The Classifieds: The uber edition

By intent, we use The Classifieds to share community news among the, er, community. We pick up a little recruiting news, a little general new release information, and whatever odds and ends seem to float across our desk. But the items we get really excited about, of course, are the Random Acts of Uberness.
For better or for worse, the WoW community sometimes gets caught up in a bit of negativity. It's somewhat natural; WoW is a game about progression. Anything we perceive -- rightly or wrongly -- as interference with that progression can create immense frustration. We're passionate about our play. But that can lead to a lot of frustrations and hurtful things.
This is why we love the Random Acts of Uberness so much. It gives us (all) a chance to kick back and celebrate the good news. So, without further ado, let's get to the good news.
Random Acts of Uberness
Helinana of Wyrmrest Accord (US-H) I was in regular Pit of Saron with Helinana when the healer DCed before we engaged Garfrost. The other DPS left the party after it took more than a few minutes in queue with no new healer in sight, but she stayed there with me and gathered up three replacements from her server to come finish the instance with us so I could complete my quests. So thank you to Helinana and friends! -- Roz'jin, Drak'Tharon Employment: Guild recruiting
10-man and disco <Blazon> of Antonidas (US-A) is a medium-sized, social guild that boasts three 10-man raiding teams. We are in need of more raiders who are interested in being a part of a fun and dedicated team in a close and friendly guild environment. When we aren't raiding, Blazon works on leveling characters to 80, grinding achievements and hosting in-game events. To let off steam at the end of the day, we usually end up dancing naked in Stormwind. Please view our website to check us out and apply!
Helpful and relaxed <Vile Slander> of Vashj (US-H) We are a helpful, relaxed guild looking for more people to join us as we raid, get achievements and prepare for Cataclysm. Currently, we have one 25-man group and two 10-man groups running. We are hoping to get another 10-man together for less experienced raiders or alts. If you are interested in joining, talk to Mizri, Gespacio or Almendina in game.
New raiders wanted <Instability> of Dath'Remar (US-A) is looking for new raiders. Instability is a casual 25-man raiding guild, 11/12 ICC. We have recently lost a few raiders to the pre-expansion blues and are seeking new people to continue raiding 25-mans in Wrath and Cataclysm. If you are new to raiding or your own guild is suffering the same, consider joining <Instability>.
Semi-hardcore <Ancient Prophecies> of Chamber of Aspects (EU-H) is a 25-man raiding guild that has recently migrated from Argent Dawn (EU-H). It is an active raiding guild that is looking for mature members who are interested in progressing their characters. If you're looking for a guild that is interested in not just a kill of a boss, but beating their kill timers week in, week out and having fun, then we could be the guild for you.
Strict 10-man <Vicious Intent> of Eldre'thalas (US-H) is looking for good players with good attitudes to raid in Cataclysm. We are a mature, friendly group of people, some of whom have raided together since vanilla. We currently plan to raid Sundays 9 p.m. until 12 p.m. and Tuesdays 8 p.m. until 12 a.m. Eastern. We have no attendance minimums; we only ask that you show up if you sign up, and casual ends at the instance entrance. Visit viciousintent.guildomatic.com for more info and to fill out an application, or look up Zarata or Porcelaina in game. (It's possible that raid time ends at 12 a.m., and it's a typo error; still, check and see! -- Mike)

Wow, I guess you guys loved Frostmourne and Staas' uberness so much you decided to post them a second time! (not that there's anything wrong with that, just thought it was funny staring at the post for 5 minutes trying to decide why I had deja vu.) Look at The Classifieds from 2 weeks ago (Hunter one) if you don't believe me.

Whoops! Thanks for the catch.

wow! what a thrilling article!
/sarcasm
makes me miss the old days, when this article would list WoW drama that would get people talking. oh, but according to wow.com's "internal numbers," their readers would much rather read about some random DK doing a PoS run, or some random guilds who are recruiting on other servers.
incoming comment deletion, because wow.com knows i'm right!

Someone had their grumpy-os this morning.
Rufio Sep 29th 2010 9:33AM
How about this. Wow insider publishes a multitude of articles covering a staggering array of topics everyone will have a t least something that appeals to them. Thus the chances are good that not every single article that appears here will appeal to every single reader. Call it subjectivity if you will. You didn't like/need this one article. Big deal. I guarantee you it was of interest to plenty of others out there. Do what everyone else does and bypass the stuff you don't care about and please leave the /sarcasm back in RL.

