Patch 4.0.1 introduces reforging into the game

There are a few restrictions:
- You can only change secondary stats (hit, crit, haste, mana regen, dodge, etc.).
- Only one stat may be changed.
- You can't change one stat into a different stat the item already has.
- You can't alter how much of the stat to change; it's always 40 percent(ish) of the original amount.
- The item must have an item level of at least 200 (level 80 epics or higher).
Where can you find these reforging guys? They are usually found in major cities near the enchanting trainers. If you can't find them, be sure to ask a guard, who'll point you in the right direction.
All in all, the reforging system is pretty simple and provides the opportunity for us to start trying out the new mastery stat without waiting for Cataclysm itself to be released. If you'd like to take a look at how this works, here's a gallery walking you the process through step by step.

"You can only change secondary stats"
Hmm? In beta I could turn my locks now useless spirit into mastery rating (with 40% ofc) so Is this still correct or something only cata will have and this patch will only have green stats?
Ice Oct 11th 2010 5:41PM
I guess "mana regen" as secondary stat means spirit now, eh?
*gets shame-belt and puts it on and mumbles* ..read the damn article and use your brains..
Thundrcrackr Oct 11th 2010 5:49PM
Yeah, Spirit is no longer considered a "main" stat, from what i understand. Main stats are Agility, Intellect, Strength, and Stamina.
Gregg Reece Oct 11th 2010 6:07PM
Yeah, essentially MP5 is now Spirit and Spirit works like MP5(ish). I didn't want to go into that in the post which is why I just said "mana regen".

So, should we reforge ICC gear to stack mastery now?
(cutaia) Oct 11th 2010 5:58PM
That was my first instinct.
Drakkenfyre Oct 11th 2010 6:00PM
It will be the only way to get Mastery until the expansion comes out.
Boobah Oct 11th 2010 8:05PM
It depends on the spec; 2-handed Frost has Mastery as worth more than anything that isn't strength or hit (to the melee cap, anyway), because they use Frost Strike so much. For Shadow Priests, the best that can be said for Mastery is that it beats Strength, Agility, and hit past the cap.

ArPen: Why are you doing this?? :(:( Are you leaving me?
Me: Look, I'm just saying things aren't working out.
ArPen: Are we through?
Me: Maybe we'll meet up again at some point. Who knows?
10 min later...
Haste: Hi cutie.
Me: Well hello there, baby. We meet again you sexy, sexy thing.
MikeLive Oct 11th 2010 6:30PM
Agreed. As an Enhancement Shaman, any ArPen gear is going from usable to possibly best-in-slot due to ArPen->Haste.
MikeLive Oct 11th 2010 6:37PM
If I recall, defence and block get turned into dodge or parry.

Mmm. Can I reforge my Oreo cookies into an ice cream sandwich? Time to stock up on some hi-sugar snacks in preparation for the new patch :)
Quark1020 Oct 12th 2010 12:56AM
Ah, no, only 40% of that Oreo will turn into an ice cream sammich. The other 60% will be in the ice cream sammich, creating a hybrid Oreo flavored ice cream sammich.
......One sec while i make a completely unrelated phone call!

Does reforging affect your gemming in any way? (It doesn't remove gems, does it?)
benbettis Oct 12th 2010 3:55PM
No, reforging only has to do with the Secondary stats on an item. However, lots of your gems will likely be changing, though this is a completely different topic and issue. Google, 4.0.1 gem conversions or something similar. :)
benbettis Oct 12th 2010 3:56PM
Sorry, I misunderstood the question. Though I would doubt it removes your gems or has any impact on them.
Mihn Oct 11th 2010 11:03PM
ArP is leaving? I dont read much, sorry :(

So it's a bit like being a death knight with our freebie enchants but to shift portions of stats around. Just could have saved lines and lines of a article by writing it like that.
But I'll wait for the eventual bug to pop up of reforging and losing a enchantment on the item.
Syme Oct 12th 2010 9:25AM
When they first announced reforging, it was done by player crafters. So now it's done by NPCs? I guess these things happen when I stop paying attention for a couple of months. It's disappointing, but not surprising.

Now everything really is Hunter Loot!!
