Well, g2g has one instant advantage over private channels in that its use is dictated by belonging to a linked guild. That prevents passwords from getting out, etc. I don't know of any addon with the functionality to show all online members, though, which is a hurdle I'd like to see cleared.
Also, to the person who responded re: taint monopoly, no one ever said that. I'm well aware that there are other lgbt friendly guilds on Proudmoore and my original guild was lgbt on a pretty small rp server. I'm not debating the merits of size or inclusiveness in terms of this posting, which is about blizzard's decision to cap guild size. If you're trying to infer I'm a new member or a noob with your comment, you're wrong.
It appears there are only a few guilds right now over the 600 size limit. I see that, for Blizzard, this was an easy fix as it doesn't really hit many guilds. It'sworth a serious discussion in the future, though, since people have pointed out how relatively quickly you could fill this cap.
