The Daily Quest: Four point oh, dear

WoW Insider's on a Daily Quest (which we try to do every day, honest) to bring you interesting, informative and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.
We know it's coming. It's just around the corner -- maybe even as soon as next week, who knows? That's right, patch 4.0.1 is looming ever closer on the horizon, and with the patch comes a complete revamp and overhaul of every single class in the game. Are you going to adapt or curl up into a ball and cry? Let's see what the blogosphere has to say about the upcoming madness:
- Tree Bark Jacket has a handy guide on how to heal in the upcoming patch.
- Righteous Defense has everything you need to know about prot and 4.0.1 at level 80.
- Gray Matter talks about the new "Smart Eclipse" mechanic for Moonkin.
- Lastly, For the Bubbles has an informative flowchart for feral tanking, live servers vs. Cataclysm.

I'm gonna give my self a lobotomy so that I won't notice the new talent trees and how Blizzard thinks we're too dumb to spend our own points.
Eli Oct 4th 2010 9:01PM
It's not about them thinking we're dumb, their new philosophy is "why put talent points in that everyone is going to take because it's a flat dps increase, instead of making talent points give you new and interesting things that make your spec unique."
It's the whole "making you feel like you really play a (spec) (class)" as soon as you hit level 10.
Russell Oct 4th 2010 9:43PM
Yes, because Blizzard's policy of making flexible talent trees to avoid using cookie cutter builds for every single spec, every single time -- that's too dumb to spend your own points, right?
You have it backwards, my small-minded, insecure friend.

"I'm gonna give my self a lobotomy..."
That obviously worked well the last time.

I scrolled down to read comments and there weren't any :(

I have been looking forward to the daily quest to share with you guys my most proud Blog post in months, it's been copy-pasted to the US and EU official WoW Cataclysm forums after getting 10 pages of positive discussion out of the usually salty MMO Champion crowd.
"The Culture shock of 5-man Heroics"

Do enjoy. :)

It was a good read, and while being a wrath-baby myself as far as heroics/raiding goes, I agree with a lot of your hopes and speculation with the next level of heroics in cata.
PictoKong Oct 4th 2010 9:38PM
Yup, definitive good read, looking foward to more challenge from 5 mans, still, DM in 2.5 hours, it seems long to me.. (hope people get to learn the fight so it only takes 45 mins-1hour max)

Good read.
Having played WoW since the first day of Vanilla and raiding all through-out Vanilla and BC, WotLK was a rather huge let down in terms of 5 man difficulty. Things are looking up though, and we may return to the days of old, when having Epics was just that. Epic.

I seriously doubt we're going to see 4.0.1 go live tomorrow or even next week. I hope it doesn't. I guess we'll see, though...

Thank you for the plug!

Hey, just thought I'd drop by and say my long-coming list of the ten quests I feel must be done before cataclysm, complete with guides and pictures, is up on my website over at http://aeodyssey.blogspot.com/2010/09/questes-well-that-about-sums-it-up.html .

Considering I'm a blood DPS death knight who's losing the only spec he's ever known...I'm just going to be in the corner. In the fetal position. In a pool of my own tears.
NighttimeApparition Oct 5th 2010 1:32AM
I feel your pain. Though my DK is not my main, I will miss Blood DPS. On that note, I find Unholy fun, once you get used to it.
People say Frost is fun. You could try it.
Or Tanking, I here Tanking will be fun and easy in Cataclysm... Oh wait... On second thought, the fetal position corner thing doesn't sound so bad.
As for me, I'll be playing my Rogue and CCing everything. And dying, a lot.
Klerud Oct 5th 2010 7:13AM
As a fellow Blood DPS, all I can say is: try Unholy! It's actually not that hard. You just go a bit longer without applying diseases, and change Death- and Hearth Strike for Blood- and Scourge Strike. Dump Runic Power with Death Coil. Not all that unfamiliar, really. Just remember to whip out your ghoul.

I really enjoyed Tree Bark Jacket's guide, definitely bookmarked for when Cata comes out.
Keeva Oct 5th 2010 12:35AM
Thanks! :)
Tirrimas Oct 4th 2010 11:31PM
Welll...I can't say I'm EXCITED to have to re-learn how to play all my toons. However, I don't think it'll be as awful as some make out.
Run an instance you can solo, one perhaps that's a bit of a challenge, and you'll work out the kinks in your playstyle.
You guys are gonna enjoy the pre-Cata events.

I sympathize with the Blood DPS DKs who are bemoaning the loss of their beloved tree. Blood DPS was my favorite thing about the Death Knight class, although I have always enjoyed blood tanking, too. In general, I think the whole "three DPS / three Tank trees of the Death Knight class" scheme was the greatest thing I have ever seen in WoW, and I am going to miss that versatility and uniqueness to the class.
That being said, my Death Knight was never more than one of my alts, and I am really not looking forward to the changes being brought upon my Prot. Pally main. I am completely and totally happy with the functionality of all three of the Paladin trees as of right now (currently specced Prot MS / Ret OS), and am not looking forward to feeling like a relative nab whilst tanking, in comparison to the complete and total control I feel like I have over my spells and abilities now.
I suppose, in general, I am just opposed to change, which will most likely just get me downrated and called ignorant. I imagine that the fact that I am just now getting to the level of raiding that I always wanted to be at means that I most likely feel very different about the incoming changes than raiders who have been farming ICC for the past 6 months and are bored stiff. Having started playing the Warcraft series of games with WC3 and Frozen Throne, however, the WotLK expansion pretty much epitomized all that is great and awesome about Warcraft lore for me, and I am doubtful that Cataclysm will be able to match that experience for me.
