The Daily Quest: Four point oh, dear

WoW Insider's on a Daily Quest (which we try to do every day, honest) to bring you interesting, informative and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.
We know it's coming. It's just around the corner -- maybe even as soon as next week, who knows? That's right, patch 4.0.1 is looming ever closer on the horizon, and with the patch comes a complete revamp and overhaul of every single class in the game. Are you going to adapt or curl up into a ball and cry? Let's see what the blogosphere has to say about the upcoming madness:
- Tree Bark Jacket has a handy guide on how to heal in the upcoming patch.
- Righteous Defense has everything you need to know about prot and 4.0.1 at level 80.
- Gray Matter talks about the new "Smart Eclipse" mechanic for Moonkin.
- Lastly, For the Bubbles has an informative flowchart for feral tanking, live servers vs. Cataclysm.

Really hoping for the patch to come out tomorrow. I'm kinda excited to test out all the new holy paladin spells and all that jazz, but if the patch ends up coming out next week, that'll just give me more time to finish Dead Rising 2.

I'm gonna be pretty bummed at any time once 4.0.1 hits Live, just because I know Hunters have been fundamentally changed (4 years of using Mana, and now Focus...), but I also hope it hits Live ASAP, so we can get a grasp on the changes before December 7.
Not that I'm not excited to see the Twilight's Hammer stuff setting up for Cata, because the thing I want to see soon is the decade of events that occur between 4.0.1 and the "present-day" of Cataclysm. That's 10 years of Lore to catch up on (I don't think that novel that's coming out about it will completely fill us in, but it's pretty obvious that some important stuff just can't be properly explained in-game, like the more detailed things in the 'Stormrage' novel).
I'm still excited, of course. A whole world's worth of stuff is about to hit us, just as we've needed for some time :)

With the coming of the Cataclysm and the changes of the old world, a friend of mine has been gathering data on all the rare spawns of Classic WoW, including loot, lore, abilities, if it's tameable, and speculation for some lesser-known rares. Sort of like a photo-safari in game to seek out the less common mobs that may or may not be vanishing or changing soon.

Without using any addons, just visuals and Hunter tracking, Glimpses of Azeroth hunts down any and all rarespawns to post on a semi-regular basis. This blog started back in March, and while there's still a list to post, DS is down to just a handful of old world rares to screenshot.

I'm normally very able to adapt, that is of coarse after I've spent at least an hour sulking about the loss of personal favorite things about my chosen classes; Every class gets their time in the sun.
Things I liked: MOAR PETZ!
Its not all tears of sorrow in my house of for players whom all play hunters at least as an alt. No there where tears of Joy at the idea of MOAR PETZ!!! On the PTR I ran about the world pet shopping, re-collecting all those pets dear to my heart that I just couldn't keep based on the necessity for other creatures; I.E. a wolf over a cool looking WindSerpent. So while this patch was devastating to some classes it was kind to others. I am looking forward to 4.0.1 and have my pet nabbing path drawn on paper!
This Gripe: The Loss of Tree Form
Now I know blizz made up for the loss of the bonuses given by the form by tweaking the other spells but it's not really about the loss of God status, its about the loss of the Form, you know... what makes druids different from other non morphing classes. My question was why Cats, Bears and Moonkins got to keep their forms and the Trees can only be a tree every 3 min... Will the Resto druids of the world adapt? I for one defiantly will try!

It looks like Setup is gone from the subtlety tree, and I'm going to miss it. So much. It came in handy when I was disarmed and couldn't generate combo points any other way. Or when I deliberately disarmed myself for fun. I whiled away a glorious afternoon once killing elementals with a fishing pole, popping Evasion, and turning the points generated into Slice-and-Dice. And in a serious fight, popping an evasion and a Ghostly Strike made me nearly unhittable while generating a buttload of CPs in a crisis.
...Oh god Ghostly Strike is gone too. I am going to miss Ghostly Strike SO MUCH.
Blizz wants me to stop ducking and start BLEEDING things! I don't know how to bleed things! AAAAAAAH! (joins the "curl up into a ball and cry" camp)
...I'm sure I'll get used to it, and it will rock, but right now... let me wallow...

I, for one, am going to mourn the loss of the Hybrid. Survivadin and Premed/Mut, we knew ye well.

I wrote about my thoughts on what healing priest builds might want to look like when 4.0 comes, and some comments on the talents I'm unsure about.
Disc ->http://jinxedthought.blogspot.com/2010/09/discipline-priest-cataclysm40-talent.html
Holy ->http://jinxedthought.blogspot.com/2010/09/holy-priest-cataclysm40-talent-build.html
For some reason the disc post is way more popular. Are more people aiming to be disc in Cata? :O I know I am ^^

Yelling on the Internet is a blog focused around guild and raid leadership. Our most recent article discussed some things to consider doing in preparation for Cataclysm, and previous posts have begun to look at the guild achievement system and guild leveling.

So, to be clear, is the pre-Cata event happening with 4.01 or is it going to happen 4.03? I would just like time to focus on ironing out new rotations and such before the event.

Possible article for next time. It's a Q&A on the perils of Cataclysm for guilds!

I am one of what I am sure are many mega-guild members not happy about the dark side of Patch 4.0.1 (the hard cap on guild membership). So here's a link to my explanation on why Blizzard is not being honest about their reasoning for that change. I'd be interested to see what others of more prominence in my guild (alea iacta est) and others have to say.

Hi guys,
I've done a guide for Protection Warriors at 80 in 4.0.1/4.0.3, can take a squiz at:
http://funingames.wordpress.com/2010/10/02/prot-warrioring-at-80-in-4-0/
There is also a video supplement to go with it which is linked in the guide itself, but if want to check it out directly can find it here:

Hope it is of some use to someone. :)

Have been informed should have directly linked to the blog rather than the article. Sorry!
It's not a terribly difficult conversion to make, but simply for the sake of convenience, direct link to the blog itself:
