Addon Spotlight: Leave me alone!
Addon Spotlight focuses on the backbone of the WoW gameplay experience: the user interface. Everything from bags to bars, buttons to DPS meters and beyond -- your addons folder will never be the same. This week, just leave me alone, already!
Sweet, sweet solitude. People used to complain when single-player game elements were included in massively multiplayers, saying that the experience of relying on the player base as well as yourself was paramount in a game that billed itself as massive and multiplayer. Well, sometimes a little single player is good for you. Playing WoW alone can be relaxing, including the whole point about not having to cater to anyone else's fun.
This week on Addon Spotlight, we're going to talk about some addons for the loners out there -- people who just want to be left alone for five minutes, please! Stop talking to me, I don't need this right now. No, I do not want to run Blackwing Lair. Can't you see I have Sporeggar reputation to grind?
IgnoreNotes
Sometimes people go on my ignore list for complicated, deep and meaningful reasons. Couldn't DPS down snobolds on Gormok the Impaler? That's an ignore. Spamming trade chat with your nonsense that's not funny, as opposed to really funny nonsense? That's an ignore. Asking, "What about a mutilation rogue?" in whispers after I advertise needing just a healer for VoA-25? That's an ignore. So many reasons, so little time!
IgnoreNotes is the simple fix for figuring out why you ignored someone in the first place. This little addon does one thing and one thing well, adding a notes feature to the built-in Blizzard ignore list. You can add notes to your ignores much like how you can add notes for friends. Right-clicking on any entry in the ignore list allows you to edit that person's note. Easily remember what horrible things this particular person did to you to earn enough ire for an ignore.

IgnoreMore
Some people have bag space issues. I'm one of them. Endless numbers of dumb trinkets and rare items I'm too crazy to get rid of. Some people have ignore list issues. The world is practically against these people.
IgnoreMore doesn't have the ability to increase the number of ignored players you are allowed to have under the Blizzard ignore list. No addon can increase that limit. Rather, IgnoreMore is a chat addon that can filter out people you designate, so you are in effect ignoring them.
You can use the same ignore list across all of your alts as well, easily keeping these degenerates ignored no matter what character you are playing as. The addon also does not send back a message to the player, informing them that you are ignoring them, which some people like as a feature.

BadBoy, BadBoy, whatcha gonna do?
Some of the people that I wish would leave me alone the most are spammers. Seriously, quit it. I'm not going to buy your gold, your mounts, or whatever crazy new spam message du jour is this week's annoyance. BadBoy Anti-Spam Automatic Reporter helps to end the clutter and annoyances by attempting to block gold, phishing and hack spam in whispers. The addon also supports tools for repetitive spamming as well as getting rid of that nasty ASCII art that can pollute trade chat.
The best part about this chat filter is that it is light and efficient, just as it touts. Because of BadBoy, sometimes I forget there are even that many spammers out there. It does an excellent job for me in helping to eliminate spam from the game.
But wait, there's more! With your free download of BadBoy Anti-spam, we'll throw in BadBoy_CCleaner, a plugin for BadBoy Anti-spam that scrubs chat of those annoying "anal" messages and other user-set words that will be attempted to be removed. Hopefully, this addon makes trade chat a little bit more bearable for those of you who left.

I called Shotgun
Avonin's Shotgun is one of those addons that truly came out of nowhere for me. Have you ever been plagued by a nagging hatred of a minuscule detail and just had that crazy epiphany, when you realized life would be so much better if you just had a way to control something so simple and yet so annoying? Shotgun did that for me.
What is Shotgun? Shotgun is effectively a white list for your passenger mounts, like the Mechano-hog. By setting a list of people who are allowed to ride shotgun in your mounts, you can effectively keep hangers-on off your bike or mammoth in battlegrounds. It used to be a pain to just let my buddies ride with me. Now, it's easy as pie. And pie is easy.
Shotgun even has a cool setting called Loner Mode that leaves your passenger mount free of hop-ons. Because you always have to watch out for hop-ons. Even those people on your friends list or passenger white list are not allowed.

Thanks for the email, Tish. MoveAnything! is an awesome addon that allows you to move and re-size practically everything in the default user interface. You'll have no problem scaling Blizzard's built-in quest objective panel.
See you all next week!
Addons are what we do on Addon Spotlight. If you're new to mods, Addons 101 will walk you through the basics; see what other players are doing at Reader UI of the Week. If there's a mod you think Addon Spotlight should take a look at, email mat@wow.com.

