Status update on current patch 4.0.1 issues

Master RidingThere has been some confusion regarding the purchase of this skill that we'd like to clear up.
If you had a 310% flying mount learned before 4.0.1 went in you should have automatically been granted this skill. Otherwise, if you wish to fly at 310% speed you'll need to learn Master Riding on top of Artisan Riding.
You have not lost your original flight training, both Artisan and Master Riding cost 5000 gold.
All mounts that previously allowed you to fly at 310% have been converted to standard flying mounts, it is your skill that determines your flight speed.
Note: There is currently not an associated achievement with the Master Riding skill.
Missing EnchantmentsThough we do not currently have any updates regarding this matter we are aware of the reported missing enchantments.
We will provide what updates we can when they become available.

Insect SwarmThere is currently an issue with some Druids where your spellbook directs you to visit a trainer to learn the spell. Unfortunately once you get there the trainer indicates that you already know it.
No update is available at this time.

Guild Issues with AuthenticatorThis feature seems to be a little confusing so we wanted to sure everyone was fully aware of the implementation.
In order to enable the Authenticator option for a particular rank, that rank must be empty.
Additionally, in order to promote or invite a member to a rank that requires an Authenticator that member must had the Authenticator attached to their account for 72 hours.
Due to the new implementation of this feature that timer starts today. You should be able to promote to an Authenticator enabled rank by Friday at the earliest. We apologize for what confusion this may have caused.

Warlock Pets RenamedWe are aware that most Warlock pets received rename after implementation of the patch. We are currently inquiring and seeking further clarification as to if this is an intended change or a not.
We will provide what information we can as soon as it becomes available.

Missing CharactersWe are aware of an issue where some characters are not showing up on the Character Selection screen.
First and foremost know that these characters are not gone, they are simply not being displayed for you. This matter should be addressed with the off-peak restarts scheduled for this morning.

Item Durability StandardizationThere has been some confusion over a change implemented with 4.0.1. In this patch, items that were not previously at 100/100 durability were all set to that maximum. In many cases this meant that if the item previously had, for example, a 60/60 durability it would now be at 60/100.
You did not actually lose durability in these cases, you gained it. In order to reach the new limit of 100/100 you will need to repair your gear but you should not have otherwise lost durability.
The Game Master department will be unable to provide repair cost or other compensation for this change.

Removed from BGWe have received reports in which players are being automatically removed from battlegrounds resulting in a deserter buff.
We are currently looking into this issue and will provide additional information as it becomes available to us.

I doubt its intended as some of the demons kept their names and others did not. It's also completely random which demon kept their name. My imp for instance has his name intact but the rest of my demons all have new ones. Other people report none of their demons kept their name. Hopefully they can fix it, I want my felpuppy back. :(

@Aly.
There's a finite number of demon names available to Warlocks. My guess is that all of your demons were randomly assigned new names but it just so happened that your Imp's randomly assigned new name was the same as its old name.

Warlock friend of mine was very unhappy with the pet name changes until he summoned his Succubus.
It's new name is Jhorny.
Everyone was cracking up in vent. :D

my girlfriend's Voidwalker Helmon (or Helmie as we called him lovingly), is now called something I can't even pronounce. Very disappointed and sad.. u really start to care for your demons and this really sucks.

I'm just amused at the wording. Given that this person is speaking for Blizzard and that Blizzard made this change, it's akin to saying, "I think I did something last night. I'm not sure if I did it on purpose. Let me go ask myself."
Yeah, I'm weird like that. Still, very amusing.

So if I had a 310% mount and didn't get the skill Master Riding, do need to contact somebody or is this an issue that's going to be addressed?
Neodarkmatter Oct 13th 2010 1:01PM
Mount up on a flying mount and the buff for your mount should say 310% no matter what flying mount you are using.
Drakkenfyre Oct 13th 2010 1:03PM
Not what he's asking.
They say some people who had a 310% mount didn't get it. He apparantly didn't, and is asking about it.