While it's true that the new format could use some tweaks, there are certainly ways to criticize without being a jerk. Your comment does not suggest any ways to improve, only "this sucks, go back to the way it was!"
I think this article serves its purpose as the classifieds section, I have to wonder how many people who read this are ever looking for a guild, which makes up the majority of these postings. It is true the old format did garner more interest from me, but I think overall it was damaging to the community to showcase that kind of negative influence. Maybe you could send a few writers out to the different servers and try to elicit some good stories out of people in their home environment.
Just some ideas. I do click this article most of the time (there are columns I do not, for whatever reason) so I don't think it's a complete failure. However, it is a shadow of its former self.

@Rufio
this article discussed a single player on 1 US realm, and guilds on 4 US realms and 1 EU realm. thus the information applied to 6 realms total out of a possible 350 realms (241 US realms, 109 EU English speaking realms, according to http://www.wowwiki.com/Realms )
if this article was of so much interest to the WoW community as a whole, I challenge wow.com to conduct a simple online poll to see how many people actually found this article informative, rather than relying on their mysterious "internal numbers."
love it or hate it, the "drama" in this column's former inception brought us such talking points as Area 52's "roguebow" drama in BC.

@Georgia
U mad bro? (Sis, given that Georgia is a female name, in addition to the state and country)
Don't like it, dont read it next week.

If you feel so enthused about it, your more than welcome to make your own blog about it. I'm sure given your need for having one it would be a massive hit.
icepyro Sep 29th 2010 2:55PM
Then you should submit your own news from the other realms.
I love hearing good news. As the intro pointed out, it's easy to be negative, but it takes someone uber to earn an act of uberness.
Better yet, go forth and be uber and you might end up being mentioned! The more people being uber, the more the column will grow and then you can stop complaining because then this column will be awesome.
What's really sad for you would be realizing at this point in the expansion, this column would likely be even shorter being the drama it was because there is only so many times you can reference wowcrendor's how to win at pugs and raids.

Well, I know one state that's definitely not getting my travel dollars this holiday season.

[H] Harbinger (Gnomeregan-PVE) is a 10 man progression oriented raiding guild looking to replace some members we lost due to expansion blues. We are currently working on Halion and about to return to Ulduar for our Algalon and Herold of the Titans titles. We are striving for realm first come Cataclysm while maintaining our friendly non elitist attitude. If you would like more info please stop by our website.

"We currently plan to raid Sundays 9 p.m. until 12 p.m. "
Holy shit that's like 15 hours!
jkholzsa Sep 29th 2010 2:12PM
Lol. They said they were strict! =P
m@tt Sep 29th 2010 1:19PM
I guess he really does mean it when he says, "casual ends at the instance entrance."
West Sep 29th 2010 12:19PM
15 hour raids mean that the "casual ends at the instance entrance" is pretty serious!
Resident Horrible Sep 29th 2010 12:44PM
Yeah, I'm betting this article had more moments of "uber" in them until reported as a duplicate. Sucks, sorry that happened. Also, I don't discourage the idea of the drama section, but I -do- love the uber moments. If at all possible, I think we might could -add- the drama section as a third part of the article, right? Classifieds are usually pretty long in the newspaper, so it should have different things that interest different people.
Whatever the case, I still enjoy reading them as they are. =) Thanks for the article, see ya next time.

Noticed it's been ages since there have been any "looking for guild" postings. Always guilds looking for people. Maybe the market for people is high, but the market for guilds is low? :3
I would be someone looking for a guild, but I don't think it's going to happen. A semi-progression raiding guild with low/no drama, no swearing or similar bad language, weekend-focused raiding (Friday doesn't count as a weekend here), and has the philosophy of "life before games"? I've come to the conclusion that this combination does not exist, or at least has a "friends and family only" invite policy if so.
So I'll probably only come back at Cataclysm for the leveling game.
Adoisin Sep 30th 2010 2:48PM
What server are you on? Ask around, get info from people you trust and see what may be a good guild for you. You can check the server forums, but they usually give you an idea of the guilds to avoid. If all else fails, post around here. Most folks here are helpful, and can possibly point you in the right direction.
Luregas Sep 30th 2010 5:24PM
Tried posting on my realm forums before (Grizzly Hills, by the way). No such luck. I only got one candidate that was close, but they didn't raid weekends, and were a bit too strict on requiring participation (which made it impossible to join by default anyway =P ).
I'll probably give the Alliance Guild Recruiting forums a shot (once I resubscribe in Cataclysm), but I'm not expecting much. Raid lockouts are not friendly to the person whose schedule only allows raiding on weekends, and what browsing I have done of guilds shows very few weekend only guilds too (before you ask, no, most of them didn't prohibit foul language, and actually guaranteed it would exist).
Like I said, a guild with raiding + no foul language + weekend focus = harder to find than a wild Amur Leopard. O_o
