Breakfast Topic: The first thing you do in patch 4.0.1

Here are a few of our ideas:
- Learn your glyphs. With glyphs becoming more expensive to make and a one-time learned thing, hopefully, you've already stockpiled all available glyphs for your class so that you can pull them out of your bank and learn them first thing. If you didn't, you may need to wait a few weeks for the prices to stabilize, because the gougers are going to be out in full force today (including those who already started yesterday, of course).
- Reinvest your talent points. With the new 31-point trees and masteries, everyone's talents have been reset. Hopefully, you've been following our class columns the past few weeks, since most of them have had a lot of good advice.
- Practice your rotations. Our skills have been switched up pretty significantly with this latest patch. It might be a decent idea to grab a practice dummy and make sure you still have the DPS mojo. Remember though, depending on your class, a practice dummy is rarely a real substitute for a real battle.
- Work on those last few achievements. With patch 4.0.3 approaching ever closer, now's a good time to finish up any achievements associated with Zul'Gurub, not to mention those Loremaster and Explorer titles. You never know when they could change.
- Turn on "load out-of-date addons" and/or update your addons. With a new patch comes the need for new addon updates. Patch 4.0.1 isn't breaking addons as bad as Patch 3.0.1 did, but you'll still want to check and see which addons still work and which don't.

There's something wrong with my eyes.
I can't see coming into work today.
Alxariam Oct 12th 2010 8:49AM
Anal Glaucoma - Can't see your ass going to work today.

If you have kids: Sick kid.
If you don't: Migraine.

I have friends who swear by "severe menstrual cramps". Personally I've never had much success with that excuse. But as my wife keenly pointed out that may be due to the fact I'm a guy.

I just hope you're asking for excuses for Wednesday because Nick is right. I would not expect being able to play today. Maybe they'll (Blizzard) surprise me and the patch will go smoothly and we'll all be back at it this afternoon...but past experience says otherwise. I don't expect the servers to get back online until around 8 PM Eastern.

Tell them a witch turned you into a newt.
Then you have the obvious answer when you return the next day.

Any danish people could always try to find an excuse form "Chris og chokoladefabrikken" - all Chris' excuses are very good xD
One of my favorites is "Someone took my lungs, boss :( "

the end of the world is nigh :D

Call in with a vision problem. Tell them you just can't see coming into work today.

Heh. They'll allegedly be finished with the patching around noon, which is the same time I have to be to work today. And tomorrow I have to be to work at 6:00AM, which means I'll get home tonight and maybe have an hour or so to look things over before I'll need to get to bed. So I'm looking at Wednesday afternoon before I can really look at the patch.
I don't think anybody would believe me if I called in sick. I've got perfect attendance for the entire four and a half years I've been working for my current employer — I just don't get sick, beyond the occasional cold. And there's also the fact that my job is seasonal (I work in the convention business as a banquet chef), so I kind of *have* to work when there's work available. Which, of course, is why I wouldn't mind at all if Blizzard would drop these big patches in, say, July/August or January/February when I'm spending most of my time sitting on my butt in front of my computer because people just don't book conventions for those months. No, instead Blizz always releases these things right in the middle of peak convention season...

I like to use the good old "I'm dead and can't come to work today" excuse.
Works every time since I'm my own boss, lol.
Boydboyd Oct 12th 2010 8:03AM
I'll be doing most of the things you've mentioned above. However, I'll spend a significant amount of time stressing while my addons are updated.
I can play with the stock UI, but I don't have to like it!
Rufio Oct 12th 2010 8:09AM
Amen to that brother.
vespers Oct 12th 2010 8:30AM
This.. except I can't play with the default UI at all, I haven't played without a minimum of action bar and unit frame mods since level 50. I've already hunted down and installed 4.0 versions of my important addons.
Of course, I'm sure I missed a whole bunch (and some haven't updated yet, the bastards) and upon logging in will die a little at the horrible mess my sweet, sweet UI has become.

Here is the status of my main addons on PTR:
Bagnon - worked
Bartender - worked
EventHorizon - new version
XPerl - new version
TidyPlates + ThreatPlates - worked
Quartz - worked
Healbot - new version available, old version did not work
AdvancedTradeSkillWindow - not working
Auctioneer - not working, but will apparently be updated
I didn't really get to test any others. Some class-specific addons like RageBar and EnergyWatch don't work properly (or just can't be moved, which is the whole point), others like NugComboBar do work properly.
Desmentia Oct 12th 2010 10:40AM
Thought I'd add one:
RankWatch - Not working, no new version planned.
coffeeman51 Oct 12th 2010 11:02AM
Titan Panel worked on the PTR
Aris Oct 12th 2010 11:29AM
Rankwatch shouldn't work. There are no longer ranks for spells so there's nothing to watch.

I'm going to enjoy having 22 bag slots NOT FILLED WITH G'DAMN SOUL SHARDS
*ahem*

But seriously, I'll respec, pass out from my UI being massacred by the new patch, come to, fix my UI and probably PvP a lot.
