Call your boss and tell him you've got a very personal problem. Like hemorrhoids or crabs or something.
Nobody will question you.. They won't ask for a doctor's note...

Also, a stomach bug is a good one, because they don't last more than a day and if you mention you were vomiting a lot, no one will want to know anything more. Just say you ate something that didn't agree with you and woke up early and had to run for the toilet. ^_^

To quote a Jeff Foxworthy skit: Explosive diarrhea.
"No, that's okay Jefferson, we'll pay you to stay home with that. Thanks."

Why call in sick TODAY? It's not worth it. Call in sick tomorrow - after the issues are minimized.

I have friends who swear by "severe menstrual cramps". Personally I've never had much success with that excuse. But as my wife keenly pointed out that may be due to the fact I'm a guy.

I just hope you're asking for excuses for Wednesday because Nick is right. I would not expect being able to play today. Maybe they'll (Blizzard) surprise me and the patch will go smoothly and we'll all be back at it this afternoon...but past experience says otherwise. I don't expect the servers to get back online until around 8 PM Eastern.

Tell them a witch turned you into a newt.
Then you have the obvious answer when you return the next day.

Heh. They'll allegedly be finished with the patching around noon, which is the same time I have to be to work today. And tomorrow I have to be to work at 6:00AM, which means I'll get home tonight and maybe have an hour or so to look things over before I'll need to get to bed. So I'm looking at Wednesday afternoon before I can really look at the patch.
I don't think anybody would believe me if I called in sick. I've got perfect attendance for the entire four and a half years I've been working for my current employer — I just don't get sick, beyond the occasional cold. And there's also the fact that my job is seasonal (I work in the convention business as a banquet chef), so I kind of *have* to work when there's work available. Which, of course, is why I wouldn't mind at all if Blizzard would drop these big patches in, say, July/August or January/February when I'm spending most of my time sitting on my butt in front of my computer because people just don't book conventions for those months. No, instead Blizz always releases these things right in the middle of peak convention season...
