The OverAchiever: Reputation factions in Cataclysm

Hello again, fellow achievement-hunters. This week we're going to finish up with a look at the new reputation factions available in Cataclysm and a quick look at new world events.
"There aren't any new world events," you point out.
That's what makes it so quick. Although this goes without saying in any article discussing new achievements, there are a few spoilers in here discussing how you meet and work with various Cataclysm factions. If you'd rather stay unspoiled about upcoming quests, don't go past the cut.
45 Exalted Reputations This is now the highest reputation-related achievement in the game. Interestingly, there is not a new title associated with it; you'll still receive The Exalted at 40 Exalted Reputations, although it's possible that it's just a placeholder. Then again, if you already have 40 exalted reputations, getting 45 should be very simple during Cataclysm, as there'll be at least six new reputation factions available. I'm not sure a new title's going to be in the cards as a result.

The six new reputation faction achievements available are as follows:
Baradin's Wardens (Alliance) and Hellscream's Reach (Horde) These are the factions quarreling over Tol Barad, so you'll have to get your PvP groove on in order to make any headway with them. I still have no experience with this Wintergrasp-like battleground (I've mostly been focusing on 5-mans on the beta), but Zach's got you covered if you're curious about it.
- How do I find them? Head for Tol Barad. On the beta, a port will open to the battleground (similar to Wintergrasp) from Orgrimmar or Stormwind at level 85.
- How do I find them? At level 84, a really interesting series of breadcrumb quests becomes available that will eventually put you on an airship (Horde) or plane (Alliance) to the Highlands. Having done both, I can state unequivocally that the Alliance quest line is by far the more fun and interactive of the two, but the Horde's compensated with a badass event while you're actually en route to the zone. Either way, you'll be dumped on the proverbial doorstep of the new factions, and it's awfully convenient how quickly their problems are suddenly yours.

- How do I find them? Another breadcrumb quest, which becomes available at level 83 or 84 (I don't recall which) from your local archaeology trainer or announcement board. You'll be sent to southern Tanaris to a caravan waiting outside the Gate of Unending Cycles. A lengthy cutscene ensues, which I would very much like to see paired off so it can produce lots of cutscene babies for the future. At the end, you'll meet Prince Nadun, who's been imprisoned by the tol'vir and will get you started on Uldum questing.
- How do I find them? A high-ranking representative guards the zone portals in Orgrimmar and Stormwind that whisk you off to all the new Cataclysm areas, and as of ... I want to say early September, you'll get a quest to go see them immediately on entrance to either city. You don't even have to pick it up; it just appears in your quest log.

- How do I find them? Major cities feature new announcement boards in high-traffic areas where you can pick up the breadcrumb quests for zones, and that's where I got the initial assignment to head to Moonglade for transport to Hyjal. An emerald dragon will oblige you with a flight into the zone, at which point you'll discover that things are so much worse than everyone thought they were.
- How do I find them? Assuming you're questing through Deepholm, you'll be introduced to them along the way.
World events
So far, there are no changes or additions to holidays or major events in Azeroth. Blizzard's said previously that it has no plans to alter What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been, so I doubt we'll see any real changes apart from whatever might be required to make holidays compatible with the new landscape.
Working on achievements? The Overachiever is here to help! We cover everything from Glory of the Hero and Insane in the Membrane to Master of Alterac Valley and Lil' Game Hunter, and you can count on us to guide you through Azeroth's holidays and special events. Oh, hai, it's me again.
Did they continue that whole faction-tabard-to-get-reputation-in-dungeons thing?
iscalio Oct 7th 2010 4:25PM
please read the article.
Camaris Oct 7th 2010 4:30PM
Damn you and your reasonable suggestions! (Thanks!)

Wildhammer clan! Those B-----.... I killed trolls for them in the Hinterlands for what seemed like aeons. They revered my name! Then they all hear about Shadowmoon Valley and it's all "who are you, again?" Now they're back, expecting people to truckle to them for the sake of "45 reputations" and "the greater good". Pfah!

I was wondering about Guild achievements/leveling. Are the values of the cap/how much you earn for the achievement known yet?

Is there any word on if specific classes will start out at friendly? Specifically, Shamans & Earthen Ring (it kinda seems to fit). I know Death Knights start out at least friendly with Knights of the Ebon Blade (pretty fitting), and for some reason I thought Druids started out Friendly w/Cenarion Circle (but I may just be completely off on that part; it may have just been early Druid quests that gave me that boost).

Mages are also automatically Friendly with the Kirin Tor. I sure hope shamans get a little boost to Earthen Ring rep, it needs to happen.
Aurix Oct 7th 2010 6:54PM
Druids begin as "almost" friendly to CC. First druid quest gets you just shy of it, iirc. Been a while.
Camaris Oct 7th 2010 4:35PM
Hmm.. I better stop commenting. It's all going wrong tonight.

