MrCamungi originally created this video for the BlizzCon 2010 machinima contest but apparently missed the entry deadline. As a result, he's publishing it a little bit early. The video tells the tale of a quest series in Cataclysm by the same name: The Day Deathwing Came. MrCamungi gave these quests the machinima treatment while still remaining true to the original quest text.
I think this machinima is a lot of fun and the voice actors did a good job of characterizing the dwarf, orc and gnome. It's pretty definite at this point that The Day Deathwing Came will turn out to be one of the most iconic and memorable quests in Cataclysm. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at machinima@wow.com.
My lady and I have been using "I'm gonna punch that dragon in the face!" as our battlecry whenever challenges arise on the ol' homestead or at work. Amazing what it does for one's sense of vigor and determination in the face of draconic onslaught.
It is officially one of my favorite pieces of movie dialogue. Right up there with:
Victor Ray: [hands Clark a fake passport] Is that a piece of work or what? Clark Kellogg: What is this? "Rodolfo Lasparri"? Victor Ray: Clark, I gotta tell you. The odds are pretty good we're all gonna be on a plane to Palermo, Sicily tonight, at midnight, *if* we're still walking. Clark Kellogg: I don't want to go to Palermo, Sicily! Victor Ray: Have you ever been there? Clark Kellogg: No, of course not! Victor Ray: Then you really can't make an informed judgment, can you, Rodolfo?
Does anyone else see the 800 poung gorilla in the room? I've been waiting all morning for a column on "reactions to patch 4.0.1" because holy crap was trade nuts last night.
The first column of the day should've been a breakfast topic on reactions to the patch. I can only guess McCurley is hibernating right now from all the stuff he posted yesterday. Where's the rest of the staff on this one?
Well, I'm glad you're here to tell them how they're supposed to run their site. I'm sure now that you've posted this they're all scrambling to fix their mistake. What were they thinking? Good thing you were here.
Me thinks that if the trade channel mouth breathers hadnt read this site in the last 2 months to get a constant stream of updates then whats going to make them come here the day the patch is released?
This was a REALLY well done machinima. I'm always bothered by Americans trying to do Scottish accents, so I always cringe when people do Dwarf voices, but this one wasn't too bad. All in all though, great voice work, great animations, and great cinematography. I'd give it a 10/10, personally.
The dwarf in this isn't so much Scottish as just 'northen', like Billy Connolly does Coronation Street. 'I'm gunna punch our Deathwing in 't face' I lol'd heartily never the less.
The editing for this video is above par, as far as first-time projects go - the voice cast I think suffered from lack of any kind of discernable internal rehearsal or effective scripting. Remember - a voice actor's job is to record the lines, then hopefully, either be directed on how to refine them and improve. I'm guessing on a time-budget like this probably was, first takes were likely taken.
So for all that in account, I give it a 9/10 - for outstanding potential of a first-time artist, and at least above-average voice cast (because, honestly, how often do you hear completely lacking voices? They are out there...oh yes they are)

Like the quest series itself, this is awesome. I giggled throughout!
In short...WIN!

I actually prefer the Yogscast version (Part 1 ends around the 3min mark). It's funnier and better voices.
