My main guild is already three guilds...not because we had so many members, but because we needed more guild bank space to accommodate the needs of lower level toons and alts as well as high level toons, and it made more financial sense to create two guilds with a few tabs than one extra guild with all the tabs. The guilds are divided up into low level, mid level/outland, and Wrath guilds, with the Wrath guild being our main guild. We just use a shared chat channel that everyone in the guilds is set up to join on login.
Admittedly, in my guild everyone has a character in the main guild for the most part, but I don't really see why this setup or a similar setup (pvp, leveling, raiding?) wouldn't work for larger guilds too. Sure, it isn't as cool as being able to all be a part of one guild, but it could be a boon for organization, focus on certain areas of the game, and storage, and give other people opportunities to develop leadership by managing the connected guilds.