Overachiever,
This series of articles are great, but you only list a few of the achivements in game. Having done a lot of achievements what resource would you suggest to find the "next easiest" achievement to tackle? Warcraftoverachiver.com has a great "suggest" feature but it only lists achievements which you are "close" to completing while not listing achievements you haven't started yet but which may be a lot easier to comlete. The technology should exist between all of these databases to put together a rough list of achivements us "hounds" can tackle in an approximate easy-to-hard list. Thanks!
MDrules Oct 7th 2010 5:20PM
I know I saw an article a long time ago about a website that used the armory to track which ones were the rarest.
You might want to google something like most difficult wow achivements, and work backwards.

@RG
I use wowjuju's rep calculator for rep achievements. (I Finally hit 40 reps last week which I consider quite a feat for never having been in a 40/25-man raiding guild.) It doesn't really give you a way to sort by ease of completion but if you pull up an individual faction it can show you repeatable quests and how many times you need to clear instance X or turn in item Y to level up your rep. It's better than nothing - though I'd LOVE to see Allison give us a list for Cataclysm of what to chase first and what to work on as we go.
Here's the rep calc link: http://www.wowjuju.com/repcalc
As for the comment about Druids before, I don't remember if we actually started off on better terms with Cenarion Circle or, if like the DKs probably did, got our rep for "free" by doing class quests (eg: Bear Form). Either way, yes, it's a free head-start on things like Guardian of Cenarius. :)

"as of ... I want to say early *September*, you'll get a quest to go see them immediately on entrance to either city."
Did you mean December, when Cata releases? Or does this start in 4.0.1, making it any Tuesday now? I'm guessing December, as there's no new zones to visit until then.
Allison Robert Oct 7th 2010 5:12PM
Ack, phrasing fail. What I meant was, as of some point in (I think) a mid-Septemberish beta build we suddenly got a quest to go see the Earthen Ring representative immediately on entering Stormwind or Orgrimmar. If Blizzard keeps it around, the quest will just show up in your log suddenly upon entrance to the city, and you'll skip off to go see the fellow at the portals.
BitterCupOJoe Oct 7th 2010 4:59PM
What about Worgen/Goblin reputation? Shouldn't that add another faction to get rep for?
Ringo Flinthammer Oct 7th 2010 5:02PM
The Wildhammer are only sort of a new faction -- up until the TBC launch event, they were a grindable faction in the Hinterlands. I know, because I was up to Honored with them, and I had a friend who was in the early part of Revered, as I recall, when the rep went away.
I know it's unlikely, but does anyone know if the "new" Wildhammer faction is actually the old one, returned and more fully supported, or do even older characters who might have killed a whole lot of trolls back in the day start from scratch?
Mayhew Oct 7th 2010 6:04PM
My guess is that you have to start from scratch.
My warrior used to be Honored with the Wildhammer (I got a 10% discount on flight training, back in BC beta), but I had to start from scratch with them in Cata beta. However, it's possible that something got lost in the transfer of my character from the live server to the beta server, so there might still be hope.

I believe you missed a bit of news! I read this recently on MMO-Champion, (if you scroll down to the post about Cata non-combat pets you'll see a blurb on it) but there is an achievement in Cata for 55 Exalted reputations. The achievement is called "United Nations" and it rewards the Dark Phoenix Hatchling.
It operates as a guild achievement, however, but I'm assuming there are still at least 55 individual reputations to obtain. Because well, why would it count the same rep more than once? That'd be silly if you have 55 members, they all get exalted with Stormwind and then bam you get the pet? I doubt that. But correct me if I'm wrong! I really dunno how all of the guild achievements function yet. :)
Herman Oct 7th 2010 6:06PM
yes its 55, but no one person has to have all 55, for instance i have 41, and i know someone in my guild has the BG reps i'm missing, so 44, then the aldor, the frenzyheart, 46, hydraxian, 47, the new 7ish reps, 54, the goblin cities, shendralar, ravenrogues, thorium brotherhood, and darkmoon faire. for a total of 62 possible i think, but since we have an insane and a justicar we should get it fairly soon after launch.
Blayze Oct 7th 2010 7:40PM
Assuming Guild Reputation counts, I'll be able to manage this achievement single-handedly--and the only reps I won't have come Cataclysm are Silverwing Sentinels, League of Arathor and the four non-Steamwheedle Insane ones. There's a total of sixty or sixty-one simultaneous Exaltable (Exalted...able?) factions planned so far, depending on that factor.
