The Queue: Welcome to arf

In case you couldn't tell, the headline for today's edition of The Queue is a desperate attempt at an Independence Day joke that someone else may or may not have already made. Enjoy!
Darkseid asked:
What is the deal with worgen females? Why do they seem to be taking Blizzard so long to get anything done with them?
I think Blizzard is having a hard time figuring out how to make them look good. What should a female werewolf look like? How do you make them feral but also feminine without making them look completely silly? Should they have hair to make them look feminine (like they had originally) or just big furry manes like the males have, to look feral? Blizzard has done more significant visual overhauls of the worgen than it has of any other race in the game since World of Warcraft's alpha phase, as far as I can tell. Every time it updates them in the beta client, there's something about them that is significantly different than it was previously. The female worgen in the header image? Those screenshots were from just a few weeks ago, and I'm fairly certain the models don't even look like that anymore.
I'll give Blizzard's modelers the benefit of the doubt here; it is legitimately hard to find a balance between feral and feminine when doing this sort of thing. Too feral and people might not want to play them (crazed chihuahua syndrome). Too feminine and things get a little ... weird.
chyllyphylly asked:
What is happening to the WoW Insider Show? The last episode seems to have been 11 days ago.
When we changed domains, it caused some issues with our iTunes feed. That caused recording, editing and scheduling to fall out of the wondrous harmony it had before. From where I stand, things are looking just about caught up now and you should have at least two episodes of the WoW Insider show coming your way this week. We have been recording them this whole time, so if you're a faithful listener of the WoW Insider Show, you have quite a bit of content coming your way.
Adamr1234 asked:
Should I get heirlooms for my alts now or when Cataclysm hits? Also, is it worth giving heirlooms to a level 56 druid?
Buy them now. Immediately, before emblems turn into justice points. The justice point prices are set to scale to how quickly you'll accrue justice points at level 85, which is higher than how fast you'll get them at level 80. So compared to what heirlooms are priced right now, they will be more expensive when their prices shift over to justice points. Unless you're going to wait until level 85 to buy your heirlooms, you'll be getting ripped off.
Debesun asked:
Has there been any word on a fishing bag? I'm sick of having to rinse and (thoroughly) clean my bags to get rid of the smell that always gets the attention of those dang Dalaran alley cats that constantly follow me around.
I know tigrian answered your question sufficiently in the comments yesterday, but I felt I should point out his answer, anyway, because it was something I had no idea about.
Lure Master Tackle Box! It's a 36-slot bag (well, box) that holds lures, fish, Rumsey Rum and just about everything else related to fishing. I dig it.
Johnnytorrance asked:
Is it too early to believe that Blizz might announce the next expansion in this coming up BlizzCon?
Yes.

I'd like to thank everyone for their answers, and want to especially shout out to Rude Hero, who gave an excellent viewpoint.
"They're more linked to the horror genre, which you don't seem to be interested in. You're more interested in fighting maladjusted people that you can identify with to an extent and possibly redeem. That's fair. Those characters are certainly more complex and provide better plot elements."
I never really thought of it this way, but I think you are right. I'm not a fan of horror in general - although I like the occasional action horror game, like F.E.A.R. But I never really enjoy the story of horror games, and other types of horror like Silent Hill I never really got into. And you're definitely right, I'm much more interested in setting right some person or situation right because of the back story. I'm accustomed to RPG's with rich stories and characters, and enjoying the journey exploring those stories and characters. I never realized that Old Gods are more of the horror element, so I have to agree with you completely: It's a more horror-based type of storytelling that I don't really like.
Big thanks for that response Rude. Definitely shines a new light on the plot devices for Old Gods.

Any idea/is there a list of any rare hunter pets disappearing in cata? Should i tame echeyakee now? Goodness knows i've held the quest for long enough.
Julianne Oct 11th 2010 1:21PM
Petopia has a list up, looks like every skin will still be available in some way or another. I can personally confirm that echeyakee is still in the beta
Cromlech Oct 11th 2010 1:26PM
And now, the quest relating to Echeyakee indicates that you can kill OR subdue him - which I assume means hunters can tame him to get the credit. Not sure, I've not played a hunter in the Barrens in beta...

Welcome to arf -- I get it!!1
KJP Oct 11th 2010 2:08PM
Well can you explain it to me? All I can think of is that MST3K line from the Lassie movie: "I'm gonna teach you the meaning of arf!"
(cutaia) Oct 11th 2010 2:43PM
This was all I got from it...

That reminds me of the awesome line from StH #124:
"This is Mobius, not Urf!"
Matt Oct 11th 2010 5:53PM
(cutaia)'s got it.

I can't access Youtube at work, but I'm guessing it's a play on 'Welcome to Earth'. No?
Terrant Oct 11th 2010 1:07PM
I can see a whole bunch of players playing female worgen and thinking, "This better not awaken anything in me." (TM Community)
Dreyja Oct 11th 2010 2:37PM
TM community? Confuzzled. I hate it when I miss a pop reference.
Terrant Oct 11th 2010 2:48PM
Dreyja, that's just my way of saying I'm blatantly copying a line from the TV show, Community. It would be clearer if I could make the TM in superscript!
Dreyja Oct 11th 2010 2:51PM
LOL, gotcha. I should have caught that. :)

This will definitely get downvoted, but Community is one of those shows that will win awards but no one will watch it because it's not funny, not entertaining, and frankly is bad. It's reminiscent of Arrested Development; clever, sure, but not funny.
ben Oct 11th 2010 3:26PM
@Pyromelter:
YOU TAKE THAT BACK!
Seriously though, I highly enjoyed Arrested Development, and Community is one of my favorite shows this season. Realize that you have stated your opinion, not a fact. The fact that I watch it because I find it funny, entertaining, and good completely disproves your point. It's fine that you don't like it, but don't go around stating that opinion as if everyone shares it, making it a fact.

Downrated? Maybe. Jumped in a dark alley? Definitely.
Watch yo' back, Pyromelter.

Here's how the logic follows:
I don't find it funny.
Therefore, no one will find it funny.
Wait, that doesn't logically follow. We'll give Pyro the benefit of the doubt and assume he or she isn't completely illogical, and instead assume there is an unstated premise here that makes the conclusion logically follow.
I don't find it funny.
(I am the center of the universe, and thus can divine public opinion via introspection.)
Therefore, no one will find it funny.
There we go. Fix'd. :)
Pyromelter Oct 11th 2010 7:50PM
The numbers don't lie. I don't find it funny, and it seems that America doesn't find Community funny either.

Destroyed by Big Bang Theory, beaten handily by Bones, and for good measure, it had almost the same viewership as a freaking re-run of Grey's Anatomy.
Downranking me won't bring back the many hours of not-funny that Arrested Development was, and it won't save Community from getting canceled.
Remember kids: Just because you're clever, doesn't mean you are funny.
NighttimeApparition Oct 12th 2010 12:18AM
I don't like Community. I didn't much like Arrested Development. (I sooo tried to.)
That being said @Pyromelter
Firefly was cancelled, and it's considered a cult-hit, geek classic. This is the nature of opinions. Just because other people are watching other things doesn't mean it's not funny, it means they like OTHER THINGS MORE.
I don't care if it's funny, I think it's funny that you think you can make your opinion fact. Then use 'data' to support it, which doesn't really support it. The only claim you make that could be seen as a logical outcome of those statistics is that it might get canceled.
My opinion is that you are wrongheaded in your insistence that 'clever, not funny' is 'the way it is'. Several people seem to disagree with you... But that doesn't make our opinions true or a fact.
My problem isn't that I don't like your opinion, I just want you to see that it IS an opinion.
'Remember kids, just because you have an opinion and use 'statistics' doesn't mean you have supported your point or proven your argument. '
Seriously though, saying you are right doesn't make it so. I don't need to get out the definition of opinion do I?
