Cataclysm: Justice point conversion revised

- Emblems of Triumph = 11.58 justice points (up from 2.75)
- Emblems of Frost = 11.58 justice points (up from 2.75)
- Justice point cap = 4,000 points (around 345 emblems)
- Justice points over cap = 47.5 silver each after patch 4.0.3 (down from 2 gold)
We've revised the Justice Points conversion rate for Emblems of Triumph and Emblems of Frost. When the upcoming 4.0.1 patch goes live, these emblems will be converted into 11.58 Justice Points (up from the previously planned 2.75 Justice Points per emblem). Justice Points accrued above the soft cap of 4,000 will be converted to gold at a rate of 47.5 silver per point (down from 2 gold per point) when patch 4.0.3 goes live.
The previous conversion rate was intended to devalue Frost and Triumph a bit to discourage some amount of farming and hoarding of points before the conversion, but then we came to the conclusion that no matter what we do people would be farming well above the softcap, and we shouldn't try to make it more difficult for them to do so.

Yes, when the next patch hits, the points systems are changing automatically. If you are over cap, you get gold. Look at previous articles for details.

It's active on the PTR and beta when you copy a character over now. You just have Justice Points, and you get mail for all of the pre-Triumph badges and emblems you had, giving you your gold.

It's also worth noting that you won't be allowed to buy gear for level 85 until you are level 85.
aggrazel Sep 29th 2010 1:29PM
I'm still annoyed that Frost is worth the same as Triumph. You'd think they'd be worth a little more, since, you know, they're harder to get.
Syggy Sep 29th 2010 2:01PM
The devaluation of the Frost is on purpose. They are adjusting the values from the perspective of Lv85.
aggrazel Sep 29th 2010 2:16PM
But this is an all in conversion is it not? so its all from the perspective of a level 80. So the frost badges that we worked hard to get at level 80 not 85.
CottonCandi Sep 29th 2010 2:20PM
Devalue plans or not, we are getting ripped off with the conversion as far as Frost Badges are concerned. Crap idea to make them so devalued when they have a soft and hard cap to prevent hording the badges to start with.
Spend all the Frost like there's no tomorrow. Tomorrow Blizz will turn them into Peso's so we won't be bad kids and have them.

More like they're increasing the value of Triumph emblems. What kind of Frost gear can you buy with Triumph emblems right now?
Artificial Sep 29th 2010 5:50PM
This has always been the case. Go to the frost vendor and see how many emblems of triumph you can buy for one emblem of frost. Yup, exactly one. Blizzard has always treated older badges and being 1:1 value to newer ones.

The upscaling makes sense becausse the original conversion rates actually made the Justice Points LOWER in value then the worth of the Emblems.
Originally you would need the Justice Point equivalent of 93 Emblems to buy a piece of Tier gear that currently goes for 90 Emblems.
This new exchange rate now allows you to spend the Justice Point equivalent of 87 Emblems for a piece of Tier that currently goes for 90 Emblems.
(My math is estimated here, but I think I made the point - the original conversion rate was actually a rip-off of the current Emblem gear pricing. Now it's a slight discount. Good times. Thank you Blizz))

How many points are we going to be getting for random dailies, ICC bosses, etc., during 4.0.1 before Cata hits.
RyanZ Sep 29th 2010 1:34PM
Nevermind, further in that thread.
"Yup. We'll be posting a full list of how many JP you'll be getting from each of the different boss/daily rewards... soon."

Blizzard is really, really milking these WoTLK heroics to their last ounce.
Dev 1: How can we make people run more heroics?
Dev 2: Make them drop emblems of valor!
Months later...
Dev 1: How can we make people run more heroics?
Dev 2: Make them drop emblems of conquest!
Months later...
Dev 1: How can we make people run more heroics?
Dev 2: Make them drop emblems of triumph and give them 2 frost emblems per day for their first random heroic!
Months later...
Dev 1: How can we make people run more heroics?
Dev 2: Make them drop the same emblems but raise the conversion rate on the justice points so people will continue to farm them!
Dev 1: Muwahahaha
Dev 2: Muwahahaha

did some math and it is slightly (.005 gold [or 5 copper] more) per emblem to go over-cap and get gold than to convert extra emblems to the lesser ones and getting straight cash.
so it's ~345 frost/triumph to get to cap and you get 5G 50S 5C per emblem after that
Eddy_D Sep 29th 2010 6:49PM
Just FYI..
0.005 Gold = 50 copper, see below.
1 Gold = 100 Silver, 1 Silver = 0.01 Gold
1 Silver = 100 Copper, 1 Copper = 0.01 Silver
so
1 Gold = 100x100 = 10000 copper
and 1 Copper = 0.0001 Gold
Sry for being a math Nazi

@Netherscourge: Your math is more than a little off. Under the old conversion you would have needed 1450+ badges to reach the softcap on Justice Points of 4000. As Items in Cata now average about 1900 justice points (items range from 1600 to 2200 points, excepting neckpieces and libram/relic items which are lower) you would have needed 700+ badges for one item, nowhere near the numbers you need currently (95 frost badges for the most expensive 251ilvl T10 gear). Under the new conversion it only takes, as the article states about 345 badges to reach the soft cap of 4000 points and provided the justice point values for items do not change in cata you can get an item for just over 150 badges on average. Still higher than the current items but significantly lower than the 700+ it required previously.
Depending what you want to get in Cata you could stockpile enough badges now to get 2 or 3 items and hopefully stockpile the badges without wanting to shoot yourself. Under the old rate it would have taken a person well in excess of 250 full dungeon clears (assuming a minimum of 5 badges per clear) to hit the soft cap. At the new rates it would take potentially 65 or less full dungeon clears to reach the soft cap on badges - a number that I'm going to guess people will find much more doable.
Of course, given the drastic increase in the point coversion and the "relative" ease in which a person could hit the soft-cap, Blizzard could even change the conversion rate again if they believe too many people are grinding badges.

This news the day after I frantically finish farming badges and buying heirlooms, trinkets, and relics before the conversion devalues all of my currency. Now everything will be slightly cheaper come 4.0.1. You just can't win trying to stay one step ahead of Blizzard.
Cassie Sep 29th 2010 2:10PM
Okay, taking votes... should I save the badges for JP at 85 and have a slight head start on a couple of blues? Or blow them all on saronite to gear my new 80 with stuff that will be replaced within a few levels? Hmmm....
Pyromelter Sep 29th 2010 2:25PM
I'd just buy saronite and sell them. Here's why:
At level 85, a lot of good epics will be craftables. So the best/fastest way to gear up is to have a lot of gold to be able to buy mats for craftables at 85.
That's my recommendation anyway.

Direct response to EQ2X starter zones full of people waiting for the patch?
