The Queue: Yes, kittens again

Don't like kittens? Too bad, I've got a room full of them, plus enough pictures of them to wallpaper the Taj Mahal.
Nyold asked:
I have a question about mastery system. A lot of the description says something like "each point of mastery increases the damage by an additional 2%." Does this mean each mastery RATING found in gear, or is there another conversion from mastery rating to mastery skill (kinda like how crit rating and crit percentage is)?
Mastery works like most other ratings in that there's a conversion from the points you have on gear (rating) to the effect you see on your character window (skill). The formula varies from spec to spec.
Xues asked:
I might have missed this, but how are talent points going to be distributed when leveling? Every two levels?
You get a trainable ability every even level up to 80, after which you get one every odd level. You get a talent point every odd level up to 79, after which you get one every level.
Rioriel asked:
I have a question regarding CE pets and codes that came up in a guildie Twitter conversation. If I were to pre-order the Collector's Edition and -- concerned that it would arrive late -- also pick up a normal copy on release day from which I use the activation code on Battle.net so I can start Cataclysm ASAP, am I able to input the CE code at a later date to receive the CE pet ... like an upgrade?
Hope you can clear that up for me, or any readers who experienced a similar situation with TBC or Wrath. -- Rioriel, The Sha'tar (EU)
Yes, you can call Blizzard billing to upgrade your account from a standard one to Collector's Edition.
Terethall asked:
Is the Scepter of the Shifting Sands quest line still in the game? I'm guessing it isn't, what with Azuregos moving around and what-not.
It doesn't look like it is, but there's still time for Blizzard to change stuff, if it decides to, before Cataclysm launches.
Clint Rice asked:
Has Blizzard said anything about providing vanilla owners anything to make up for the loss of everything it has taken away from them? As it stands right now, a level 60 player on a vanilla account can have a character that can at least get the 51-point talent in a particular tree. They also have the choice of several level 60 raids to run; they lost two with Wrath (Ony and Naxx) and they will be losing another come Cataclysm (ZG). I understand that Blizzard wants to sell expansions and make money on those sales, but right now it seems to just be slowly breaking a game that people paid money for and continue to pay for on a monthly basis. I understand that the old world is almost completely re-done, but at the same time, Blizzard seems to be taking the Sony route and removing features that you paid for after the fact.
Yes -- you get an entirely new 1-60 experience in vanilla regardless of whether you're buying Cataclysm or not, so it's easier and more fun to hit that six-year-old, obselete-for-three-expansions level cap.

Re-posting this from the 10th page of the last queue (as if anyone reads that far into the comments :P)
It’s been said several times and in several places, things might be a bit out of balance when 4.0.1 hits because everything's balanced around level 85. so from anyone with Beta/PTR experience, which class is going to be the most OP when the pre-cata patch hits?
Knob Oct 1st 2010 2:10PM
The numbers pass has not yet occurred on the beta, so there's no way to answer that at the moment.
Saeadame Oct 1st 2010 2:16PM
I'm sure OP-ness will be half related to how many new mechanics a class has to get used to. If a class has only gained one or two new mechanics at this point, they will probably have a much better learning curve than the classes with crazy new mechanics to get used to like... boomkins, paladins, etc.
Oh and healers who suddenly have to do DPS for mana regen. That'll take some getting used to.
Leejin Oct 1st 2010 2:18PM
I DID know that Hunters (Specifically BM Spec) were terribly OP. The most recent Beta Batch (Codename: Sparkles) really nerfed us again. Besital Wrath went from doing 50% extra damage to just 25%. Soooo pissed!!
Westoya Oct 1st 2010 2:30PM
Leejin, you're behind the times again.
Brett Porter Oct 1st 2010 2:33PM
All of them yet none of them. Really, quite a silly question to ask at this point, considering what you even acknowledged in your original statement. >.>
Ikarus Oct 1st 2010 2:48PM
"All of them yet none of them" thank you master Yoda.
Let me clarify, I'm curious as to who will be rocking the casbah from 4.0.1 to cata release. If we're still waiting on the numbers pass, then I'll probably have to wait for that answer.

He wants to go ahead and roll his 3.0 ret pally today so he won't be behind the times pwning n00b5

Actually, My Priest will be my main. I'm just curious who I need to watch out for.

@ Talkingmike
lol...that's not a picture of me. Just one I thought was funny. While equally pasty white, I lack the copious amount of chest hair and mullet.

DKs and Affliction Warlocks both seem to be doing very well. Everyone's got SOMETHING totally out of balance, though.
clundgren Oct 1st 2010 5:03PM
Not sure why all the downrating: it's an interesting question, if entirely speculative at this point.
In the interest of speculation, I think Saeadame is on the right track: classes with radical changes to core design will probably seem underpowered at first as players get the hang of them, while classes that essentially just get new toys but no fundamental change to mechanics will adapt quickly and have immediate success.
So I forsee much wailing (even more than usual) from the paladin community, and...I dunno...mages being seen as ridunculously OPed. And I'm pretty good at predicting these things.
Ikarus Oct 1st 2010 5:54PM
Good feedback Clundgren. I'm not sure what all the down rating was about either. Just a question of curiosity. I think you and Saeadame are probably pretty close to the mark on how things will stand. I'm looking forward to all the changes. It a lot of ways it's going to be like playing a whole new game.

Ikarus, there's something you need to understand about WoW PvP: everyone is overpowered, therefore no one is. Ret pallies have served to be no more difficult than other classes for my frost mage throughout Wrath; it all depends on how well you play your favorite OP class. Ret pallies just *seemed* the most OP because it really isn't hard to figure out how to play one well (just click whatever comes off cooldown and use your procs). Most classes aren't so simple, but when played right, are just as OP.

The video's pretty old, but I feel the concept holds true today. :)

On this part:

Yes, you can call Blizzard billing to upgrade your account from a standard one to Collector's Edition.
You don't even need to call them. Last time I called, they just said go to acct. management - and enter the code in. I did that for both Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King.
Skarn Oct 1st 2010 2:25PM
Yep, you can just upgrade your account to a CE version on the account
management page. Belfaire's been out of it awhile. ;)
It's also important to note that when you upgrade to a CE, the
original non-CE code is essentially lost. You don't get it back.
niko Oct 1st 2010 2:25PM
still seems like an incredible waste of money. It's not like you get that standard edition key to use on another account or whatnot.
Siorra Oct 1st 2010 3:48PM
I was impatient and did exactly this with Wrath of the Lich King. It may seem like a waste of money, but when you REALLY want a CE copy, but it hasn't arrived yet, you'll find that you also REALLY don't want to be left in the dirt with levelling. Might seems a bit drastic, but if people can fork out God-knows how much for an imaginary horse that sparkles, getting to play the expansion with everyone else seems way more worth the price!

"You don't even need to call them. Last time I called, they just said go to acct. management - and enter the code in. I did that for both Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King."
No. Do not follow that bit of advice.
CALL THEM.
If you do the upgrade over the phone and request it, they will give you a standard edition CD key back via email to replace the one your collector's edition key is overwriting. I bought the CEs of both BC and Wrath last year and upgraded my account over the phone with Blizz. They emailed me standard keys for both editions.
You can use these keys yourself for another account, or pass them on to somebody else.
