Addon Spotlight: Leave me alone!
Addon Spotlight focuses on the backbone of the WoW gameplay experience: the user interface. Everything from bags to bars, buttons to DPS meters and beyond -- your addons folder will never be the same. This week, just leave me alone, already!
Sweet, sweet solitude. People used to complain when single-player game elements were included in massively multiplayers, saying that the experience of relying on the player base as well as yourself was paramount in a game that billed itself as massive and multiplayer. Well, sometimes a little single player is good for you. Playing WoW alone can be relaxing, including the whole point about not having to cater to anyone else's fun.
This week on Addon Spotlight, we're going to talk about some addons for the loners out there -- people who just want to be left alone for five minutes, please! Stop talking to me, I don't need this right now. No, I do not want to run Blackwing Lair. Can't you see I have Sporeggar reputation to grind?
IgnoreNotes
Sometimes people go on my ignore list for complicated, deep and meaningful reasons. Couldn't DPS down snobolds on Gormok the Impaler? That's an ignore. Spamming trade chat with your nonsense that's not funny, as opposed to really funny nonsense? That's an ignore. Asking, "What about a mutilation rogue?" in whispers after I advertise needing just a healer for VoA-25? That's an ignore. So many reasons, so little time!
IgnoreNotes is the simple fix for figuring out why you ignored someone in the first place. This little addon does one thing and one thing well, adding a notes feature to the built-in Blizzard ignore list. You can add notes to your ignores much like how you can add notes for friends. Right-clicking on any entry in the ignore list allows you to edit that person's note. Easily remember what horrible things this particular person did to you to earn enough ire for an ignore.

IgnoreMore
Some people have bag space issues. I'm one of them. Endless numbers of dumb trinkets and rare items I'm too crazy to get rid of. Some people have ignore list issues. The world is practically against these people.
IgnoreMore doesn't have the ability to increase the number of ignored players you are allowed to have under the Blizzard ignore list. No addon can increase that limit. Rather, IgnoreMore is a chat addon that can filter out people you designate, so you are in effect ignoring them.
You can use the same ignore list across all of your alts as well, easily keeping these degenerates ignored no matter what character you are playing as. The addon also does not send back a message to the player, informing them that you are ignoring them, which some people like as a feature.

BadBoy, BadBoy, whatcha gonna do?
Some of the people that I wish would leave me alone the most are spammers. Seriously, quit it. I'm not going to buy your gold, your mounts, or whatever crazy new spam message du jour is this week's annoyance. BadBoy Anti-Spam Automatic Reporter helps to end the clutter and annoyances by attempting to block gold, phishing and hack spam in whispers. The addon also supports tools for repetitive spamming as well as getting rid of that nasty ASCII art that can pollute trade chat.
The best part about this chat filter is that it is light and efficient, just as it touts. Because of BadBoy, sometimes I forget there are even that many spammers out there. It does an excellent job for me in helping to eliminate spam from the game.
But wait, there's more! With your free download of BadBoy Anti-spam, we'll throw in BadBoy_CCleaner, a plugin for BadBoy Anti-spam that scrubs chat of those annoying "anal" messages and other user-set words that will be attempted to be removed. Hopefully, this addon makes trade chat a little bit more bearable for those of you who left.

I called Shotgun
Avonin's Shotgun is one of those addons that truly came out of nowhere for me. Have you ever been plagued by a nagging hatred of a minuscule detail and just had that crazy epiphany, when you realized life would be so much better if you just had a way to control something so simple and yet so annoying? Shotgun did that for me.
What is Shotgun? Shotgun is effectively a white list for your passenger mounts, like the Mechano-hog. By setting a list of people who are allowed to ride shotgun in your mounts, you can effectively keep hangers-on off your bike or mammoth in battlegrounds. It used to be a pain to just let my buddies ride with me. Now, it's easy as pie. And pie is easy.
Shotgun even has a cool setting called Loner Mode that leaves your passenger mount free of hop-ons. Because you always have to watch out for hop-ons. Even those people on your friends list or passenger white list are not allowed.

How about a mailbag question to finish us off?
Thanks for the email, Tish. MoveAnything! is an awesome addon that allows you to move and re-size practically everything in the default user interface. You'll have no problem scaling Blizzard's built-in quest objective panel.
See you all next week!
Addons are what we do on Addon Spotlight. If you're new to mods, Addons 101 will walk you through the basics; see what other players are doing at Reader UI of the Week. If there's a mod you think Addon Spotlight should take a look at, email mat@wow.com.

How about a mailbag question to finish us off?