What about the bug that prevents you from talking in Guild Chat ("You are not in a guild"), or the really annoying bug where clicking on a cog (like picking up a lance in ToC) boots you from the game. Jeez, this whole thing screams rush job.
Gregg Reece Oct 13th 2010 1:01PM
You weren't here for the same patch pre-Wrath or pre-BC, were you?
RogueJedi86 Oct 13th 2010 12:58PM
So Blizz implemented a patch that basically forces everyone to spend money to repair their stuff to the new full? It's almost like you had gold taken away just for logging in.
Drakkenfyre Oct 13th 2010 1:00PM
I have seen a few people post on the message boards that their repair costs have gone insane. With the increase in durability, the cost to repair goes up, but they were talking actual increase in repair cost.
One person lost 10% durability, and had to pay 51g to repair.
Dave Oct 13th 2010 1:07PM
You have to think of it differently. If you took your car to the shop and they put in a new gas tank that held 10 more gallons of gas, would you expect them to fill the new tank too? You didn't lose any money if they just put your old gas in the new tank.
Durability is a resource you need to replenish. Now everyone has durability tanks that are similarly sized. If you could repair your armor to 50/100 instead of 100/100 you would be at the same point as pre-patch, but you'd still spend (with some caveats) the same amount of money either way in the long run.
Dok Oct 13th 2010 1:38PM
The problem with thinking of it as a number of gallons is a player death doesn't remove a fixed amount of durability points, but a percent. 60/100 leaves you at 60% ie 6 deaths away from broken gear vs 10. So they charge you per point to refill and subtract in percent (for the most part).
Zenotho Oct 13th 2010 1:47PM
Yes, we logged in to find out that we had to pay more gold. For plate wearers this could be a lot of money (my priest owed 81g). However, we also logged in to find gold strangely mailed to us from all the old Emblems and Badges we had earned over the years. It's a wash for some people, and some other people (myself included) had a nice little profit. Now, about those nameplates...

I haven't logged into live yet so I can't see for myself but basically 60/100 means that you need to pay for a 40% repair to repair this to how it was before.
Now the REAL QUESTION is: is the repair cost from 0 to 60 the same now you're filling from 0 to 100 (or has it gone up by 40%)... By the sounds of it, it has gone up by 40%.
If you long at it from a "time in combat" before a repair is needed the item runs for 40% longer, but if you look at it from a "number of deaths" before a repair is needed it's now 40% lower than it was yesterday.
So basically yes this change IS costing you gold (that if you don't sppend you currently have less durability than you had yesterday).
Drakkenfyre Oct 13th 2010 1:58PM
Zenotho. That badge money came once. Your repair bills will be there for as long as you play that character.
Malenx Oct 13th 2010 1:59PM
@ Zenotho
I believe all the durability changes were focused around the plate classes, now everyone else is on the same page they they always suffered before, plate should be relatively unchanged.
Zenotho Oct 13th 2010 2:20PM
@Drakkenfyre: I disagree. Your repair to bring your armor back up to 100% was a one-time thing, and now you get to sit back and enjoy your improved armor for as long as you play the game. If you are sticking by your "durability is a percent" argument, than there is little difference between 60/60 and 100/100. You do not need to continually repair anything extra, as you will never log back in to have your gear *suddenly* at 60% again. Think of it as Blizzard, without you doing anything, vastly improved your gear for free, and then on top of it you got a nice windfall to help pay the initial durability increase.
If you win a nice brand new car, don't complain about the extra cost of insurance.
Dok Oct 13th 2010 2:28PM
@Zenotho
This is NOT a buff but a nerf to non-plate wearing classes to bring them to parity with plate. I do not disagree with the reason for doing it but with the execution. Please recognize 60/100 is a fraction. What makes this relevant is the penalty for death is a percent. I wish my healing gear had 10/10 durability. Only lose a point when you die and its way cheaper to repair. It would last all night if we were raiding.
There is no good reason to not put the points on the gear with the "upgrade".
