Unforseen my ass!
Barinthos Oct 12th 2010 1:40PM
Really. I don't understand why Blizz doesn't just say
"It'll be up when it's ready"
Putting a time frame on it's completion only sets people up for disappointment and frustration.
Granted, a major patch has never been implemented on time and working on patch day.

I got 7:1 odds against the servers being up and playable before 6pm tonight. 2:1 against it being playable by noon tomorrow.
Zenotho Oct 12th 2010 1:50PM
The handicappers at Harrah's in Las Vegas have the over/under for when the realms will be up as 10:00pm PDT. I'm taking the over.

@ Barinthos "It'll be up when it's ready"
Thats what HE said!
Paulio Oct 12th 2010 1:57PM
I'd LOL at "unforeseen" except it's not really funny but rather a bit sad that Blizzard keeps repeating the same old line. After all, one definition of insanity is repeatedly doing the same thing but expecting different results. "It'll be up when it's ready" would indeed fix this.
Klausse Oct 12th 2010 1:58PM
It'll be even funnier when they patch the EU servers tomorrow and have an extended downtime due to "unforeseen complications."
Seamus Oct 12th 2010 2:00PM
Agreed, I never understand why they low-ball the estimate for these major patches. Its much better to over-estimate and go online early.
Personally, I'd start with a 20 hour estimate.

As someone who works in maintenance it always amazes me that Blizzard hasn't learnt that you always always ALWAYS overestimate your completion time by a large margin.
It serves two purposes, it gives you a buffer time if something doesn't go as planned.
But the most important one is when you complete the job in less time than you said you would people are happy.
If Blizzard would just say "Realms will be up at 4 pm PST" and then bring them up at 11 am or 12:30 pm people would be cheering them not bitching because they went past 11.
benbettis Oct 12th 2010 2:08PM
Blizz should just have their maintenance message say:
Soon. (tm)
Bronwyn Oct 12th 2010 2:12PM
Sometimes I wonder if it's just to the point where someone who isn't a techy guy is putting pressure on them to give them the best scenario, and the techy guys just comply because they know they won't get into trouble if they go over the timeframe.
lividmonkey Oct 12th 2010 2:20PM
They should just say, "Meh, you're probably not going to play today, especially if you're on the east coast. Go visit the park or something."
Angrycelt Oct 12th 2010 4:23PM
I could've detected that. After all, I'm pretty good at that.
Spacehyena Oct 12th 2010 4:48PM
It's up to 4pmPST now. :) Time to hit the bar for a few!
vinniedcleaner Oct 12th 2010 4:58PM
They use the Walmart Lube shop (TLE) way of estimating times.
PINGAS Oct 12th 2010 5:49PM
I saw this coming a mile away.
Who wants to bet it'll be pushed back another 2 hours?
Sadistic4 Oct 12th 2010 5:28PM
whats worse than "maintenance extended by one hour"? maintenance extended by TWO hours! Not one hour extension, but TWO hours extension!
paul Oct 12th 2010 6:01PM
Thank you NA servers for ironing out the installation problems in time for the EU patch tomorrow.
Toddo Oct 12th 2010 7:23PM
I'm not worried, Blizzard will refund us the missing game time... right?
Eregos ftw! Oct 12th 2010 6:48PM
Hey WoW.com... it's up to 5:00 now. New post up :)