So I'm thinking of ditching QuestHelper because it is a resource hog and Blizzard does have the built-in quest tracker I could use.
But as far as I can tell, there is no way to adjust the location of or size of the Objective panel provided by Blizzard. This is quite annoying, since a lot of my UI design ends up overlapping the default area.
So can you tell me, is there some small add-on out there that will let me move/re-size the default objective panel?
Thanks,
Tish

Thx a lot

Please, if you're just going to type any old lark to be first, at least put some thought into it :

@ Britishbulldog, Maybe Kristoffer was genuinely thankful for this article, (like myself who picked up several great tips) and wanted to simply thank the author, a reasonable thing to do. Berating him for doing so is unnecessary.

Ignore More is one of the best addons I have ever downloaded. I can actually leave trade chat on for the stuff I want to hear about and gleefully add jerk-wads to the list with impunity. I love that it carries over to my other toons as well.
I can’t reccomend it enough.
Rakah Oct 7th 2010 3:39PM
last time i tried ignore more it said it was imcompatible with my EU client

"Now, it's easy as pie. And pie is easy."
Pi on the other hand is a different story. 3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375105820974944592307816406286208998628034825342117067982148086513282306647093844609550582231725359408128481117450284102701938521105559644622948954930381964428810975665933446128475648233786783165271201909145648566923460348610454326648213393607260249141273724587006606315588174881520920962829254091715364367892590360011330530548820466521384146951941511609.

Awesome "Arrested Development" shout.
BadBoy will be really useful too.
Hasselhoff Oct 7th 2010 2:42PM
Agreed. You're gonna get some hop-ons.
Favorite Arrested Development joke go go go:
*enter Lucille*
Michael to GOB: Get rid of the Seaward
Lucille: I'll leave when I'm good and ready.
*blank stares from Michael and GOB*
-or-
*Michael in jail on the phone with Lucille*
Michael: Tell GOB I'm going to tell the police it was him in the car. I've got a nice, hard cot with his name on it.
Lucille: You'd do that to your own brother?
Michael: ...I said "cot".

I'd never heard of BadBoy before this article, but it was pretty mandatory for me to pick up SpamThrottle when I transferred to Korgath. Apparently a lot of people there think it's useful to send the exact same message to Trade chat--LFG, LFM, and selling items--multiple times in a short span. This addon cuts out any identical message that you receive within the amount of time that you specify. I have mine set to 90 seconds currently, but I think the default is ten minutes. It's glorious.

wutsconflag Oct 7th 2010 2:25PM
Thank god you mentioned BadBoy! I can't tell you how much nicer Trade is having installed that some months ago. In fact, I recommend it in Trade so much, people have accused me of being the author (don't I wish!). It's definitely a great addon!
Another I would recommend:
NoDuel
Simple and extraordinarily easy to use. It auto-declines duels, and sends a configurable message to the would-be dueller (assuming they're on your faction).
Shadowwind Oct 7th 2010 3:27PM
I'm apparently in the minority, but I don't use chat addons because I believe in helping to create consequences for the (body part) (link) people. I've been told that if someone gets Report Spammed in Trade enough times, a GM will look at their flagged messages and perhaps get around to tossing out a ban if they've been bad enough. If you use an addon to hide those messages, the problem people don't get flagged, and there's no chance for a ban. Besides, once you start flagging, you usually find it's only 5-12 people linking Thunderfury over and over and over again.
That said, gold spammers are amazingly annoying. Pity the Picolo no longer works on the website-spelling ones. :-(
Dreyja Oct 7th 2010 3:37PM
@ Shadowind - I totally still report gold spammers but there are litterally hundreds of level 1 or 2 alts that people jump on just to be jerks on trade chat. It's not even that they are spamming but they are being rude and/or just talking smack after a city raid. Anyone that uses the word "rape" in trade chat or a whisper gets ignored by me. It's not nec. spam but I have the right to not have to listen to them.
I agree that we should still do what we can to get the worst of them banned though. :)
onlygamo Oct 7th 2010 5:08PM
@Shadowwind:
BadBoy automatically flags someone for spam, it doesn't just ignore it.
Bruce Oct 7th 2010 5:17PM
The piccolo doesn't work any more? Dang it, I just farmed one *just* to annoy the spammers. What did they do to it?
VioletArrows Oct 7th 2010 6:37PM
@Bruce: If you're talking about the gold spammers, they created a fix that they're no longer affected by it.
Sir Broose Oct 7th 2010 6:49PM
Obviously, they use a hack to do those designs with the toons, so they just had to write some code into the hack to ignore the piccolo.
vocenoctum Oct 7th 2010 7:51PM
Automaton is a great little addon that does a lot of stupid little things. One of the settings (wuss) autodeclines duels, another (loner) autodeclines guild invites (very useful for the "sign my charter!" crowd).
It also sells grey items whenever you hit a vendor, and repairs whenever you hit a repair guy.
Great little addon.
