Extended realm maintenance for Tuesday, October 12th; Patch 4.0.1 likely

Could some random bug crop up between now and then to crush the hopes and dreams of those of us preparing for a 4.0.1 Tuesday? Sure, but that could happen with just about any patch. What we do know is that realms will be down for 12 hours and Cataclysm is only a month and a half away.
Be sure to tune into WoW Insider during the downtime to brush up on your 4.0.1 patch information and all of the class-revamping, reforging, prime-glyphing, guild-member-capping, Azeroth-shattering information.
We will be performing extended maintenance on Tuesday, October 12th. Maintenance will begin at 12:00 AM PDT and conclude at approximately 12:00 PM PDT. During this time, all realms and many web services will be unavailable.
Thank you for your patience.

Not on topic: Where was my Arcane Brilliance this weekend!?!?
On topic: super excited for testing out the new talent trees for my 4 80's. Worried about Resto Druid healing (and tanking), and super excited for my Fire mage.

Allow me to alleviate some stress... Resto Druid tanking is gonna suck in 4.0.1. Anyone who is a resto Druid tank should just respec now.
Ikane Oct 11th 2010 1:58PM
yea, prot mages aren't doing so hot either

At long last...

No patch last forever, my son

Everyone in a raiding guild that's on hiatus cross your fingers...maybe just maybe enough people will pop back in to do a 10 man and pwn lich king!
btard Oct 11th 2010 11:08AM
Here's hoping so. I'm tired of seeing alts get BotFK and my main not getting it. It's not puggable in general on our server.

Fun times inc :D
New everything, this takes me back to TBC when paladins were 'fixed' to not suck so hard.
The new talent trees going in will be fun. certainly going to stir up the masses prior to cataclysm launch...
My question is, will this be enough to keep people going until December?

I guarantee you this is what you are going to see after the patch.
"Where do I learn Azeroth Flying?"
"My ArP gems went to Crit? WHAT THE HELL?"
"Where do I learn 310% flying?"
"Why can't I play Worgens or Goblins?"
"Where do I level after 80?"
"Where are my pets?"
"Where are my mounts?"
"Why can't I fly in the old world?"
"Why aren't there any world changes?"
"What happened to (insert spell)?"
"Where did all my MP5/Defense/Attack Power go?"
"Where can we get to the new zones?"
"Where did most of my Talent points go?"
"Where are my Gylphs?"
Based on what was said on the PTR.
Arednel Oct 11th 2010 12:34PM
not just the PTR, the beta too,
how do I get to *?
"use the quest"
I already did that though why can't I port there?!
"L2fly?!"
over and over again in trade.
oh yeah and the bit that confuses me, when you first get on beta or after a guild reset when people won't let you in their guilds even though you just want in to help them level it and test things out, and people who go out of their way to refuse to group for questing or even grief your kill. it's beta! play nice and things get tested quicker. Wish we had GMs on there.

Lmao I don't know of anyone who has a comp that can instantly download patches as big as this, so why don't people read the patch notes???? If you're going to have to wait while it downloads anyway, why not learn about what you're actually downloading in the process? It's not like you even have to go hunting for them, Blizzard puts them right in front of you. >.
Drakkenfyre Oct 11th 2010 2:56PM
People frequently don't read the patch notes.
A change can be announced, and put right in the patch notes, and people will still not read them, get in the game, and start complaining about something that has been changed or missing.
"Where did my (spell) go?"
"If you read the patch notes, you will know."
It annoys the hell out of me. You don't have to search for the patch notes, they are right there in your face when you are patching. Read them. If you don't want to look like an idiot in Trade asking 15 questions that can all be answered by reading the patch notes, read them.

you guys forget... the majority of these players are kids... reading is hard =/

Time to research new talent builds.
MikeLive Oct 11th 2010 11:35AM
One of the primary intentions behind the new talent system is that you shouldn't have to do any research. With no research at all, I was able to develop talent builds and rotations for both Fire Mage and Balance Druid on PTR premades and pull 4-6k DPS on a target dummy. Being a good player doesn't mean tracking down theorycrafters anymore.
Nathan Oct 11th 2010 12:42PM
Sadly Reforging is the new min/max theorycrafting sink.
Nic Oct 11th 2010 12:49PM
I agree with you both.
Never played a shamy, But made a PTR pre-made enhancement and got 4k dps just spamming shit. BUT with all the changes to healing classes, especially holy pallys -_-, a lil bit of research goes a LONG way.
and if your looking into actually doing a Raid in 4.0.1 research is a must. To get into our guilds Pugs or Guild runs You gotta know your shit and with all the changes in 4.0.1...
... idk if we'll be raiding this weekend -_- hahaha
Definitely looking forward to it tho
/salute

If you are in full raid gear, not heroic icc25 but in t10 icc gear, 4-6k dps is not "good." Not for a fire mage, not for a moonkin, even on a dummy. If anything, this is proof that you will have to do research.
I think the thing is the talent trees are pretty straightforward. The difference is in your glyphs and rotations, which are in flux for many classes, including mages and druids. So while you can set up your talent trees without seeking outside help, you are going to be sub-optimal unless you read up on what your rotation and glyphs should be.
Tankadin Oct 11th 2010 1:44PM
He said he was using a premade, on the PTR they can with T9 lvl 245 gear, and the professions were acting up so he may have been doing that with zero gems and zero enchants. Considering he had never been a Shammy before and the new spells that he hadn't really played with, I'd say that was a good amount.
Tankadin Oct 11th 2010 1:47PM
WTB Edit button.
"They can with T9" should read "they come with T9."
