One of the most iconic comedy routines of all time is Who's on first? by Abbott and Costello. It was a groundbreaking performance that would provide a fast-paced, dialogue-driven comedy style for decades. BroncoTV's Who's the tank? clearly draws inspiration from Abbott and Costello's original writing. That being said, I think the creators have written enough WoW humor into it to make their version original and fun. It's been a while since we've looked at this video, so I thought now would be a good time to revisit it.
I especially enjoy that the night elf and dwarf refer to specific classes, class abilities and dungeon roles. This really sets Who's the tank? apart, since this really makes me think BroncoTV spent a lot of time working on the dialogue. Anyone could have simply subbed out specific phrases to make the routine a WoW version, but BroncoTV put the effort into making the routine a little new. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at machinima@wow.com.
In fact this entire comment section is odd. The positive comments are downvoted, while the negative ones are untouched. Not saying someone's opinion should be downvoted, but the positive ones were.
Like with Craft of War: Blind (or whatever it's called), some videos need to be reposted from time to time so that people stop telling WoW Insider that they need to post these awesome "new" videos that they just barely found out about.
@Samutz I agree, some stuff could do that. But lets face the other way: there has been AWFULLY lot of reposts lately. People, please submit videos to moviewatch, this is starting to feel like watching TV.. "all re-runs every week." and we dont want that, do we now?
You have to consider the length of time it takes to write, revise, cast, capture, record voice actors, pick BGM, edit, and finalize any kind of animation or machinima. These things take time and Moviewatch is a regular column, with so few people producing machinima (and so many people hating on them, to the point that Moviewatch stops showing their work) getting movies that are old and have been played here before will happen more and more.
If you are tired of seeing things that have already been posted, GO MAKE YOUR OWN AND SUBMIT IT!!! Also, stop bitching about what they do or don't put up or we won't even have Moviewatch anymore.
This reminded me of the first time I listened to the Abbot and Costello version on my dad's ancient tape player. I think I was about 8 years old and was rolling.
The sad thing is, in an old guild of mine we'd have a similar conversation whenever training a new healer because out main tank's name was "Who". Good times.
This is one of my fav classic machinimas! Thanks for bringing it up again!

Points for the Wilhelm at the end.

I thought that was a nice touch too, Stoop. A classic scream for a classic routine! :)
Drakkenfyre Oct 4th 2010 12:20PM
And the idiots downvoting this guy don't even know what a Wilhelm scream is.

Came to comment on the Wilhelm, thank you Stoop. Great video.
StClair Oct 4th 2010 4:28PM
The whole thing was great (a good rewrite and excellent voice acting), but the Wilhelm was the cherry on top.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good video, but isn't it a little old?

This is the first time I've seen it. I'm glad it was posted, it's now on my list of the top three greatest WoW machinimas.
Tokkar Oct 4th 2010 12:01PM
In before the "wasn't this featured before" and "this is an old movie" crowd.
"Who's On First" is a classic, and I believe that A&C would be proud of this homage. :-)
Dreyja Oct 4th 2010 1:49PM
Exactly. I've not seen it in ages and it still made me LOL. The guys doing the voices have some serious comedic timing.
BigBoyI Oct 4th 2010 12:04PM
Eeech... Too much screaming, and I found their voices rather annoying.
Aaron Oct 4th 2010 3:28PM
Really? The PRIEST PRIEST PRIEST part cracks me up so hard. x-DDD

I love this. I think I like it even more then the original by Abbott and Costello.

I watch this, and I can't help but think "What's the druid?" would be a better choice. A mage is a mage, but a druid can be anything.
Muchao Oct 4th 2010 1:42PM
Just as with the original, I laughed until my eyes were tearing up!
Natsumi Oct 4th 2010 4:41PM
if you liked that, you'll love this! :D
