Tuesday Morning Post: I'm dreaming of a Cataclysmic Christmas edition

Of course, before Cataclysm, we have patch 4.0.1 to contend with, but the exact date it's going live is still up in the air. Still, with the current arena season ending as early as Oct. 12, it's probably soon. Of course, for those of you who are still sort of confused as to what Cataclysm is and what all the hubbub is about, well, we can help with that too. Of course, all this stuff is off in the future. In the here and now, we have the usual scheduled maintenance window of 5-11 a.m. Pacific time. That means you have plenty of time to catch up on all the news from the past few days, and we have it all right here on WoW Insider.

Still agree with Eli Khoury about the Lock gear.
"Nor is it about the threesome between the Cobra Commander, Batman and a very unlucky druid, which apparently inspired the wretched warlock T11 design that has had me scratching my head these past few weeks. "

"and everyone was reading secret codes on Blizzard's websites and game data."
And not the right secret codes, either, with the 12.7% thing and all.
Chokaa Oct 5th 2010 7:58AM
I've been wonderin if maybe they had 'secret codes' in place for a variety of dates, just as aCYA policy.

That or a LOLOLOL look at our silly fanbase.. how'd they miss that?

Question about 4.0.1, sorry if this has already been answered somewhere or other: when do the old world dungeons get revamped? On the day of patch 4.0.1, or on the day of Cataclysm's release, or what? I'm hoping it's not too soon, there's still a lot I want to get from them. Finish off a Shadowcraft set for nostalgia or RP purposes, take a few more shots at Rivendare's charger, maybe do a little of the Dungeon Set 2 chain... If I have until Dec. 7, I can probably manage the important stuff, but if I only have until Oct. 12 (which I realize is not certain to be the patch release date, but given the arena thing, it's probably not too far off) there's no way I'll get them all.

I believe when Cataclysm comes out. 4.0.1 is only new talent trees and the new class combos that aren't goblins and worgen. 4.0.3 is the pre-launch event and the world starts changing.
Boobah Oct 5th 2010 10:42AM
Still wrong. 4.0.1 is just mechanics/back end changes; it introduces the new talent trees, PvE/PvP currencies, and raid lockout systems, and the new guild interface (but not any of the leveling/achievement/bonus stuff).
4.0.3 which will include the Shattering gives us the new old world, including dungeon changes and the like. It'll also include the new classes for old races; they're presented, at least partially, as being due to the changes Deathwing's emergence wrought on the world. Besides, in 4.0.1 you won't have the new class trainers yet.
The actual expansion will add the new races, the new guild stuff (aside from the interface), the new level cap, and the new zones/dungeons/raids.
Zarhym was discussing this on the forums over the weekend.

Dec 07, the timing is perfect most ppol are on there spending mode bec of the pre Christmas days....the question is, would it result to a big wow windfall(money talks)my guess is HELL yeah, battalions of nerds or semi nerds(lol)are gonna be flocking to bestbuy and whatnot. And not to mention the abroad side the europeans and the asians we're all gonna be lining up...is this gonna topple the record sells of WoTLK or BC my guess is HELL YEAH...and now my concerned bigger sells = more ppol, more ppol = more players are going to log in(now ur gonna get my grief)....is it gonna cause big time downed server? i think yep, but i hope its not big time...so guys(especially the returnees) take it easy we've been there

Whee! Release date! Very nice...
Now, weird thing... tried to log on this morning, figuring I was in time to log on to grab mail. Thing is... I got a message saying my account had been locked for suspicious activity. I have an authenticator, I have a random alphanumeric password, I run Malwarebytes, SuperantiSpyware and AVG once every few days, I've never bought gold, or spammed sales, and I've received no correspondence from Blizzard about my account being locked.
Did Blizzard bork up their 'the servers are unavailable' message and start displaying 'your account has been locked due to suspicious activity' message by accident???
i_s_art Oct 5th 2010 10:36AM
I don't know, but my boyfriend (who plays on EU) got the same message a few days ago. He called up customer service, they unlocked his account, and nothing was wrong at all. Still had everything, no one had seen him on, etc. Very weird. :/
cygnus Oct 5th 2010 11:15AM
Although it looks like a legit mail its a scam. The mail will link you to a website that looks very much like the official wow site, through that site youll be asked for your email and password. Since you have an authenticator, you are kind of safe, but i recomend changing your password if you fell for the phishing.
Thyen Oct 5th 2010 1:19PM
Ah, it's actually legit. I didn't get any email at all to start
I tried to log in around the server restart time, and was informed my account was locked out for suspicious activity. I got the email a few hours later. Went to the website (not clicking links in the email, typed it into my address bar from a separate browser) and yeah, it's locked.
Definitely not a scam in this case... worry not on that.
Paul Oct 5th 2010 11:18PM
Comes out 2 days before my birthday
Myrkridia Oct 5th 2010 10:37AM
As far as tier gear goes. Nothing will ever come close to Warlock Tier 5.
Matthew Oct 5th 2010 8:19PM
I agree, but warlock tier 8 is pretty sweet. Putress look alike ftw!
Armill3 Oct 5th 2010 10:54AM
Wow, you guys were forced to become WoW Insider again and switch URLs because AOL wanted to start its own Groupon.com clone with your URL? I have to imagine the business you're bringing in must be worth more than whomever's brilliant idea it was to use that property for a half-off coupon gimmick. Well, hope it pays off for that guy.
