Breakfast Topic: Let's talk about fun ways to die

Yes, when we hear the graveyard music, we often indulge in various expressions of nerd rage. However, there is no denying that there are some cool, funny and emblematic ways to die, both throughout the leveling process and in the endgame. Who has not gotten stomped by the Fel Reaver in Hellfire Peninsula? Were you ever pwned by Hogger? And what about all those times when your famous last words were, "I'm a _____
My characters have met their deaths in the elevator of the Undercity, been shot out of the sky near Alliance camps in Outland and steamrolled under various groups of mobs in Stranglethorn Vale. One of my favorite deaths occurred when my husband and I rolled Forsaken toons together. I rolled a warrior, he rolled a rogue, and we had fun roflpwning low-level mobs in our BoA gear. We found our way to Silverpine Forest, and I noticed that one of the nearby worgen had a different skin color than the others. Of course, being the compulsive silver-elite-killer that I am, I immediately targeted the mob, only to discover that it was a gold elite -- a level 20 Son of Arugal. I shouted and we ran, avoiding the mob the first time, only to have it pat up behind us and kill me a few minutes later. Darling hubby got away (stupid rogues -- always run when there's a fight).
One of my more shameful deaths occurred after playing chicken with the ground on my level 80 druid. The most exciting part of this game is wondering if there is enough lag at the moment that you click the flight form button that you'll end up dying anyway. I was flying over Dalaran and told my hubby, "Hey, watch this!" As he stood at the bank, I proceeded to fall through the air
Sure, we all die in raid wipes and in PvP -- but what about the neat ways to die in the game? What has been your favorite or most hilarious death in the World?

While flying around Nothrend on my druid I would click out of flight form to fall at flight speed then go back into flight form over and over....even used an innervate once. Kept it up until I was OOM and didn't realize it. Fell to my death out of Northrend bounds and ended up having to spirit rez. Never shifted out again until I made sure I had either mana or an innervate

I sometimes shift out to just see how many GCD's I can use before I shift back. Or die. Ya' know, whichever comes first.

I do this all the time. I did it a while back while flying to wyrmrest temple, but i had a small lag spike. I didn't shift back into flight form in time.

My favorite was just a few days ago on the PTR. My group finished Heroic Halls of Reflection and as our Shaman ran up the wooden stairs to board the skyship, the ship decided to plummet 80 yards or so down to the floor of Icecrown. Our Shaman didn't notice in time and ran right off the stairs and didn't catch up to the ship until it was too far a fall to survive. Luckily he could Reincarnate and open the treasure chest to get our loot :P

I've got a simple dismount/flightform macro. Made it when we were doing naxx, we'd all be hanging out on aerial mounts and I'd be on my bronze drake. "Oh, you just have a bronze, I got Whatever"
"oh yeah, do this"

"I hate you"

Those self-inflicted deaths have always been my favorite. Y'know, Life Tap, Shadow Word: Death, the wrong trinket use on some of those more fun vanilla trinkets. But I think my personal favorite is from watching our pallies constantly Divine Intervention of GM or MT. I'm not sure if it's there, but I'd love to see if pallies have a "Times used Divine Intervention" on their statistics page :p

Personally, as a paladin, that's one of my favourites.
"oops I'm falling. i might die. olol, bubble"
*Divine intervention*
"crap"

The best part of DI? No repair costs. And people say Blizz doesn't support self-sacrifice...

Hunters are the master of self inflicted death. At least since our disengage gave us a "propel yourself wildly in a direction you probably can't see properly" button. My personal favorite so far has been disengaging off the LK's stupid platform.

i saw a warlock do a version of this once
portal up - ask a priest for levitate - jump off - teleport
then some clever mage asks to see it again.....

My favorite would be a botched attempt at the old "cast water walking on a falling friend" move that was so popular in Vanilla and for the drop in ToC. The problem came up when I missed clicking my intended target, and then the "auto-target self" option became my demise.

Along the same lines, it was when my guild first kill the twin val'kyr in ToC-25. The floor broke and we started falling......and the DK hit Path of Frost.....*SPLAT* followed by various death-sound emotes from all characters, and there was much laughter on vent.

Kinda did the same thing on my shammy i water walked everyone in raid as we fell I exclaimed okay who can click off water walking. Only 5'people lived

Ah, as an engineer, I always have my parachute cloak on. I love being able to use it whenever I can, including dismounting at random intervals and popping it. Sometimes, however, I pop it WAY to early.
It takes me about 15 seconds to figure out that that last 15 seconds isn't just going to be enough to get me to the ground.
It's kinda exciting though, a gamble.
My favorite way to glide is running out of Dalaran sewers. Sometimes I can ground, and sometimes I splat. It's always fun though.
Daedalus Oct 4th 2010 8:18AM
That's actually the source of my favorite death: I was exploring Winterspring, and managed to get up on a cliff in Darkwhisper, overlooking Azshara. I figured: "Hey, why not?" and took a running leap, my finger carefully positioned over the button to hit my parachute. As I moved the mouse slightly, to get a better angle for a screenshot, my hand slipped, hitting the parachute just a few seconds into the dive. I drifted down, outward, watching the seconds tick away on the buff, then fell for what seemed like days.
It's amazing how long a drop that is...

Thanks to Olaf's All Purpose Shield and Evonice's Landin' Pilla I've done the same thing many times on my warrior. In fact, I reckon those two things have killed me more often than saved me.
I just hope Evonice's Landin' Pilla can still be obtained in Cata.

I used that for almost a minute of pure free-falling, but fortunately, timed it right. Flew to the sky ceiling over Storm Peaks, directly over the Engine of the Makers. Began dropping. If I recall correctly it was about 30 seconds before I hit the surface level of Storm Peaks, and then another 15 or so until I saw the bottom of the Engine rushing at me. Waiting as long as I could, I then hit my 'chute cloak, and coasted safely to the ground, a minute later than when I'd started my free-fall.
WoW Base Jumping. Gotta love it.
Natsumi Oct 4th 2010 9:09AM
I've done that too. One of my favorite things is to use my Nitro Boosts and then jump off something and hit my Cloak. Well, this week the Daily was Jaraxxus, so I used my Wormhole Generator and went to Icecrown (as engineers know this takes you almost all the way to the Tourney, you end up on a tiny ledge in the mountains just to the west). I did my normal Turbo Chute Jump and was quickly on my way to the Raid.
One problem, you can't make that jump if you hit your chute right away, you fall just too far to live. I remembered this with about 10 seconds left and I was still above the tree tops, it really has been too long since I a) went to Trial of the Crusader and b) played my engineer for anything other than dailies and holidays. lol
