Cataclysm release date set for December 7

Press ReleaseIRVINE, Calif., Oct 04, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) - Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announced that World of Warcraft(R): Cataclysm(TM), the highly anticipated third expansion for the world's most popular subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game*, will be released starting on December 7, 2010. The expansion will be available on DVD-ROM for Windows(R) XP/Windows Vista(R)/Windows(R) 7 and Macintosh(R) at a suggested retail price of $39.99 and will also be offered as a digital download from the Blizzard Store. A special Collector's Edition packed with bonus items will be available exclusively in retail stores for a suggested retail price of $79.99.
"Cataclysm includes the best content we've ever created for World of Warcraft. It's not just an expansion, but a re-creation of much of the original Azeroth, complete with epic new high-level adventures for current players and a redesigned leveling experience for those just starting out," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "With the help of our beta testers, we're putting on the final polish, and we look forward to welcoming gamers around the world to enjoy it in just a couple of months."
The first two World of Warcraft expansions, The Burning Crusade(R) and Wrath of the Lich King(R), each shattered PC game sales records upon their release.* In Cataclysm, the face of Azeroth will be forever altered by the return of the corrupted Dragon Aspect Deathwing. Players will explore once-familiar areas of the world that have now been reshaped by the devastation and filled with new adventures. In an effort to survive the planet-shattering cataclysm, two new playable races - worgen and goblins - will join the struggle between the Alliance and the Horde. As players journey to the new level cap of 85, they'll discover newly revealed locations, acquire new levels of power, and come face to face with Deathwing in a battle to determine the fate of the world.
The beta test for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is currently underway. Visit the official Battle.net(R) website at http://www.battle.net to set up a Battle.net account and sign up for a chance to participate. How could Blizzard release Cataclysm on the date of Pearl Harbor!! I was going to spend the entire day in day in complete silence on a mountain!! I am offended!!11oneoneone

I see all realms are down tomorrow. Not sure if this means patch or not.
I'm just hoping that when we do get 4.0.1 it won't be too much bigger than what we have already got (at 77% of bandwidth for the rolling 30 days)

You know what's insensitive? It's this bratty and child-like mentality that the world stops or should stop for each and every tragedy and event that happens in this world.. no matter what span of time.
It is nothing against the events themselves, each one merits it's own respect but to assume that world deserves to stop and people should be nothing but somber on any day because of any significance is selfish, insensitive and laughable.
With how storied history is, each and every day is probably one of mourning for someone else. With that mentality we should be somber and sad each and every day, because doing anything that is pro-life, being happy and doing things you enjoy is horrible and bad!
Yawn. Cancel your account and if each and every decision is going to make you think it's made to personally offend you, decide how healthy your life mindset is.

The irony is, you are acting just as petulantly as the people you are denouncing. The arrogant self righteousness just drips off your post... and for what?
Just so you can say you disagree with their POV?
Fine, disagree. But don't make an ass out of yourself doing so.

In response to the "If you're offended, don't buy it that day" comments...
I don't think this is the point of those who object.
What seems to be the point is that for some people this is a somber day which seems to them to be forgotten. The release on this day itself would be the problem, not that they would have to buy it on this day.
It seems that for most people, this day is now viewed as one of history. I think in a few years people will probably look at 9/11 the same way (it already seems to be happening in some places).
I'm not here to pass judgment on what should or should not be remembered here. We don't celebrate it as a national day of mourning here, so Blizz probably didn't feel bound to bypass this day.
What *does* bother me about this whole discussion is one group of people who do not care take offense that someone does care and voices their view.
Hell, if someone thinks it is in dubious taste, they have the right to say so. If they disagree, they have the right to do so. The line is crossed however when one side starts insulting the other side, or treating them rudely.
That line has been crossed already in this forum, and it is being crossed by certain people who "take offense at offense," saying those who think 12/7 should still be a solemn day are "spoiled" or the like.
It seems to be pretty insensitive for certain people to argue "Oh, well Event [X] happened on this date in 1257, but we don't care about that!"
That's asinine. For some people, 12/7/41 is within living memory, and the logical fallacy here is called "False Analogy."
Blizzard hasn't disgraced the memories of those who died at Pearl Harbor...
...but I think a few of the posters on this forum should be ashamed with their statements that indicate they don't care and people shouldn't care.
Now, as for the foreign market and the claim of irrelevance for them:
If WoW was created by a Japanese company, the days of celebration and mourning of Japan would be relevant to a Japanese Blizzard even if not to America. For example, forget about getting a release January 1-3.
Likewise if Blizzard had existed in England or France. It would show gross insensitivity for a person of another country to say, "Well, that doesn't affect us, so hurry up with the damn game."
Now as I said in an earlier post, I am not offended by Blizzard releasing the game on 12/7. But I am offended at how certain posters are responding to those who are.

Actually the date is 1957 when the levees broke. I am from Holland and have heard many stories from my grandparents. Which still remember it. Ppl care to much about dates. The bad thing is THAT it happened. Not WHEN. ;)
blazenblue Oct 4th 2010 11:54PM
1953 not 57 :/
Essential Chicken Oct 4th 2010 10:25PM
Aww come on, release it during my school leavers week why don't you.
Not to mention after that I'm leaving the country.
...THEN Christmas.
Well, there's always next year :)

Ok, has anyone seen the pattern, a Cataclysm is a math patern. Let me break it down:
12/7/2010
ok so we take 1+2 = 3/ +7 / = 10
This has been planned out from the start. We play a game that revolves around Math, and they wanted to prove that every event weather it be 2012 and the end of the mayan calendar to our beloved game makes a simple math problem. We are headed for:
Cataclysm
Time to wake up and see math is the answer to our lives.

Something I recommend folks who pre-ordered from Amazon, if you haven't already, to go back and edit your shipping option. When I pre-ordered last week the only options were free shipping (5-8 days), Super Saver (3-5 days) and 2nd day and Overnight.
When I went back after I got the email the release date has been set (knew it here first) there was a new option, Release Date Delivery. It was only $0.99, compared to the Overnight option for $10, and it would deliver by release date. It's not available everywhere, but thankfully I live in a big city where it's available.
Check it out!
