WoW Insider is available on your Amazon Kindle

So, I bought an Amazon Kindle recently, and it's just the coolest thing. All the books I could ever read, available to me any time, on a crisp, easy-to-read display that doesn't hurt my eyes. "But I don't care about books," you say. "I care about blogs! Specifically, blogs about WoW that are named WoW Insider!"
Well, you're in luck. WoW Insider is available on the Kindle right this very moment, and you can get it one of two ways. The first is to use the experimental browser, accessible from the main Kindle menu under "Experimental"; enter our URL or mobile address (i.wow.joystiq.com). The browser is surprisingly nice for being on an e-reader device, and especially for being in black and white.
The second way is admittedly cooler. You can subscribe to WoW Insider from the Blogs section of the Kindle Store for a small fee, and as long as you have a wireless connection, your Kindle will automatically update your archive of WoW Insider articles as often as we post new articles. Most formatting is intact in the Kindle blog format -- the only thing missing is pictures.
Reading the latest Know Your Lore like it was a book? Now that's technology I can get behind.

I think he means the WoW Insider subscription, which costs $1.99.

I hope you guys get a cut of that. This place rocks. Even though I find some columns absurd, like the 2 bosses enter thing, I spend a lot of time here and hope all the writers/editors are getting paid enough to keep sharing their hard work with the rest of us.

If I wanna be kept up to date on all WoW news on the go (and of course I do, who doesn't?), I've got my phone. But this is pretty cool for those who have these devices. I'm honestly not sold on them yet. I still enjoy holding a physical book in my hands and turning the pages.

For the longest time, I felt the exact same way. I still do, to an extent. Reading is so much more than looking at words on a page...there's an entire tactile dimension to it.
But I've tried them out. A Nook at a BN and a friend's Kindle, and I'm honestly sold. Why? Convenience. As someone who moves around a lot (college student; to dorm, then back home, then back to dorm, etc) carting around all of those books all of the time becomes a pain.
Plus, I'm a lit major so a lot of my texts are stuff in the public Domain, like Shakespeare and whatnot. Free electronic versions beats paying 15-bucks for a physical copy I have to lug around anyday.

@Elyxaar I love my Kindle so much that I do my best to avoid reading a paper book if I can manage it. I'll still buy books I truly love just to have a physical copy, but no more cluttering my house with mass market paperbacks, yay! You can read outside and not worry about the wind, read with one hand and not worry about losing your page or having to turn it, read in the tub (with protection of course) and not deal with soggy pages. That doesn't even go into the features of it.
Kindles are so cheap right now and they have the 30-day return policy so you can try it and send it back if you hate it. It's really a no brainer if you're curious at all. The Nook is okay but I find it a second choice. Navigation is difficult and it's a bit gimmicky.

Kindle Condoms?

I've been doing this for awhile actually. Whenever I had to read in school and I had my Kindle on me, I would open up i.WoW.com and see if there was anything new before I got to reading my book. Great stuff.
Also, I have a little bug report, and I guess I'll post it here sinse I don't know where I would submit such an issue and I guess it's related. When you go to i.WoW.com, it still shows the WoW.com logo and it doesn't redirect you to i.WoW.joystick.com. Not a huge problem, but I just thought I'd point it out to you. :)

Are you still able to view the comments section of blog posts?
How about post a comment? I notice the kindle has a keyboard.
Michael Sacco Sep 29th 2010 8:08PM
You can post comments through the website version, but not the subscribed version. It's stories-only.

Don't forget that the iPhone and iPad both have a Kindle app too, and I'd imagine the Android phones do too. So you can read Kindle stuff without a Kindle.

Sweet! I just purchased the wifi graphite two hours ago (arriving in a couple days) and was wondering if the browser would allow me to read my favorite site, but this is even better. Good timing!
Enigma Sep 29th 2010 8:01PM
Interesting, WoW.com has been available on my iPad since I bought it, and I can see all the pretty pictures and videos.
No story about that.
Hmm.
Querious Sep 29th 2010 10:05PM
I didn't realize that you can view websites on an iPad. Gee thanks Enigma! Any other iDevice that you can read wow.com that was designed for mobile web browsing that nobody knows about?
nigellus Sep 30th 2010 1:58AM
Actually, the iPad isn't made for mobile browsing. You see the full desktop versions of websites, including WoW Insider.

Doesn't it cost money to subscribe through the Kindle store?
Kakume Sep 29th 2010 8:15PM
"This title is not available for customers from your location in:
Europe"
This makes me very sad when it happens.
Michael Sacco Sep 29th 2010 8:20PM
At least you can still set a bookmark in the web browser!
Neyssa Sep 30th 2010 5:08AM
exactly what I wanted to say... Poor Europeans we always get this kind of treatment. I just want to order a Kindle from Amazon for my own Christmas present, but I will miss many things from it available for americans.
Kakume Sep 30th 2010 8:41AM
I know, I know, you're right, being able to read the site the way I read it is good enough. It works fine.
It's just... and this isn't something that it's fair to lay at the feet of WoW Insider, but this happens a lot, a hell of a lot. I adore the kindle app, I love it to bits, and yet it would be considerably more useful if I were able to buy more of the stuff that's out there.
The regional restrictions end up breaking the good stuff of recommendations, be it a post on WoW Insider, or Amazon's own recommendations system. The field of goodies that you see is not the same field of goodies that I get.
I've no doubt that the size of the market they are serving is good enough for Amazon, and I'm sure that you guys will work with whatever you can get. I'd do the same. So the only lever I have is to point out that what you're encouraging your users to look at, it can't be reached by some of your users - in the hope that maybe you can bring that news upward, and point out that every time you promote this stuff, as long as it's restricted, it makes some of your users sad.

huh I read this post on my nook
