Cataclysm: Justice point conversion revised

- Emblems of Triumph = 11.58 justice points (up from 2.75)
- Emblems of Frost = 11.58 justice points (up from 2.75)
- Justice point cap = 4,000 points (around 345 emblems)
- Justice points over cap = 47.5 silver each after patch 4.0.3 (down from 2 gold)
BashiokWe've revised the Justice Points conversion rate for Emblems of Triumph and Emblems of Frost. When the upcoming 4.0.1 patch goes live, these emblems will be converted into 11.58 Justice Points (up from the previously planned 2.75 Justice Points per emblem). Justice Points accrued above the soft cap of 4,000 will be converted to gold at a rate of 47.5 silver per point (down from 2 gold per point) when patch 4.0.3 goes live.
The previous conversion rate was intended to devalue Frost and Triumph a bit to discourage some amount of farming and hoarding of points before the conversion, but then we came to the conclusion that no matter what we do people would be farming well above the softcap, and we shouldn't try to make it more difficult for them to do so.

The most costy piece was 1100 points (like pants).
With old conversion (took from mmo counter) that was 400 EMBLEMS OF FROST or 200+200 frost+triumph.
Thats right, FOUR HUNDRED TOTAL. Sure, you could get "5 emblems per boss" but that would've screwed a lot of people who were saving up etc making the "Well heres reason to stick around still, eh? haha...no? oh better change it.."

:O
Well, I'm still hoping to get a few alts in 4p t10 to make leveling a breeze. Not the mention t10 looks pretty awesome. ;-)
Steve Sep 29th 2010 12:51PM
so, when cata drops, won't justice points only by "last tier" aka t10 gear?
Won't t10 gear be pretty useless since it doesn't have mastery?
Or, is there going to be new stuff we can buy with justice points? Like heroic blues level gear?
Fluffywumpki of Kilrogg Sep 29th 2010 12:53PM
The max level vendor blues will be in the 1250-2200 JP per slot range. Being capped will get you at most 2 pieces as soon as you hit 85.
Boobah Sep 29th 2010 1:51PM
The heroic (i346) blues cost (in Justice Points):
950 for offhands
1250 for rings and necklaces
1650 for gloves, shoulders, and belts
2200 for helms, chestpieces, and pants
So at the 4000 point cap you can get a 1650 and either a 2200 or a 950 + 1250, with 150 points left over. That's 346 emblems of Frost and/or Triumph to cap, or 333 to not bother with the extra 150.
Presumably, this matches the amount of JP we'll be getting from dungeon bosses.

So basically they devalued the badges to stop the insane farming binges people were going on.. but instead of ending it, people just farmed double/triple/quadruple as long. Those farmers are gonna have SO MANY points now.. GG you lucky bastards.
prenden2 Sep 29th 2010 1:23PM
Luck doesn't come into it; my farming binges are powered by heavy metal compilations on iTunes! =D
xenothaulus Sep 29th 2010 1:01PM
Well shit. I just bought my t9 pants on my mage too. Oh well, my wife will be happy, she's got 100s of triumphs on her characters.

Have the blues confirmed that all these converted points will stick with us after the transition from Wrath to Cata. If not, there's always the chance of the points going away like our arena points do when seasons end.
Plaguewood Sep 29th 2010 1:21PM
I agree. Just because Blizz has said that JP will purchase blue items at 85 doesn't mean they won't wipe our JP when Cataclysm is released. If someone can find something that says they're not going to wipe our JP at expansion release, please provide the link stating so.
Astemus Sep 29th 2010 1:25PM
I doubt very much they would remove the points, since justice points are now the "old" currency. You can buy a few blue items, whoopty do! Run a heroic or two and you can get the same reward.
If there was an "old expansion" currency, then i would think the justice points we have would move to that, or if they had actually built in 3 tiers of points, old content, last tier content, and current content. As it is now, it's only "old" and "new".
So save without fear.
Narayana Sep 29th 2010 1:27PM
They have confirmed this. The 4.0.3 patch will be the pre-patch to Cataclysm and will be the patch that results in the 4,000 hard cap.
There is a quote (and I’ll see if I can find it) that states that you will be able to buy one ore two pieces of gear with your saved up JP at 85.
Boobah Sep 29th 2010 1:58PM
If the plan was to wipe Justice Points before Cataclysm, there would be two obvious differences:
1) They would've said so outright, to stop the farming, and
2) they just would not have implemented the system until Cataclysm.
And don't forget, you'll be able to farm Justice Points on your new leveling toons in BC heroics/raids, too. There's certainly a point at which lower-level instances stop awarding Justice Points, but I've no idea what it will be; the devs just said that any place that dropped badges/emblems will drop JP instead for level-appropriate characters.
Aris Sep 29th 2010 2:02PM
The original release stated that there's a soft cap at 4,000 points when 4.0.1 drops. This means if you're over 4,000 points, you can't earn any more until you spend points to bring your total below 4,000.
When 4.0.3 drops, anything over 4,000 will be converted to gold at the rate of 47.5 silver per point. So you can save and carry 4,000 points up to 85 with you.
What I'm curious about is if there will be gold compensation for doing what would give you points if you're already capped. I'm guessing not but I've not seen anything one way or the other.
Kuener Sep 29th 2010 1:17PM
Has there been a blue post stating that once Cata releases we will keep our current Justice points and they wont be reset?
I find it ridiculous that they would allow people to save points from a previous expansion. I fully expect and hope that once Cata hits everyone will be at 0 Justice points!
Rob Sep 29th 2010 1:41PM
If you look at the costs that MMO champions posted, you can get about 2 level 85 blues for 4000 JP, which is about 300 badges. So, yeah that's pretty much near worthless. I guess people have to decide if 300 badges is worth tons of epic gems and orbs and PS, or 2 level 85 blues.
One could be cynical and say that Blizz is only allowing this conversion so we wouldn't unsubscribe while we all wait for the expansion. But rest assured, those who stockpiled will have very very little advantage going into level 85 over the rest of us.
Kuener Sep 29th 2010 1:18PM
Darren beat me to the punch!
Darren Sep 29th 2010 1:24PM
Looks like theres a few of us wondering the same thing at least.
Narayana Sep 29th 2010 1:26PM
I know this is intentional, but I am not sure why Blizzard came out with 2 tiers of points instead of 3. I think it is kind of odd that ANYTHING we do at 80 should be able to buy us anything at 85.
I would much rather have seen a 3 tier point system:
Cutting Edge: Conquest Points
Current Expansion, Not Cutting Edge: Justice Points
Prior Expansion and Earlier: Something Else
As it stands, the 2 tier system will always allow us to did our toes in the water of the next expansion. We should be forced to spend our old content points on old gear or simply let them die.
Spelio Sep 29th 2010 1:27PM
My question would be this: Are they converting the badges automatically or is a "turn in" type conversion? If i have triple the amount of badges to hit the JP cap can i just turn in enough badges to hit cap, spend the JP's, and then turn in more badges for more points? If that's the case then there is no stopping the badge farming. With a "turn in" system you could theoretically get all of the available gear as soon as you hit 85.
Not sure if that has been answered yet ....
