I really like how you can easily slip into the character's voices. From the trolls lines, you pretty much get a lot of info about his personality.
...Sorry, sorry. Creative writing classes. Went into 'positive feedback' mode. >.>

I'm really liking the interplay with these two characters so far. There's an emerging sense of why they might be friends and how they are different from each other.

What is with the weird checkered shading in these? I would rather have a clean line drawing then all this crazy shading mucking up the place.

Nah, I've read comics and graphic novels. I'm aware the the checkerboard is supposed to indicate shaded areas, bu,t even so, the execution is sloppy and ultimately detracts from the piece. If the same thing was done in clean lines it would look way better.
