I'm from Germany. And my college bought the kindle 3g. But 3g only works for Wikipedia.com and the amazon book store. And many books in the kindle are not available for our region (e.g. wow insider) :(Don't take me wrong, I would like the Kindle, if I have the same features as a German customer as a US/UK customer. The other disadvantage is that it doesn't support the ePub format, which is more common in German eBook stores. And the pdf support could be better too imo.And you can't resell the eBooks once bought over amazon. They are bind to your amazon account and can be even deleted from amazon, if you piss them off.I'm still not sure, if I buy it. Maybe and than I use calibri to convert the eBooks in kindle format.
