The Queue: We killed Malygos edition

Hello there, friends. Mathew here, filling in for another exciting episode of The Queue. Did you know that we totally killed Malygos? He's dead. First, we punched Sapphiron in the face for a key to the Eye of Eternity. Then, we marched over to Coldarra and made our way up the spire. After that, Malygos attacked while my buddies and I stood around in zappy pools of power and blasted the aspect of magic. After some disc surfing and cowering under magic domes, Malygos redecorated the floor and, with the help of annoyingly hard-to-control red drakes and a bunch of idiots who can't press 1-1-1-3-1-1-1-3-1-1-1-3 and maybe the shield button, Malygos died. Dead. Forever? Who knows? Right now, though, Malygos is dead. Questions?
loreaddict asked:
Malygos is dead for real?
Yes.
Itanius asked:
With Cataclysm being released as a digital download, I guess we can say goodbye to many of the midnight release lines, eh?
Yes and no. On the one hand, if you're going for the pageantry of the release night, with all the cool events and fun going on all over the country at midnight, you won't want to miss a midnight release party. In addition, you can still only get the collector's edition of Cataclysm from retail establishments and online ordering from places like Amazon. On the other hand, yeah, the digital download will most likely just be an unlock, meaning you'll be up and running more quickly than if you ran to and from the store.
feniks9174 asked:
Does it feel good to finally have an answer to the most-asked question of 2010?
Yes, I'm glad that we finally know who is replacing Simon and Paula on American Idol.
thegatherer asked:
How many hours will be lost during the week of Dec. 7?
A lot. In fact, get ready for the cable news media to hit everyone with the "experts" who come out to tell you how popular this new "online role playing game" phenomenon is and that the kids these days pretend to be dragons on the internet.
bui asked:
So yeah Mr. Queuepants Mcwearersonburg, here's a question for you, or for anyone, really. What's the first thing you're gonna do when Cataclysm is up and running on your PC? Me? I'm going to buy the old world flying stuff and cruise around to survey the damage.
I plan on destroying, or at least aggressively agitating, my server's economy using crafting materials on the auction house.
Discolando asked:
How much time do I have to get a Kingslayer title?
Probably forever, until the game shuts down. Titles usually don't go anywhere. Removing the Glory of the Raider drakes and Hand of A'dal were fairly uncommon moves by Blizzard, and titles have stayed beyond content patches in the past. Don't expect Kingslayer to go anywhere. Although I would like them to put those drakes and titles back in.

It IS 1-1-2 if you're DPSing. 3-3-3-4 if you're healing.
1 is the fireball that places a combo point up.
2 is the flame that uses the combo points to put up a stacking dot
3 is the self heal with self combo points
4 is the aoe heal
5 is the emergency shield.

Actually, it's whatever needs to be done in order to keep your stack running or your group alive. Whether that's 1-2-1-2-1-2 or 1-1-1-1-1-2 or *trails off into more numbers*...
...it doesn't really matter. Whatever makes the big dragon trying to eat your face not alive.
Which I think is the point. WotLK has taught many players to simply do what someone in raid chat says rather than go to the excruciatingly painful work of actually learning the mechanics of a particular fight.

i think the point was, that the original poster of the article said 1-1-3...

These days almost anything works as long as SOMEBODY is hitting the heal button. I'm a patch 3.3 baby, and Malygos came up as the weekly. First time we wiped on the drakes, second time I noticed that no one else was healing, so I picked up a 1-1-1-3 rotation and kept the 5 of us who hadn't managed to get ourselves killed alive, doing pretty nicely on the healing charts. As a warrior.

1-1-2 has been so drilled into everyone's heads that it's a running gag in my guild that it's also the rotation in the Lootship cannons. (It's not.)

Malygos. So glad he's dead. So glad. Such bad fight mechanics... such nightmares... one one two... oh, kittens. Hi.

That title pic is so full of win it isn't even funny.
You totally made my day McCurley, even with your silly 1 T name. :p
Idaelus Oct 5th 2010 1:08PM
And before anyone asks, yes, I am easily amused. :)
Eternauta Oct 5th 2010 1:48PM
Idealus, I always wanted to tell you that I LOVE your avatar pic!
It's so full of win!
Now my question to the Queue: What does "GCD capped" mean? I've been reading that a lot lately on Ghostcrawler's posts.
btard Oct 5th 2010 1:56PM
Yeah WTH, is that a typo with just one T ?!
Idaelus Oct 5th 2010 1:57PM
Thanks Eternatua! I like to make people smile.
GCD capped means that you have basically have an action for every global cooldown (the 1 to 1.5 second bit after casting most spells, where all your abilities are not able to be used), with little to no room in between to fit other abilities. It makes it hard to effectively burn your resources for maximum damage/healing, as you have an excess of resource, but not enough GCDs to use it all.
I think, anyway....
Idaelus Oct 5th 2010 2:00PM
Nope btard, that is his real name.
It's pretty awesome, but not quite up to par with a real Matt like Rossi, Low, and Myself.
:D

So, would a Mattthew be the ultimate Matt?
Idaelus Oct 5th 2010 2:19PM
AMG!!!!! A (cutaia) reply!!!!!
/swoon
And yep, probably would be the ultimate guy. I look forward to serving our future Mattthew overlords.
Eternauta Oct 5th 2010 2:56PM
Thanks for the answer, Idaelus.

@Eternauta:
GCD Capped: By adding haste you can reduce your global cooldown (GCD) however your GCD can never be less than 1 second. So, at one second GCD you are "capped"- prevented from going any faster (your GCD cannot be less).
It is a "hard cap" meaning that you can add more haste but it will do you absolutely no good. It is at 1 second and it is staying there.
When someone says a "soft cap" adding more of a stat will technically help but is subjected to the law of diminishing returns and after the "soft cap" the benefit is so little as to be negligible.

I knew this guy that talked to just hear himself talk, he never added anything to the conversation (although he thought he did). Never could get him to shut up, and what made it worse was when someone gave him the idea that he was witty and urbane.
through unwarranted attention. Anyone else ever run into someone like that?
Banaoil Oct 5th 2010 4:53PM
(This whole response shall be in ( ) because it hardly matters until you get to the nth eschelon of geek... but... if you stack haste beyond the point of 1 sec cooldown, the spell still lands faster, you just can't cast anymore until the GCD comes up again. DPS, meh. Healer... might make a difference... if you don't think so you might want to roll something other than dps for a change. If you do understand the difference, you probably can use semicolons in a sentence on your English finals in college. If not, I fully expect you to be distracted by puppies.)
