Cataclysm: Justice and valor point drop rates revealed

Ulvareth -- Justice Point Drop QuantitiesAlthough we've revealed some details of the conversion process (forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=14574620794&sid=1), many of you have asked how many Justice and Valor Points bosses and daily dungeons will actually award. This list is incomplete, and the values may still change, but it covers the majority of the content we've been asked about.
Lich King Heroic dungeon boss -- 16 Justice Points
Lich King daily normal dungeon -- 12 Justice Points
Lich King daily Heroic dungeon -- 23 Justice Points
Lich King raid boss -- 23 Justice Points
Cataclysm Heroic dungeon boss -- 75 Justice Points
Cataclysm daily normal dungeon -- 75 Justice Points
Cataclysm daily Heroic dungeon -- 75 Valor Points
Cataclysm 10-player raid boss -- 75 Valor Points
Cataclysm 25-player raid boss -- 105 Valor Points
It's important to note that once you outgrow content, by leveling past it by a predetermined amount, you'll no longer gain points. The 'outgrown' level for end-game Wrath of the Lich King content is likely to be level 81. Once you level beyond Lich King content you'll still be able to enter the dungeons, kill bosses, and see their drops, but they will not award you with points. This same principle applies to all content that provides Justice Points, including content from The Burning Crusade.

Blizzard has said in the past that 25-man content would reward players with a faster avenue to hitting their point caps for the week, and now we see how. An extra 30 valor points are awarded per raid boss in 25-man. For those of you sticking to 10-man content, it most likely means that you'll be doing your daily heroic in Cataclysm more often than a strict 25-man raider.

My head is hurting 28.57% more than when I first started looking at all these sums.
Matthew Oct 6th 2010 12:43PM
So I wonder if you turn off your XP and leveling if you can't farm Wrath Heroics for a while to earn Justice points @ 16 per boss.
Puntable Oct 6th 2010 12:50PM
I don't see why not... but why would you want 16 points instead of 75?
Chuck Oct 6th 2010 12:55PM
but why would you? doesn't seem like it would be worth the time.

While that may be possible you will probably have some long queue tomes considering people will want to see the cata content.

"While that may be possible you will probably have some long queue tomes considering people will want to see the cata content."
If the Cata 5-man tuning is not changed, no tank or healer would ever enter the LFD queue and its not clear that an LFD pug could even complete a Cata heroic. I think anyone who tries to enter the LFD queue after 12/7 will face an untenable queue time.
But seriously, who on earth wants to run another WotLK dungeon, I cant even queue up my 73 alt once a day I am so sick of those places.

That strategy will work, but only up to a point. Unlike now, where a level 10 could purchase level 80 honor gear if they somehow managed to get enough hps, in Cataclysm you can only by a piece of gear if you're level appropriate, and there's a cap of 4k on JP (and there might even be a weekly cap in place as well).
So basically you can't just sit @80, farm heroics, and stock up on lvl 85 gear. You can, however, cap your JP and get a slight advantage @ lvl 85, however I'm guessing it would be faster (and certainly less grindy) to simply level through and run the 85 content to accrue JP faster. If nothing else you'd be able to get 75 JP/day from running the cataclysm daily dungeon on your way to 85.

@Matt: While your comment got downvoted, a portion of your comment is spot on. I believe that once Cataclysm comes out, WotLK heroic dungeons will be as dead as BC heroic dungeons are now.
Firstly, you'll get quest greens in the new content that are at least good enough to carry you through further questing. They won't be as good as the epics from heroics... probably... but they'll be good enough to get by.
And once the 'backlog' of level-capped 80s is gone, there'll be as few level 80s as there are people at level 70. Fewer people, longer queue times. Simple as that. The level 81 toons will be doing Cata content because that's where the rewards are.
WotLK heroics will be relegated mostly to people trying to complete achievements, people doing nostalgia tours, and people who didn't buy the cata expansion.
On the plus side, BC heroics will become more widely accessible (for people doing achievements and nostalgia...) with blizzard doing away with keys.

don't forget the gap between patch 4.01 and cata. just farm the JP when the patch hits (or now and get badges converted) that way you just power level to 85 and purchase some gear right away.
Boobah Oct 6th 2010 4:23PM
"there's a cap of 4k on JP (and there might even be a weekly cap in place as well)"
There's explicitly no cap on gaining Justice Points; you just can't hold onto more than four thousand.
Valor Points just as explicitly DO have a weekly cap; if there's ten bosses (I believe there's more, but it's an example) in the first tier, expect the weekly cap to be eleven or twelve hundred. It'll be high enough that 25-man raiders can get most of their points from the raids, ten-man raiders can hit the cap with some work, and non-raiders can't make the cap at all.
Thao Oct 6th 2010 8:43PM
Sure, but you'd only be able to farm to the cap at which time you would have to level up to use the gear that you'd buy, or perhaps they will simply have a limit on what level you must be to spend the justice points on the highest level items.
That would keep people from being able to farm for and buy the top tier of gear all while at level 80 :) Or an even simpler solution, don't allow xp to be turned off from level 70+ :)
Silversol Oct 7th 2010 5:09AM
Currently in the beta, if you don't spend your current justice and honor points, they're gone the second you ding 81.
Scott Oct 6th 2010 12:43PM
40% more Valor Points for 25-man is a pretty good argument in their favor.
Heilig Oct 6th 2010 3:43PM
Gotta disagree here. If you assume 10 bosses in each tier of raiding, which is probably a safe assumption, that means 25 man raiders will get an extra 300 points a week. That's a difference of 4 Daily Random Heroics, or the equivalent of 8 Frost badges in today's environment. Would you really put up with the hassle of coordinating an extra 15 people (with the 2-5 parasites that inevitably includes) instead of going with 9 other quality raiders just for 8 Frost Badges a week?
Boobah Oct 6th 2010 4:25PM
Don't forget, there's a cap on the number of Valor Points available in a week. 25-man raiders probably will probably cap their Valor Point totals with one or two dailies.
Nina Katarina Oct 6th 2010 12:44PM
How does that correlate to item prices, or are item prices not yet in the game?
How many Cataclysm heroics will we need to knock out to get a T11 shoulderpad?
Matt Oct 6th 2010 1:06PM
Nina, you can find info on the Cataclysm rewards here: http://www.mmo-champion.com/content/1989-Cataclysm-Release-Dalaran-Portals-Cataclysm-Epic-Stats#valorpoints
Scroll down for Justice points.
Mindaika Oct 6th 2010 1:34PM
An infinite number, as T11 will not be purchasable with JP, but rather with VP.
(cutaia) Oct 6th 2010 5:36PM
Mindaika,
"Cataclysm daily Heroic dungeon -- 75 Valor Points"
That is all.
Puntable Oct 6th 2010 12:47PM
I remember they once said that there would be a cap on how many points you could gain per week. Did they ever say what the cap will be?
