to about 5 gold per hour of farming heroics?
If anyone thinks that is a good deal I have bargain basement greys they'd be interested in.
clundgren Sep 29th 2010 2:10PM
Hey, here's a suggestion for a gold capped article for ya, Basil: terrible money-making schemes that nevertheless remain popular.

Assuming the prices for heirlooms on woweiki are correct and do not change, there is a slight advantage to keeping your emblems and buying heirlooms after the patch hits.
40 emblem gear becomes 435 JP (up by a factor of 10.875 )
50 emblem gear becomes 543 JP (up by a factor of 10.86 )
65 emblem gear becomes 706 JP (up by a factor of 10.86)
The emblems themselves go up by 11.58.
So the emblem value goes up slightly more than the cost of the gear (about 6%).

Thanks Ben. This is exactly the info I was looking for.

This doesn't really affect me much, as I already converted most of my emblems into heirlooms, but it's nice to know you don't have to rush to do this before the patch now, those emblems will now convert to an appropriate amount to buy them just as easily. I was seriously rushing to get this done before the patch because of the devaluing, now I see I didn't have to bother, indeed I would have been better off waiting now, but I'm glad I got the task out of the way. I have five new characters planned, and I now have four complete sets of heirlooms for them -- I can take my time on finishing up the last set now, and knowing my own tendency to procrastinate, it's probably for the best that I got feared into getting the task mostly done early, rather than scrambling a week before Cata's release...

Anyone have a link to how much T10 is going to cost after the conversion?
