Updated: All realms now online

After announcing rolling restarts on all U.S. and Oceanic realms last night, Blizzard has confirmed that all U.S. realms are currently offline due to an unforeseen technical issue. We will have more information when those issues are resolved.

They're coming back online now.
Zanaji Oct 14th 2010 9:47AM
Yep, they're up.
Ulf Oct 14th 2010 9:45AM
Glad they are getting this testing done before Cataclysm!
Nic Lake Oct 14th 2010 9:45AM
So uh... Chromaggus is just fine...
Zanaji Oct 14th 2010 9:45AM
Le sigh....but not unexpected

WTB edit button, the realms say they are up - but when you try to log into a character it just stays at the loading screen.

Hopefully this unforseen technical issue will involve nerfing caster dps, buffing melee dps, and seriously buffing tank tps.
In my 2 and a half years tanking, I've NEVER had so many issues. I've literally had to make a macro that says "Due to 4.0.1 changes, please give me 4-5 GCDs to establish threat before starting DPS."
It's an issue on my warrior, my DK, and my paladin; it's making me wonder if I should go back to dps for the time being.

You mean like the "Please wait for 3 sunders before attacking" macros that have been around since vanilla?
Welcome to actually having to try in an instance.
Lucrith Oct 14th 2010 9:55AM
I found aggro extremely diff too on my geared tanks. "welcome to actually having to try in an instance" More like welcome to tanking becoming more annoying than fun. I dont want to have to tell the dps to wait for x seconds before they can do anything on EVERY trash pull.
Daynthebold Oct 14th 2010 10:05AM
I ran multiple heroics on my DK tank last night. Nobody had to wait for me. It's a matter of learning your new priority and cooldown use. That said, aggro wasn't as stupidly easy as it was when DW Frost was still a tank build.

If you'd read my post, you'd have noticed I said 2 and 1/2 years, which is right around when Wrath came out, so how would I possibly know about Vanilla content?
Pardon me if it's a little disconcerting when I spam my snap aggro abilities tab-targeting and still can't hold threat on content I outgear by three raiding tiers. It's not a matter of having to try or not; it's a matter of tanking suddenly going from "fun, occasionally challenging" to "not fun, really stressful" with pretty much no warning.
Unless there's a significant change, I can see a lot of tanks switching to DPS.
"Trying" in an instance should be a matter of using the right strategy for the right situation, not a matter of mashing keys as fast as you can to keep up with the insane dps some people are suddenly pulling (lock, boomkins, etc.).

I ran with a paladin last night who had serious issues keeping mobs of me (healer). I did hTOC with my DK and had zero problems. Which is ancedotal and does not trivialize the issues you experienced. We do have alot to learn, we have a ton of new buttons now (DK blood tanks). I think it will be a while until people get really good, but fortunately with my gear (ilvl 245ish), its good enough. Its not face smashing easy any more though, i have mixed feelings on that.

Yeah, I found the DK to have the fewest amount of issues. The warrior is seriously gimped. I think the DK's problem mostly came from the 12k dps lock I was running with. But still, you'd think they'd have made healing and tanking easier not harder if they want to entice more people to play those roles.
Meatwadz Oct 14th 2010 11:08AM
I think it is less of a tanking issue and more of an arcane mages doing 20dps on heroic bosses issue.
coaler2 Oct 14th 2010 11:47AM
This is a personal issue. I just ran VOA 10 as a paladin tank in 232/200 gear. We had a lock doing 14k dps and he could not pull it off me for the entire fight...so I'm not sure what ou're doing but you may need to read up on the new abilities/procs etc. Also my pally bretheren...always remember righteous fury.

The best course of action for tanks at this point is to “Go on strike” if enough of us organized and stopped tanking, and took to the official forums to rationally explain to Blizzard why we are upset it will make a difference. But we need to do it in huge numbers, not just a couple hundred we need thousands.
The point here isn’t that Blizzard changed something, the point is that they made it not fun to tank anymore. The fun in tanking was running in grabbing a group of mobs and being able to keep all of their attention without having to be a twitch gamer like some mongoose on a caffeine high.
Before this change you could effectively tank without needing to key bind, and tabbing never was needed, it’s ludicrous and counter evolutionary. Things should get more streamlined never more complex.
So again I call for a full on tank strike starting now and lasting until they change this horrible direction they are headed in for tanks.
To Blizzard: Give tanks back our AOE threat, so we can do our jobs. Without having to be a caffeine addicted mongoose with the reflexes of living lightning.

All they really need to do is nerf the amount of threat that aoe casters are doing. Honestly, I'm doing fantastic single target TPS, but I can't hold a box of kittens if there's more than three of them. I'm not sure how much of it is just that the dps isn't used to having to wait for a few seconds before blowing CDs on trash and hitting AoE or how much of it is just that aoe tanking has been nerfed to the ground, but it's definitely not fun when at least one person dies in ICC10 every pull because I simply can't hold aggro on more than a few mobs at a time. And before you say, LOL L2P NOOB as Daynthebold did, I know my rotation, I know my glyphs, I know how to play my class. It's not that hard seeing as there's only maybe 8 different abilities for paladins. It's just that my consecration and my hammer of the righteous do almost no threat for me, and this is the problem. It makes me run around like a chicken with my head cut off, judging stray mobs, hitting both my taunts on cooldown every cooldown. There's something that feels awfully wrong with that to be honest.

Please bring them up quick, Blizzard. Mah wife will not be a happy Mage when I get home if she's been without her beloved all day.
Please. . . I dun like the wrath of the angry Mage. :(
Work fast! For the husbands' sake!
Mr. Tastix Oct 14th 2010 11:33AM
She's gonna -hate- it when they get nerfed.
ducss750 Oct 14th 2010 9:46AM
I'm on. Odd