So I'm thinking of ditching QuestHelper because it is a resource hog and Blizzard does have the built-in quest tracker I could use.
But as far as I can tell, there is no way to adjust the location of or size of the Objective panel provided by Blizzard. This is quite annoying, since a lot of my UI design ends up overlapping the default area.
So can you tell me, is there some small add-on out there that will let me move/re-size the default objective panel?
Thanks,
Tish

The addon I like to use for rejecting duels is called MiscHelper. You can set it to do a lot of great things like auto-accepting loot/bop items, auto-accept "this item will be disenchanted" messages, sell greys, auto repair, and a passing on the bronze drake. Some others that I don't use are auto-accepting group invites or ports, or automatically greeding/de-ing blues and greens (useful if you don't care in the WOTLK era of purples).
Also, BadBoy is awesome, and I have to recommend the levels addition that blocks people up to a certain level. For me, I had to keep raising it because spammers would level a little so they could pst me. It also blocks new DKs. (Who doesn't want to do that anyway? ;)

Question about MoveAnything: does it actually make the default UI elements moveable, or does it replace all the default elements with moveable copies? In other words, how resource-heavy is it?
Meatwadz Oct 7th 2010 5:20PM
It is a really cool addon and it makes nearly every element of the stock ui movable. Perfect for people who prefer the look of the stock ui elements but want a little more customization. I used it for about a day but had to uninstall because it put huge strain on my computer. It is one of those addons that causes my screen to lag up for two seconds every time i enter combat.
Tish Oct 8th 2010 11:23AM
Hmm, that doesn't sound good. That is part of why I'm trying to ditch QH. My loading screen takes forever. The other day it actually took so long that I was marked AFK by the time I was off the loading screen. (that was unusually long - but even normal long is annoying) I'm unfortunately also a add-on-aholic so at this point I'm trying to trim things down as much as I can let myself.

Badboy is a fantastic addon, I would hate to play the game without it. It really does make you forget that there are gold-spammers in the game at all.
jestergod Oct 7th 2010 2:41PM
another addon i found very useful for cleaning up trade is GetOffMyLawn (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/goml.aspx). it filters everything out but what trade is designed for... trade and looking for groups. sometimes i think i logged in and trade just vanishes for me. its insane.
Lyrd Oct 7th 2010 3:20PM
Trade chat was designed for LFG?
rmcasselberry Oct 7th 2010 2:43PM
Greatest addon EVER! I have hitchhikers!!!
Monato Oct 7th 2010 2:46PM
On a similar note to the ignore add-ons is NoDuel, it automatically declines duel requests. I think it or one I had similar to it would allow /whispers to repeated requests, but I don't think the current one does.
Ailuvan Oct 7th 2010 3:58PM
I would also kill off QuestHelper, except for the one feature of it that really has nothing to do with the Quest Helping or map part of the addon:
/qh radar
SeiferTim Oct 7th 2010 2:55PM
Lol I was excited because my addon was named "LeaveMeAlone", but I stopped working on it a long time ago... :P these are good, too. I take the "M" out of MMO ;)

You ignore people because they didn't dps the snowbolds!? Don't you think that's a touch overzealous?
I can handle players that are new to content, or even if they ask some what needless questions. Personally I reserve the ignore list for those who are either griefers, vulgar or simply unwilling to co-operate in raid environment.
Scard Oct 7th 2010 3:39PM
"You ignore people because they didn't dps the snowbolds!? . . . I reserve the ignore list for those who are . . . unwilling to co-operate in raid environment"
DPS who don't kill the snobolds during Gormok aren't doing their job. To put it another way, they aren't "cooperating in a raid environment." And, by your own admission, are worthy of an ignore.
Tel Oct 7th 2010 3:41PM
Not DPSing the Snowbolds IS "simply unwilling to co-operate in raid environment."
Revrant Oct 7th 2010 3:53PM
Just one thing? Welcome to the A Touch Overzealous article, I find it a touch overzealous.
WorldOfWarCrack Oct 7th 2010 4:42PM
@Scard and Tel
I should probably clarify myself; there is a big difference between players who don't dps snowbolds, and those that *won't" dps snowbolds.
Players who haven't seen the content, or run with guilds who assign them to be purely on Gormok are not being unreasonable by ignoring the snowbolds.
Players who refuse to dps snowbolds even when asked I would describe as not co-operating. If I'm leading the raid, these people find themselves rapidly replaced and often black listed in some manner.

You missed Get Off My Lawn. Really awesome for filtering.

"If you want to filter out things like duel messages, drinking spam, dual-spec skill spam, or certain exceptionally annoying NPCs, this addon is for you. If it doesn't block it, request it and I'll see what I can do!"
kvanje Oct 7th 2010 3:02PM
AutoDecline is another nice help, can be set to ignore duels, party invites, guild invites and guild charters.
The Dewd Oct 7th 2010 3:02PM
These really look cool. Just being able to block the anal spam would be enough - all the other stuff is good, too. I always forget why I've put people on ignore and at this point I have to remove random same-server idiots just to make room for cross-server pugs I don't ever want to see again.
I normally read this column but since my UI is pretty bad I'm afraid to rebuild stuff from scratch. These are addons that I'll be able to install without having to deal with my fear of destroying my UI in an attempt to make it more usable.

Dear Tish,
I recommend you go check out QuestMyMap, see if you like what that does.
