2010 Global Writing Contest winners to be announced Oct. 18

2010 Global Writing Contest - Announcement of Announcement!
During today's daily feeding/washing ritual, the handlers for the 2010 Global Writing Contest judges were able to coax them into revealing - between the constant wailing and gnashing of eyelids - that the list of winners for the 2010 Global Writing Contest will be finished on Monday, October 18th. Until then, you are allowed to slow down your hammering the Refresh button to once every other second.

Thanks for posting this because I've been one of those refreshing all day long and I never would have seen this on the forums.

I considered entering. Had a real great idea, one that was like a mish-mash of Bubba Ho-Tep, Reservoir Dogs, The Breakfast Club and Breakfast at Tiffany's as written by Dr. Hunter S. Thompson in WoW, but thought I'd go over the word limit with that. Hell my stuff on here goes over 1k on the wordage, and it only takes me an hour or two to write those. Or, more likely, I thought Blizzard wouldn't go for spoof of their creation. Also, having a carpal tunnel flare-up this summer didn't make it an easy consideration.
As for what little did make it to the page, I really had to tone down the swearing, hookers and drugs in Old Ironforge, and violence against the elderly two-headed acid-belching marmots as depicted in second person while starving and high on a mix of rubbing menthol and 22 cups of cappuchino in the Netherstorm might be grounds for disqualification. I still touch the rough draft I composed here and there, might take it to the meetup night in OC, then use it for an ashtray while I break down with a Singapore Sling in hand, bawling like the shell-shocked survivor dudes at the end of Pit of Saron.
Had the deadline been now, hell yes I would gambled and submitted it. Then gotten angry when they awarded some 14-year-old for some Night Elf fanfic about a hunter more Mary Sue than Med'an romancing a Druid stuck in cat form.
/actually wrote this for day job practice, been a while since I wrote news copy http://wow.joystiq.com/2010/10/07/the-daily-quest-hello-goodbye-well-miss-you/#comments ... still saw a few errors and nitpicks as a writer, took me 90 minutes.
//of course I was mostly facetious in this post
///and thanks for everyone's comments and blues.

I entered with a kind of disaster-movie Cataclysm pastiché... wish me luck. Out of all the prizes, I'd probably be most excited about getting a win or a runner-up position on my CV to be totally truthful.

Good luck!
I wonder if my entry about the forbidden love between Tyrande and beer will be made canon.

Can't wait to see the latest crop of amateur fiction that's *still* better than anything they've paid Knaak cashy money to do.

If only there was an option to add another star so that we can keep uprating this.
But then again, that would involve a comment system revamp as well................................... /cough

Uh, so, what's with the lack of posting of the winners.
